Looking forward to it! Please make sure to come back here and post regular updates!

Will definitely do that! As a sign that these are things that are meant to be, it appears that for some reason has made time travel possible for me to release this album one year in the past, even though it is supposed to be today--It is currently showing up listed as having been released in 2017.

So I'm glad I could make a little time travel possible in celebration of this epic event ;)

Hey guys!

Finally finished the first volume of what is to eventually be a complete set of jazz arrangements from the entire Chrono Trigger OST

The music has started showing up on Spotify, and should also be showing up on iTunes, CDBaby, etc in the next 24 hours or so.

Available for your listening pleasure are

1) A Premonition
2) Chrono Trigger / Radical Dreamers
3) Morning Glow
4) Peaceful Days
5) Green Memories
6) Guardia's Millennial Fair
7) Strange Occurances

Hope y'all can enjoy these pieces. It was tough getting them out since I am a relatively new parent, and was living in a very, very small space that was very inhibiting for making music, but thankfully I should have a lot more time and ability now that the kid is in preschool and I have a dedicated music room again!

Here's a sneak peak if you can't access the music on the mentioned platforms just quite yet!

So...just curious,  are people more "purists" with Chrono songs (stay as true to the original as possible), or more fond of new interpretations?

Was just messing with Morning Glow this morning, and it was originally a pretty short song. Not sure if I should try to keep it short and in the spirit of the game...

...or to extend it a bit...which I am sure I can do easily and without making it boring.

I did something similar with Gato's song a few years ago, but just curious. In any case, I know I'll be "extending" a few other songs (Strange Occurances, for example), so it's not like I won't be taking any creative steps, but it would be nice to know what direction people like me to lean in favor of sometimes.

Oh, no way I'm forgetting about this! Just have to find a way to make time for such a massive undertaking, take notes, and getting a mental picture of what I envision each song to sound like!

News Submissions / Chrono Cuts Music Project Update
« on: February 03, 2017, 02:20:03 am »
So with 2017 here, I've now just wrapped up my 3rd VGM cover album, and am going to now be fully dedicated to producing about 80 Chrono Trigger / Cross tunes!

While I've talked about a CD release previously, the cost for licensing such a cast number of tunes will be huge, so I've decided that for now I am going release the tracks via Spotify, Itunes, other digital platforms in bundles. I am going to try to work "chrono-logically" (get it?) so that the songs are done in the original order of the actual soundtrack release.

The first group of songs will likely be:
A Premonition
Chrono Trigger Theme
Morning Glow
Peaceful Days
1000 AD overworld theme (I can't remember the name now, sorry)
Guardia's Millenial Fair
Gato's Song
Mysterious Portal

I'll try to have a demo out as soon as I can, I'm working on Peaceful Days at the moment with a lovely jazz cello part, and it's going to be sweet!

In the meantime, I invite you to check out my other releases on Spotify, iTunes, or even my CD's (on Cdbaby or Amazon) , and especially check out the newest Soul Blazer tribute I did, as it is highly representative of the era of 16 bit gaming's finest!

Site Updates / Chrono Cuts music CD commencing!
« on: June 20, 2016, 05:02:57 pm »
As I wrap up my latest production (Jazzyvania : Symphonies of the Knight), I can now officially say that I am ready to move on to my next production.

I am officially dubbing this project "Chrono Cuts". At this moment, I am envisioning this to be the largest production that I have ever worked on, and as such, I am quite giddy.

In summary I expect this to be around 80 songs from Chrono Trigger and Chrono Cross. Although I had originally estimated a release year of 2017, this may end up being 2018 depending on the circumstances, as this is quite a huge undertaking given my preference to use real instruments as opposed to samples as much as I can.

Ideally speaking, I would like for this to be released on CD as well as the more modern digital formats. However, this does mean rather steep licensing costs, which I anticipate to be an excess of $10,000 USD if I am successful. Rather than clogging this message with the messy details of production, I will just leave this particular aspect contained to the following link, where you can look at a more comprehensive explanation if so desired :

http://www.jazzpaladin.com/?p=100

Alternatively, I may just release the music in small digital waves (Chrono Cuts volume 1, 2, etc...) as a means of funding the CD's gradually. I am undecided in the meantime as to whether or not the CD's are even a viable option for me, as much as I would like to be able to produce these. Don't get me wrong, I absolutely love the idea hiring an artist to produce a full-scale art book or some such thing, but the costs are indeed very inhibiting.

I am not a fan of Kickstarters for my own work (see notes in above link for a detailed explanation), but if you want an idea of what this project may sound like when completed, I highly recommend you check out my previous Chrono recordings on avenues such as iTunes, Spotify, Amazon, or even consider checking out the CD (First Journey : Video Game Grooves) that they derive from.

Jazz Paladin -- Schala's Theme

Here we go! Wish me luck!

Very, very nice!

Am planning on releasing something similar (stay tuned), and I've been thinking that I really need at LEAST 5 discs to do the series justice...

So many great ideas remain to be seen and heard with these compositions, thanks for sharing!

Another evil, impossible mashup has come to mind...

Underground Sewers with Moonlight Denetsu

I know it can't work, but it's in my head for some reason.

Underground sewers is definitely on the list, I was just thinking of some ideas for the tune the other day!

