Nightmare's 3D Project
« on: August 24, 2007, 11:20:45 pm »
Well, I've started work on trying to make a 3D Image of Zeal, but it's going to take me a while to finish. So I've decided to show you guys the progress of my work. :D

Right now, I haven't finished all the kinks in the model and I have yet to texture it.

Hmm...as one modeler to another, I would rather do it with a height map rather than manual modeling.

Plus, if you use the method of the heightmap, you can use a ambient occlusion and get self shadowing for your texture taken care of as well. Plus, a heightmap provides more precision and in the end, less polygons and better results.

But good start either way. Hope to see more  :D

I don't think Maya can use heightmaps. Not sure, I'll have to check that out. Thanks for the advice though!

I'm 100% positive Maya can use Heightmaps, it is a professional program and should support it. In most cases, it might be called  "Noise" or the "Noise" effect that takes a black and white image and applies noise to the mesh. That is what Blender does.

Eh I like the way I work. No offense.

Update, made Zeal Palace, and some of the caves.

Therefore, I'll let you do it the way you want, because nothing sucks more when someone else tells a artist how to make something, trust me, that sucks a lot.

But, if I may suggest something, try making the castle and buildings low poly. So it looks more like Stonework, right now it looks like clay.

Yeah, I'll do that. Save me some kilobytes too. :D

Yeah, plus it'll save a lot of Render time since theres less polygons.

The Terrain looks really good for manual working and it should turn out really good once you get it textured. Just make sure you get a good Shadow and Light Map on there as well to make it look sweet. You can ask me if you want some help on making shadow and light maps.

Shadow and light maps huh? I'll look into that.

New update, finished the land bridge, and finished Kajar. Lowered the polys on the objects by 1/3, any lower and they become too blocky.

I'll be working on textures soon, I want to finish everything else before I start that up.
