So. Thor.... is actually a good movie. Kinda.

I mean, they Miss the Point pretty spectacularly on several matters from a Norse myth standpoint and the armor CG lens-flared all to hell, but it was roaringly superhero-epic. And damned if it wasn't pretty awesome to see the scale and grandeur of Asgard. I am relentlessly picky about portrayals of Odin in particular and this isn't him at his best, but Anthony Hopkins was perfectly competent at it and it was pretty awe-inspiring to see the one-eyed king be his rockstar self. They even got a bit of Loki down, though they felt the need to explain away his Loki-ness with a really silly "this is why I'm eeeevil" explanation.

I have a few more philosophical quibbles along those lines, but they really aren't that important.

(Of course it's based on Marvel and not myth really, but that's why I saw it, hence that angle. I can't attest to its relationship with the comics.)

So yes. Flaws aside, I uh.
Keep daydreaming about battling frost giants at work.
So I guess the movie did its job!

I've been going through the old topics in the General Discussion section and I must say, there have been some awesome topics. If i had been smart, I would have collected a list as I went. But if you have not taken a stroll lately, I highly recommend doing so. You might find such gems as this reflection on 2006 or this discussion of the subjunctive mood (kudos to J for a wonderful explanation in there).

It is a weird mix of walls of text and spam, but Josh's old "FAT Topic" is another fascinating one.

Today I have the music of Terranigma stuck in my head

Now I really want to play the whole game again... In days like this, I miss being a child and having time to play my videogames... oh well, back to work  :)

Dude! Lica, the theme from Crysta village (in the Underworld, no less), is the BEST!

Just don't open Pandora's Box... Or you'll have to travel to the Overworld and create life. And find out you're a Underworld clone of a man from the Overworld. And then die saving everyone by fighting Dark Gaia. And then maybe return as a bird in the epilogue. Or maybe just not die. It was sort of ambiguous.

:)

Oh man, I love that game. My most favorite overall of the trilogy. And such awesome music too. I especially like the Underworld's theme, though the Overworld's isn't that far behind either...

Out of scene study unscathed and continually progressing.  Auditioned Tuesday.  Two more tomorrow.  Another Saturday.

Fuck yea.

8/7

And speaking of some sweet theme tunes, I was always liked the ost for Rise Of The Phoenix on SNES.  There was a track in particular that I LOVED, but it doesn't seem to be on youtube and I'm too lazy to get the SPC stuff right now and record it thru my soundcard to create an mp3 copy.  So I'll settle for my 2nd fave, the opener.

It looks like you had some extra time on your hands, Thought!

It's fascinating to look back at the atmosphere that used to exist here (which virtually none of the newer Compendiumites know about), and even more fascinating to look back at my own development. I remember all the topics you linked. And I knew you would find the "FAT" topic one of these days. Call it an educated hunch. =)
