I just love "Misirlou" by Dick Dale.

Listen to it in Pulp Fiction and you'll see what I mean.

Ah, Mystic Medicine. It's almost as if history repeats...

Caveman "Thog," circa 22,000 BCE:
"You no have to suffer. Here, eat roots! Feel better."

Warlord "Vaelpion," circa 170 BCE:
"Those roots are primitive. If you slaughter our enemies in battle, the gods will bring you health."

Bishop "Lucian," circa 1290 CE:
"You're sick because you're a sinner who worships false gods. Here, say these prayers to Jesus."

Doctor "Richards," circa 1960 CE:
"Those prayers don't do anything. I'll write you a prescription for some analgesics."

Homeopath "Starwolf," circa 2010 CE:
"Those industrial medicines are harsh and unnatural. Here, eat these roots!"

Up next...healthcare reform through war against Carthage!

Sweet, I finally got around to changing & re-sizing some images to make NEW RAVATARS. I even managed to sort out Ken's to an alright state, but I still haven't tried Bowser (which will just have margins that I'll cover with his oldschool sprites or something)...I also need something better than MSPaint so I can fix up the bottom of my Bloody Mess perk avy...>_>

A handy minimalist Google services environment. Not perfect, but better than the standard way IMHO.

I just received this in the mail, and it's been the perfect antidote for flushing a dull weekend's studying out of my system:

 :D :D :D

Seagal films have been a guilty pleasure of mine for years.  They're so terrible, it's nothing short of hilarious.  During my undergrad, my friends and I had almost a social ritual of renting Seagal films or other dreadful action movies, throwing in a two-four of beer and a healthy dose of weed, and having a grand old time laughing at his antics.  We kept a list over the years and eventually reached something like +-200 films before moving on.

The book in question is a whopping 400 pages.  It covers the years 1988-2008, and is divided into the Golden Era, Silver Era, Transitional Period and Direct To Video Era. Very tongue in cheek.  Each film gets a humourous review / summary and ends with a list of common features, i.e. 'Adopted Culture', 'Improvised Weapons', 'Bar Fight (yes/no)', 'Awkward One-Liners.'

Needless to say, I'm stoked.

Seagal films have been a guilty pleasure of mine for years.

It's been a long time since I've watched that kind of a film, but I do remember Under Siege pretty favorably. Along with the Schwarzenegger film True Lies it was my favorite of those classic "Oh no! {Terrorists / Religious extremists / Neo-Nazis / Mercenaries} have taken over the {local mall, famous museum, Island of Alcatraz, Battleship Missouri} in a bold gambit to {get lots of money, prove a point to the world, take revenge, steal nuclear weapons}, and the only person standing in their way is {the President of the United States, a disgraced ex-convict, an accountant, a cook}, who has no choice but to confront and kill them one at a time in a series of increasingly implausible yet undeniably badass maneuvers involving {luck, guts, violence, women}!" beat-em-up action movies. And it had Colm Meaney!

*points a gun at Segal*
Meaney: You should come cook for us!"
*gets shot to death from behind*

Steven Seagal films may not fit into that intellectual, needs a good story/plot/character development/acting niche, but they are extremely cathartic.

Also, the movie Taken, with Liam Neeson, is a very good movie. It follows some of the same plotlines as the typical Seagal flick, except that Liam Neeson is a good actor, and a lot of the characters are good. Plus, he's taking down a human trafficking syndicate. Can't ask for much better than that, now can we?

No, I haven't... but looking at the details on IMDB, I'll have to add it to my watch list!  Sounds like a hoot!  Vampires...??  Man, that is new territory.  I've not had a TV for the past 3 years so I've fallen out of touch with a lot of the newer stuff.  I think the last Seagal one that I saw was Half Past Dead, where he played an accent-free agent named Sasha Petrosevich. I'm looking forward to Stallone's 'The Expendables', with Jet Li and Dolph Lundgren(!).  Don't see that calibre of beat'em up films very often these days.

My recent guilty pleasure has been cheap 1980s ninja films.  Like this one, where a band of ninjas chase down a car.  On rollerskates.  :D

Or this one, with the best, 14-second shuriken death ever:

The main star of the films is an over-the-hill American in his 50s, who used to play extras in Herculean, tits-and-togas movies in the early 60s.  He wears an awesome camo ninja outfit and has a moustache to die for.  Chuck Norris has nothing on this guy.  One of his films even has the title of "Greatest ending known to movies" on youtube, captured in a mere 30 seconds:
