I just love Final Fantasy VII - Advent Children.  Especially this song:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_vUVI47QX8g

I got the vocal music for it (SATB style) and I'm gonna bring it up to my concert choir teacher.  We'll see if the whole choir (all 40-something of us) can sing this song, even if it's just for a let's-have-fun-with-it exercise.  It truly is a majestic song.

Bones: Dammit, Jim, I'm a doctor, not a historian! Oh, wait...
Kirk: Well, that explains a lot.

1) Thank you, all.

2) A literal "Daylight Saving Time" seems like a great idea of a story, actually. Evil Emperor is stockpiling daylight, keeping it from everyone else, slowly sending the world into darkness, until a plucky young hero (possibly in a green tunic and floppy hat, accompanied by a fairy) breaks into the Daylight vault and lets it all out.

3) As for something I love: barely missing a green light. Why? In this particular case, I was nearly to work (and thus would be leaving my car). Because I was stuck at a traffic light, I was still in the car when a favorite song came on and I got to unexpectedly rock out to it. A very nice way to start the day.

Ppphht. Make that young hero be either a time-travelling katana-wielder with red spiky hair or one with a green poncho and blue fur cap accompanied by a flying cat, and then we'll talk. :P

....I love the PSP remake of Lunar. Now if only they'll remake Chrono Cross, I'll be a happy man.

Yesterday I received my first acceptance letter to a PhD program.
Congrats.  8)

Here's hoping you get another one or two to give you some choice and bargaining power at the end of things.  It's quite a jolt from Undergrad, or a step up on the exhaustion meter if you're coming from a Master's.  Don't hesitate to try and negotiate a revised timeline with your supervisor if you feel overwhelmed, as it's easy to  let things undermine your health, especially with the novelty of teaching / marking four sections of classes on top of coursework.

The teaching side is actually the highlight to things, I find.  That and getting more involved in the conference / publishing / presentation circuit.  If someone told me upon finishing my BA that I'd be traveling to Finland and Austria for school stuff, or drinking wine with senior military figures and government officials I'd have told them they were crazy. Those sort of things make the lifestyle seem worthwhile, for me anyway.  Though it is kind of crisis-inducing at times to see friends getting real jobs, having children etc while you're still in school!

I'm off to make my Sakuracon dress today! I really love the material. It might not look exactly like Schala's concept art, but it's still awesome. It's one of the coolest purples ever. At least I have the hair for it!
