That sucks.

Yes, blender tends to update in one of two ways, minor updates such as 2.42-2.42a or major which is a increase in 0.01 . . .so if your look on a tutorial for 2.43 and using 2.46. . . chances are its going to be A LOT different. Its frustrating, since half the tutorials wont work, but they're out there.

On my own, I screw up pretty badly. The default cube I accidentally made sink lopsided into the grid. I know how to maneuver it on the X, Y, and Z axises, but I have yet to rotate/zoom in/out of it

Give it some time and patience and you'll get it. . . It took me about 4-5 months to get fairly well synced in Blender and I had some past experience in Max . . .

You'll soon find that every 3D program will use three buttons on the mouse. Its pretty much a mandatory thing. . . I'd go and buy one, since it helps A LOT to keep the original buttons for the mouse (middle click pans, while scrolling zooms, right click selects, left click does many things, ect.ect.)

Anyway . . . Blender is a pretty awesome program. . . Don't be intimidated by the tons of buttons though. Over time you'll learn what each one does. The UV mapping is defiantly something to get into it as well, it was rated better than the UV mapper included with MAX.

The built in game and particle engines are also extremly powerful, allowing full game capabilities. Don't get your hopes up though, its still requires full programming knowledge though. Python.

Also since its free, the community supporting it is quite large and open. . . helped me a lot when I was getting started.

Well, I do have a problem with that. I have mild cerebral palsy in my right hand so all it's capable of doing is holding down 1 button at most while my left hand does the work. Also, there seems to be a big change between Blender 2.34 and 2.46 in that the stuff in the tutorials aren't present for me like Extrude->Region, Mesh->SubSurf.

Also, the only buttons I remapped for my mouse are basically the left and right command keys for the mouse keys. Mouses in general frustrate the hell out of me.

That sucks.

It's quite the program. In the past, I had some experience in both Max and Maya (none of them long term) and I decided to stick with Blender since I simply "could do more, in less time" with Blender when compared to Max and Maya. . . plus, the latest version, 2.46, has a built in hair styling editor, which allows for very precise control over hair and fur, neither Max nor Maya have that yet.

Yeah. I watched a bit of the video tutorials. Although, having a Mac laptop with only a one button touchpad, I had to remap some keys to function as right-click/middle-click using a useful tool called AutoHotkey.

I'm surprised too. It's very lightweight. I am definately going to enjoy it!

Try Blender. Its free and extremly professional in a sense where it has even become a competition for Maya and 3D Max. . .

Thats some awesome modeling. Very quality stuff your making, can't wait to see the renders with texture mapping.

Mind if you could give me the link to its homepage? I'd like to try it.

EDIT: Nevermind, got it ^_^

My dad is taking courses in Maya and I've tried it a bit myself, but I'm intimidated about using it because all these new versions pop out that require thousand dollar upgrades and..UGH!

But yeah, I am pretty jealous! Nice work hun!

Chrono Trigger OST - Remastering Project

For the past two months or so, I've been remastering a few Chrono Trigger songs. I was wondering if any of you would be interested in giving your opinion and critic on various songs that I present throughout the project so I can make these songs the best they can be? I'd also be willing to take requests. . . and to show you guys I'm not some random kid with GarageBand, here's my latest song, The Battle With Magus, its a note for note remaster, and it took me about 4 weeks to finish and get it right. Battle with Magus

Tracks I'm working on at the moment are; "The Brink of Time", "World Revolution", "Black Omen" and "Wind Scene". . . any critic on the song and requests will be really helpful. Thanks ^_^

EDIT: updated the song a bit

I doubt it.

Although the idea is very good, the lack of animators and demand for proper casting is too high to make something like this.

Plus, I want to move on with my art to other things.

Yeah, plus it'll save a lot of Render time since theres less polygons.

The Terrain looks really good for manual working and it should turn out really good once you get it textured. Just make sure you get a good Shadow and Light Map on there as well to make it look sweet. You can ask me if you want some help on making shadow and light maps.

Eh I like the way I work. No offense.

Update, made Zeal Palace, and some of the caves.

Therefore, I'll let you do it the way you want, because nothing sucks more when someone else tells a artist how to make something, trust me, that sucks a lot.

But, if I may suggest something, try making the castle and buildings low poly. So it looks more like Stonework, right now it looks like clay.

I'm 100% positive Maya can use Heightmaps, it is a professional program and should support it. In most cases, it might be called  "Noise" or the "Noise" effect that takes a black and white image and applies noise to the mesh. That is what Blender does.

well i at least thought five episodes ten minutes long for season one. i think it would be easier than thought because you have to consider that a good portion of the game is conversation.
if it's all right i would like to start a rough draft script, then when ever you're ready the script will allready be done for season one.
also if a show does come to fruition i would have to say the dungeon like area's should be shortened for the sack of being able to produce the episodes quicker.

Thats way to much to think of now. I'm going to make the cast and set, then worry about expanding to a full team of people Willing to actually help me make something this big.

if we would start one one episode with the events at crono's house and the millenial fair, it would be fairly easy to produce because it's mainly conversation.

Even that would take forever, Magus has taken me over 2 months to make, image the entire cast, scenes and talking alone. Plus, I would need to depend on too many people, and I'd like this to be a solo project with some help now and then.

Hmm...as one modeler to another, I would rather do it with a height map rather than manual modeling.

Plus, if you use the method of the heightmap, you can use a ambient occlusion and get self shadowing for your texture taken care of as well. Plus, a heightmap provides more precision and in the end, less polygons and better results.

But good start either way. Hope to see more  :D
