I think it was rude that possibly the person most opposed to Ted Kennedy on these forums is the one to start a thread about him, as if taking some kind of moral high ground.

I can understand where you're coming from. But he's honestly done what every conservative does. They make mistakes, point fingers, then apologize heartily.
As opposed to belittling, and acting as a bigot towards every fucking thing you do? LIBERAL. CONSERVATIVE. RELIGIOUS. ATHEIST. ASSHOLE. BASTARD. Your all more or less the same god forsaken pricks whole bicker over the internet. I read all most of the threads you all start, many of which are good reads...for a while before the melt down to overclothe school yard fighting.

I don't mind the "debating" but will it stop spilling over into every thread. Same applies to this surreal humor. Its ZeaLitY site I get that, he has the right to have threads about them, but does it have to be in every thread!?! Z you said that you often get banned for challenging other Admins because that have a double standard. So I ask YOU, and the same goes to Lord J, Lakonthegreat, Truthordeal, ZaichikArky.

Learn some mother fucking tolerance.

A man just died.

A teacher always tolerates a student. They ignorant deserve tolerance more then any one, and yes they are ignorant. You were a zealous of a zealot as you are know ZeaLitY(how awesome that that came out unintentionally) and I would love to see how you would have fared if all who knew logic and reason never tolerated you.

STILL this isn't my point. Every thread that Truthordeal posts in you rush in and ram sack it and make something wrong in to something ruined. This is a thread that regardless of who made it, and that shouldn't matter in this case, was to mourn someone.

I don't have much more to say on the topic.

Fine, Z. Delete this thread because apparently you seem to think that even creating a thread out of reverence of a dead man is too far above me.

Make your own and start it that way, since you're the only one here that is suited for the job. Prick.

Won't happen. By letting the thread stand, ZeaLitY shows de facto tolerance (maybe not the best word to use, but I'm not sure what other word to use) even though he's expressed his disagreement on a philosophical point. The Compendium is harsh ground at times when folks butt heads ideologically, but it's still rooted in transparency. If people and threads start disappearing in the night from the Compendium forums, there's a pretty damn good reason -- like posting porn, leaking C&D'd material, or sexually harassing other forum members. To my knowledge no thread here has ever been deleted for being ideologically conservative, or being started by an ideologically conservative person. Some of us were ideologically conservative ourselves not too many years ago.

Like me. But then I realized that most of conservatism's values and views are so selfish. I can't live in a world run like that. Also, I'm tired of rich people like Rush and Hannity telling me how to feel as a middle-class American.

Yeah, the one thing about Z is that he won't ban members or lock/delete threads if he doesn't like something (at least not that I know of). I don't know if I'd call it "De-facto tolerance", but I do at least give him credit for that because I know a lot of other moderators who would close this thread.

I completely agree with KebreI, even if I'm on the list of instigators, this is very poor judgment to keep bickering in a thread like this in particular. Regardless of who created the thread, let's stop fighting. Kay?

Teddy would have wanted it this way. Everybody knows you can't do anything with a pecan pie but throw it at somebody else.

I, albeit with hesitation, actually find this thread refreshing in that it does break from the expected somber and agreeable tones of most "R.I.P." threads.  I'm a little surprised at what began all of this, but it isn't the first time I've been surprised in that manner on this forum.  Just seems to be the way things are here, so why hold up now?

Regarding Ted Kennedy's life, here are a couple of links that will give some idea of just how much of a pivotal progressive figure he was.
http://www.npr.org/templates/story/story.php?storyId=112007457 - NPR Timeline, a pretty brief overview
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ted_Kennedy

Actually, it's because of several threads I follow here that I realize just how important people like Kennedy are to ensuring a good and just existence for those who would and still need one.   Because I post here I'm as personally involved as I've ever felt in these kinds of things.  Before I joined CC I never had to think so critically about social justice issues to simply follow the day to day conversation.  I think that calls for a toast all around, to Kennedy, all the "Kennedys" in the world, and to CC.

Indeed. Kennedy was there at every step of the way. He was there when we reformed our racist immigration laws. He was there for the Civil Rights Act. He was there for the affordable housing battle. He was there pushing for healthcare reform all the way back in the days of the Nixon administration. One of the things that conservatives have a hard time explaining is that the lion's share of our best steps forward as a nation have come about when liberal-minded people recognized injustice and followed through in the struggle against it. Let that be a lesson to all those who think we have won enough advances; history always declares otherwise: We are not finished yet. One day our descendants will read about our era in their history texts, and roll their eyes at us for opposing gay marriage or universal healthcare or sexual equality or any number of other realities that they take for granted as enlightened and modern.

dear god what happened to this thread?
i havent taken a look at the news yet because i woke up late because i felt like a zombie this morning (har har har), but last i checked massachusetts was grieving while trying to move forward. with the death of Mr. Kennedy theres an empty seat in the senate for massachusetts and therell be a special election in about 170 days or something for the new senator. apparently though they think they should have a special temporary senator to stand in until the special election, but they also dont want this temp senator to run at the special election. any thoughts on that?