Thanks much for the suggestions, as well. For clarification, I was thinking more along the lines of mixing various Chrono songs together, akin to what Kodokami had in mind.

Mixing two songs together on the same track usually means you have to pay royalties for both songs. Not only this, sometimes the legalities and technicalities relating to mechanical licenses stipulate that you have to try to keep the song relatively close to the original composition. Mixing two Chrono songs together isn't too likely to cause any problems, but if I were to create and sell a mix of "Guardia Castle" and combine it with "I Like Big Butts", I'd probably have a wee bit of a legal issue on my hands.  8)

One thing that is just starting to dawn on me as I am starting to wrap up my most recent project and move on the Chrono production...

One CD simply is NOT going to be enough space...

Such a wonderful problem to have...

Come to think of it, I never did find that perfect hard rock remake of Magus' battle theme...

Along those lines, and if people ever wanted a guarantee that their absolute favoriteChrono song of all time gets its share in the spotlight...I think that perhaps at some point in time a contest of sorts may be in order.

Maybe it would be a good idea to give fans a direct choice for at least one piece. I can draw a "winner" or something, and thus ensure that this song is guaranteed representation on the project. Hmmm...

I did find a nice rock arrangement of that a while back, I think, but I can't for the life of me remember who did it. I could have sworn it was Daniel Tidwell...

But from my end of things, maybe I can make something interesting happen. Ever hear an electric harp with distortion on it? I think that may just end up being a first for Chrono Trigger arrangements!

I'd love to hear some of the lesser known or less popular songs.

Actually, I am a big proponent of making arrangments of lesser-done songs. That's part of the reason I went ahead with my take on Gato's song for my last production.

Drowned Valley is already up on top of my list for consideration, actually. It's always refreshing as a musician to not only do something in an odd time signature, but also something that goes between two distinct time signatures. I believe this one goes from 5/4 to 6/8. And a fusion of this would indeed be nice!

Thanks for the suggestion, let me know if you think of anything else!

Chrono News / Potential Chrono Trigger CD for 2017 : Ideas Wanted
« on: November 12, 2015, 05:32:45 pm »
Greetings!

I have been contemplating the idea of producing an exclusively Chrono Trigger/Chrono Cross CD for quite some time now, and was wondering what, if any, ideas the Chrono Trigger fanbase might be interested in. I seriously doubt that this question ever gets asked directly to the fans, so I thought this might be a unique opportunity to get to know if there is something out there that hasn't been done yet that people would like to see done with a project of such nature.

Songs perhaps? Styles? Fusions between songs? No idea is off of the table, so please let the ideas flow!

As an example of some previous Chrono Trigger work, I have a few songs on Spotify, and Youtube.

https://open.spotify.com/track/0MFjBdfZCVqTbLifYMh4Kp

Also, feel free to check out my Facebook page https://www.facebook.com/jazzpaladinproductions/?fref=ts

I will be sure to be adding updates to progress on Facebook as songs and ideas progress. I do also have a website, www.jazzpaladin.com that is still under a bit of construction, but I envision that being a good source of information in the future as well as this forum!

Ideally, this CD would be ready sometime in 2017. I would like to commit to an earlier release date, but I also currently have a Castlevania CD in the works for 2016, and will be hard at work for that for quite a while.

Lastly, (and if deemed inappropriate by the mods, please feel free to remove), just a small consideration for all is that these products do take quite a bit of financial backing to make possible. For example, the most recent video game music CD I made cost quite a bit of money to produce, especially in making sure that royalties are paid to the rightful composers. So while I hate mentioning this, please feel free to check out Jazz Paladin Productions on Facebook for more updates, or view the first CD on Spotify, I-tunes, Amazon.com, as I really, really hate Kick Starters, or the idea of taking money for a product that does not exist yet. Each bit of support for my music that is currently out there goes directly to support future products, so if you are so inclined, thank you very much!

Here's to the prospect of new music that will flow until the End of Time!

Interesting previews. It is hard to judge a book by the cover sometimes, but after a cursory evaluation of the samples, it seems to be like a few of the Final Fantasy Piano/Orchestral arrangements that I am familiar with.

At a glance, I just wonder how much I would enjoy it as well. To echo the sentiment noted above that the songs don't seem to reflect the originals as well as they might, I do agree, as far as I can tell so far. But it does evoke and bring to light an interesting question: What exactly should composers and arrangers shoot for when releasing new renditions of classic songs? Should it be strictly fan service? Or should everything about the song be up for total creative reinterpretation?

Having recently done some of my own Chrono Trigger and other arrangements, I can definitely identify with this particular struggle. My wife and I talked often about how "literal" of an interpretation I should have, versus "creative". Will fans cater more to creativity, or purity and faithfulness to the original?

I guess my solution was to try to do a little of both. I tried to make "Schala's Theme" or "Corridors of Time" relatively more on the "faithful" side of things, but left other songs on the CD (Terra's Theme, Gato's Song...) up for more open interpretation. perhaps just to be different, or at least different from many other renditions that may be floating out there.

For me, I am guessing that there are only one or two songs on the new officlal Chrono Trigger/Cross project that I would really like from what I can tell. I guess I'll only know for sure once I buy it, but for now...that's my (limited) two cents.
