Happy Birthday, Chrono Trigger!

It's hard to believe that Chrono Trigger turns 24 this year. A quarter of a century later, the game continues to inspire with colorful characters, an engaging story, and time travel shenanigans. Even though the IP remains dormant by SquareEnix, the fandom is alive in well here at the Compendium and across the web.

And for Chrono Trigger's 24th birthday, our current Architect of Kajar, IHBP, gives us a very exciting gift! After toiling in the depths of Kajar Laboratories for some time, we finally have the official release of Chrono Trigger Plus 2.0!

This exciting new enhancement of Chrono Trigger includes a plethora of bug fixes, new locations, and even guest party members.

Check it out at RomHacking.net here:
https://www.romhacking.net/hacks/3691/

The enhancements include:
Quote
  • All 1999 is explorable, and the small part that was previously available is improved as well.
  • You can now acquire the ability to go to 1999 via Epoch, however only from the End of Time and only to a set location. Later versions will allow it on the world map but I'll need time to readjust the tile properties.
  • Tons of bugs have been fixed including all known ones related to Magus on the Blackbird.
  • Added a few flavor scenes.
  • End of Time is expanded.
  • Crossing Lab 32 on foot is now longer and has some story.
  • New area in 2300ad where Porre used to be.
  • A few scenes now feature the entire recruited party rather than just the three current members.
  • Possibility of acquiring the Speed shoes that allow 50% faster running
  • Can now buy a drone that will join you in battle as a sort of AI party member.

Hey, I tried patching it in several times and it didn't work. The file reads as corrupted no matter what I do. Is anybody else experiencing the same issue? :(

I understand the need for patching ROMs, but good skybird I hate doing it. I mess it up 75% of the time.

I know a few people on Reddit also had some trouble patching it. It could be the ROM used?

Oh yes! I'm so excited to play this!! Wooo!  :D

... No matter what I do I can't get it to work. I tried applying the new patch with the old CT+ patched and it kinda worked, except it did the regular into and then just Crono in a blank space with ocean sounds.

Help please! I really want to play!!

I would download a different ROM and try patching that one. I have a 50% patching failure rate with Lunar IPS, and almost every time it is due to a bad ROM. When I download a new one and try with the new one, it usually works (sometimes I have to download two or three from different sources).

Oh, and make sure you're using an SNES ROM, not the Steam version. I saw this error on Reddit earlier this year.

This looks amazing!

I really, really want to play this hack! Did anyone who was having trouble figure out how to get it to work?

I've tried my ROM that I use for well, everything Chrono related, and it did not work, I tried three separate different CT ROMs and all of them did not work. I tried only applying the main .ips but that didn't work. I downloaded a newer version of lunar IPS which didn't work. I tried loading it in snes9x rather then my trusty zsnew, and i still cannot get this hack to open D:

I hope this part is okay to say - The names of the Roms I've tried are Chrono Trigger (U) [!].smc and Chrono Trigger (U).smc. Both of these worked for other hacks, but not this one. Is there another named Rom I could try to find, I'm not going to directly ask where those that have this working found their ROMs but if its titled differently I'm interested to know!

I just really want to play this hack D:

I totally forgot I posted this here and found it again by accident. (also hope I'm quoting this correctly.  Not used to this style of layout.)
So anyways, I just finished my 62nd playthrough like a week ago.
Getting there little by little.
