Yup.  There was no music.  The only sounds were the sounds of magic and attacks.  Albeit, they were a little bit echo-ey to break up the whole DARKNESS Beyond Time motif.

Meh I think the reason they left music out is to show just how dark and silent the DBT is

I actually liked it without music.  The eerie winds and the twisted sky and ground gave it an intense feeling of darkness and loneliness.

It is better without music IMO.  Even Marle said it was "somewhere cold, dark and lonely".  The lack of music strengthens that loneliness (poor Schala).  :(

Also Schala tells Magus that no amount of power can save her.  In CC Schala and the TD both die if you kill it the old fashioned way.  It all seems to match up at least.  :)

I remember the first time I fought the TD that I was so focused on getting the elements right to use the Chrono Cross I never really noticed the battle had no music.

Only when I managed to use it and just watched what happened later did I really noticed the whole battle went silent except for the attack sounds and such.

Well the Cross OST has "Into a Time of Darkness" which isn't so much music as it is ambience.

Maybe they intended it to be the BGM but felt that the lack of a BGM had a better effect. Either way, it merits a FacePalm.

Getting the elements right is even easier then killing him, I even managed sometimes during his "green stage"

And I couldn't bear to let poor Schala die :( Her theme is too awesome for that
