So, the Dragon Ball movie...
« on: August 30, 2008, 01:36:16 am »
Looks like utter shit.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dragonball_(film)

1) They've dropped all talking animals.

2) Goku now looks like a whiny futureshirt.

3) Goku, as well as other characters, now go to high school.

I want to cry.

(Onthe plus side, though, Chow-Yung-Fat will be playing the role of Master Roshi.)

Wait, no Oolong?

Quote from: Wikipedia
In adapting the Dragon Ball manga, the futuristic cities were kept, however, the anthropomorphic creatures and talking animals (such as Turtle, Oolong and Puar) were dropped.

No Oolong. :(

I don't even like Dragon Ball all that much I can tell you that this is already showing signs of "I'm telling you, It's going to suck!" which has basicly become my catch phrase toward my friend, who knows they are dropping all the good stuff and still argues it'll be good! He is such a fan that he can't accept anything that might break his fanhood! Anything short of wasteing his money to watch it is going to break the disillusion of it being good!

Wait wasn't Bulma like older then Goku....I mean like a few years older! Like I'm over 2 feet taller then you older , in the begining of Dragonball.

I admit I tend to be cynical so maybe he doesn't take me seriously, but when I say "THIS IS GONNA SUCK!" That is just what it means.

Not even the Japanese can transfer their anime into live action properly, what makes Hollywood think they can do it? We barely make our comics into passable movies. Anime, especially one with such a unique style behind it like Toriyama's stuff belongs as anime. I won't judge too harshly before seeing this, but yeah...it looks like trash...Bulma's hair isn't blue?!

If only it just followed Dragon Ball's actual plot...

Without Oolong and Puar (and the Turtle), this is going to be a bit depressing...

Piccolo being the antagonist makes me happy, though.

Also, Kame-sennin!

This is the flaw with almost every anime, every video game, and many comic book movies. Let's take something popular. Okay, that's good. Take the standard villain and hero, and apply to them the usual story. Believe it or not the mario Bros. movie failed this early on, this movie will be better than that. After that they decide they need to change a few things. That's where practically every one of these kind of movies fail. Let's take out the animals because people don't want to see something like Scooby-Doo, I'm guessing. Let's also not do the whole blue hair thing. Goku has got to be older as well since we can't find any child stars that could look like him. Of course, they can't even get an adult star that looks like him. So basically the way I see it, they dare to take on a big project like this, and then they chicken out on every single part that makes it a difficult task and what could possibly make it a really successful movie. It's either take a risk and you'll have A-Crap movie or B-Awesome movie: or you can take the easy and safe route and have A-Crap movie or B-Movie that is so bad you'll have the same reputation as movies like Disaster Movie.

At least they're getting Piccolo right. From the sounds of things, I'd imagine he knows even more about the series than the people making this movie.

Gosh, I for one am excited!

If you want to see talking animals, go see Beverly Hills Chihuahua.  If you want cool turtles, go watch TMNT.

It's always a difficult transition to turn a cartoon into reality, so at this point I am excited about the film.

Besides, it's the same thing with the Harry Potter films - you can't possibly expect them to fit every tiny detail of the Dragon Ball (remember, this is Dragon Ball, not Dragon Ball Z) universe.  There's so much information and story telling there that it would never fit into one film.

So I, for one, am thrilled and excited about this film and I expect it to be kickask.

They managed to make more than one good Dragonball anime movies.

I'm not expecting them to fit everything in, and I know that this is based on the first series of the francise, it's just that they've Americanized it to the point of no return, dropped some of the best characters, and , my biggest complaint, are trying to make te movie appeal to teenage audiences by putting the main character in High School and giving him teen angst.
