Chrono Stream / Plot Add-Ons
« on: December 10, 2005, 04:44:25 pm »
We could do flashbacks as Alex regains his memories... taht could add depth to his character.  Maybe we could even give the player choices as to how good or evil Alex really is.  I could store that variable of good and evil and depending on what it is will determine one of the many many many endings... yeah!
I'm not so sure Crono felt alone while fighting Lavos.  Scared probably, but he did have people with him (unless you're New Game +'ing).  I dunno.  I suppose we could do something like in FF6 where Shadow has dream sequences.  We could have Crono have them randomly.
This could also totally tie in to the idea of Chrono Stream.  As we're writing history (and in some cases - with Alex - rewriting events), we're also in a stream of consciousness and memories... it could work?
Don't know, let's just see how this works out and we can change it if need be.
Crono's intro is finished (for now).  I'll update pics later (I have to work now).

There's a few things with this...
Crono is sent by Guardia in the first place.  He eventually comes upon Alex and saves him.  I suppose afterwards Alex could kill Guardia... we'll see how it works in as the plot develops.

I like the idea of fighting a "special battle" at the end of the game.  I don't know if you should really fight Frog / Glenn and Cyrus or Serge or anyone like that though.  It doesn't make as much sense.  Glenn and especially Cyrus are long since dead, and Serge... well in 1005 AD I think he's been either just created or born or whatever.

There will be a new game+ and in it you'll get to start from other characters perspectives.  I'm thinking you can have a Vera game and the girl that you rescue, etc.  You can also start another Alex / Crono game of course.  I think at the present moment though, you can only choose up to 4 answers in a multiple choice scenario... but I'm sure I can fix that easily enough, in fact I know I can

The demon lord... is this going to be Alex after all, or is it someone or something completely different?  If Alex does go mad.. I dunno, we'll see.

I think Crono dying (again) will or should be expected.  But I think it should be like an end of game scenario if that does happen.  You have to remember, there's going to be multiple endings for multiple characters... hence many dimensions... hence trying to delve into a very deep, complex,  and complete story... I know how to do it, it'll just take time to develop plot and such.

I'm also not sure why Magus / Janus and Schala / Kid would be at Crono's grave.  I can definitely see Kid as Kid there, with Lucca.  Lucca saying something like, accept the future or something.  Quote the letter she sent to Kid in Chrono Cross.  That would make more sense.

Not bad over all though.  It should be interesting to see the many different perspectives and / or directions this story can take us.

You're right, I seem to remember that too.  I can't remember if Dalton took him too or if he ended up running out to get to Schala though.

Well since I gave the playable part (Crono's party) ultimate equipment to start with... it can be estimated to be about 15 minutes or so so far.  But fear not, because next week, after finals are over, I'm clear and free to do a massive amount of programming.  And you can bet that there'll be a huge update and definitely a demo by x-mas.

My only thing is where I can upload it to for mass downloads and such.  Check your yahoo to see how much your inbox can handle.  I know my hotmail was something like 2 mb or so, and I think a yahoo one that my girlfriend has has about the same.

like crickets and such, you know, things that you may hear when there's no music or man-made noises.

edit: Does Yahoo have a limit on the siz of a file you can send?

Precisely that.  Also menu and magic sounds.  What else... maybe water and silence sounds too.  Give it an air of haunting if that makes any sense.  Just any little sounds from a game you can think of will be helpful.

Not too too long, but if you have prior programming experience, it helps a lot.  If you want, I can continue programming since I know what to do, and you can supply with whatever we come up with plot wise / music wise / sound effect wise.  I have almost an entire month of free time coming up, so I'll be able to do some major work on this project.

What I really need...
1) sound effects - any and all will work well.  Especially if you can either rip it from the game or create it yourself.  Menu sounds, battle sounds, magic sounds, etc are all very much needed (using defaults on much of them currently).

2) Music - I've got most of the original midi's to use so far.  All remixes are welcomed.  As of now, for Alex's story intro, I'm using a Time's Scar remix I found on OCR.  It's a piano type piece, and it really can delve into your emotions.

3) Sprites - While thanks to COF, I have many many sprites, I still am going to need some.  For instance, I need the slave (can't remember the name we have currently), Vera, the woman we save (did we ever get a name for her), and one or two others we can come up with plot-wise.  I made Alex's character set and battle character set, and let me tell you, while it's not A+ work, it's still good for now.

4) We've got enough info for the beginning demo of the game.  However, we still need to work on plot's and subquests and the like.  Any and all ideas are welcomed as far as I'm concerned.

5) A place to upload this / send it to you all so you can check the progress, as by next week, there will be a very pretty, functional game demo to play.

I'll upload more screens as to the beginning of Crono's story later.  But it pretty much starts off at Guardia Castle, with the king talking about uncertainty among the soldiers and how Porre hasn't talked to Guardia much lately.  Crono goes off on a quest and Marle joins him as she overheard and insisted to go too.  And off they go to Porre to check to see what's going on.

Yet to put in (let me know what you think):
- There's 3 training ground type places in Porre.  North, West, and East.  I figure info can be acquired there as to a mission going on in the West.
- They go and find a forest (Forbidden Forest / Cursed Woods / whatever).
- Enter the forest quest.
- Eventually they come to a cave... and in the cave they go around and eventually go to find soldiers slaughtered and a near dead Alex.
- They fight a monster and Crono carries Alex to a Porre hospital.
- After I have a question mark.

A continuation of Alex's story (which I did put in last night) is that he wawkes up in the hospital and has slight memory loss (as the receptionist will let on).  Her name is Clara (for now) and there may have been something going on between those two.  We'll see what people think.  Anyways, then Alex is able to leave.. after that, I have another question mark.

Anyways, let me know what you all think.

RPG 2K3 actually.
I kind of like Hiraj.  Or Mirage even could work.
In any case, Crono doesn't go to the cave - to start at least, but Alex does.  I'm thinking of having Crono and Marle start a quest in the forest, after gathering information in Porre, which actually leads to the cave. They find Alex there and take him to a hospital type deal to get him healed.  From there, I'm not sure.  Or that's what I programmed up to last night.

Edit: Check the section on join the stream team as I've just updated quite a bit on there.

And now... Chrono Stream Picture updates (yay).  This... is Alex's story...

Yes, you can choose which party to follow...

The beginning of Alex's Story...

They've been searching for the cave...

Alex is from Porre (for now at the very least).

They got their butts kicked... and only Alex remains...

He failed the mission... fade to black.

Honestly, you have to see / hear it.  It works very well.

Let me know what you think.

Agreed.  The more the merrier in here.  I have a few of the original sounds we're keeping, as of now, but new sounds and / or music would be greatly appreciated.

Again, Cooper, that looks amazing.  You have a lot of talent.
Kickace - started working with the choosing who to start with thing.  I think I've also may have figured out how to do a new game + mode in this when we're ready to implement it (sweet!).

I started working with both ideas.  Alex's story starts out by going to the cave.  Haven't named it yet, as you'll be able to see by the screens I updated in the game section thing.  It's coming along very nicely.  Crono's story, I just started the intro to that, and it'll be at Guardia Castle.  There's uncertainty in the ranks as Porre is growing ever more powerful.  Guardia is going to send Crono (and Marle wants in too) on a mission to the South to acquire knowledge and the like.  Or I may change that, I'm unsure.

The beginning is coming along VERY well I must say.  I truly hope that when we're ready to release a demo that everyone will enjoy it.

That reminds me, anyone know where I may be able to upload this when it's ready?  Let me know.  And now to update screens and get back to work.  Hope you all enjoy.

Haha, yeah.  You should post more in here.  Any ideas are welcomed.  I'm going to work on the game now.  Here's what's going to happen at the start... you choose between either Crono or Alex to start.  Each will have their own path to the cave...  Yeah, or that's what I'm going to do anyway.  Heh.  Good idea / bad idea?  Let me know.  Leave it ppls.

They all rhyme!  Just let me know on the final decision.  Seeing as I have tomorrow 100% completely off, I'm going to continue progree on the initials of the game... So far so good to be honest.  I created what I could of a sprite for Alexander, and while it looks like crap... at least it's there.  Yeah...
Also worked out a few bugs that I had.  So all in all, it's going well.
Question though, is there anyplace I can upload this demo to when it's ready to be seen / played?  And question 2, do you want to play it through before we release it to make comments and such?  Let me know.

Done.

So here's my big question...

How do we want the opening of CS to go?  I would genuinely like some place to start at.  Like in CT we start by going to a fair and such.  For CS, should we start like Crimson Echoes or CT, or CC, or who knows.

While I've got a bunch of the first quest (I think this should be the first) finished, I'm just thinking, what sets us off over there.  Ya know?

Let me know if you have any ideas.
