I dunno if anyone else has ever heard of Chrononauts, but i'd like to see a chrono trigger version of that game that covers the events that happen in chrono trigger. Chrono cross could have it's own expansion.

I dunno, with 40 some characters it's nearly impossible to create a game where every character is used.

Well, actually many characters are optional.
Many gamers enjoy collecting items though only a few of the items are valuable. So why can't characters become collectors' goals?

This is true. Heck technically pokemon had 150 different characters when it was first released and still you only end up using 6 of them, so in that regard i guess chrono cross doesn't seem that too bad.

There's a completely off the wall idea: Turn chrono cross into a bizzare pokemon like adventure where Serge is trying to catch them all in order to save the future.

It's very hard to decide how i feel about this. On the one hand Obsidian has made some good games, notably Kotor 2, which could have been awesome had it not been rushed by Lucas Arts. I think Masato Kato and Mitsuda are a must for every Chrono game though. i think i'd like to see Masato Kato and Obsidian Entertainment make an original game together before i could decide if they could properly handle the Chrono Series.

I think the main reason a SRPG leaves you with bench warmers is because many characters end up under leveled. If you swapped out a traditional level system for Cross's level system you could have an SRPG where every character is always usable. I dunno, with 40 some characters it's nearly impossible to create a game where every character is used.

See, I liked the whole mechanic of "collecting" characters, but I just wish the game had allowed you to make use of the vast number of characters who will inevitably be left out of your party. A system like Metal Gear Solid: Portable Ops or Peace Walker (in which you can assign recruited characters outside of your active party to a support infrastructure for developing upgrades, strengthening characters, and various other functions) would have been a good idea, though it would have also required the entire game to be structured with it in mind in order to maintain balance.

This is kind of what I was talking about with making it a strategy rpg. 40+ characters in a regular rpg is too much, but in a strategy rpg having 40 characters isn't a big problem, especially if you tweak each one slightly to make everyone useful at some point in the game (I.E. Irenes and Marcy could move quicker over water, making them better for water levels, etc, etc)

not to kill your excitement or anything, but perhaps it's possible that she got lost in a few dungeons and ended up fighting some battles over and over again that someone who's played the game more would know they could skip., which would contribute to her being over leveled.

Characters, Plot, and Themes / Re: Sky Dragon/Dead Sea

Perhaps since there seems to exist only one version of each dragon the dragon gods are a "missing piece" like Serge is and are able to cross dimensions in much the same way he is.

This might seem crazy like a crazy idea, and might not exactly make CC better, but I think it would be neat to see Cross turned into a Strategy RPG in vein of Final Fantasy Tactics. It would make the 40 plus characters seem less daunting since each character could be more specialized to different battles and you would select your team before each battle.

Just a thought.

Perhaps it was intentional in order to make those two characters stand out. although why you would want to use someone ho's hit value is so low and doesn't hit everyone is beyond me; I'd have to see if Zappa had more strength on average than everyone else, or if Razzly did less damage than other rod users.

One question: what is this kind of plant called in real life?

I believe it is called a "Pony Tail palm"

I desperatley want to see a sequal to "The World Ends With You". That game is possibly the best DS Rpg out there and I find myself craving more of it.

I think Queen Zeals change is not exactly Lavos brainwashing her but more along the lines of an addiction. She was always a strong willed and powerful woman who pushed the boundaries of magic/technology in her kingdom. She most likely was fairly nice at first, but once she tasted the power of lavos it started a downward spiral that lead her to be willing to sacrifice her own children for more of it. Kind of like actual drug addicts, most of them didn't start off as bad people, they just got hooked and ended up at a point where they were doing anything to get more.

That's how I understand it anyway.

Characters, Plot, and Themes / Chrono Cross and Venture Brothers
« on: March 15, 2010, 11:24:13 am »
I was playing Chrono Cross the other day and a very important question popped up in my head; why does the military keep sending Solt and Peppor to stop me when it's clear that they are rather incompetent. Then I remembered this exchange from an episode of the venture brothers:

Dr. Girlfriend: Why do you always insist on sending numbers 21 and 24?
Monarch: They have that rare combination of expendable and invincible that makes them perfect as minions.

Of course further thinking lead to me to realize that Solt and Peppor, and agents 21 and 24, are very similiar. This is likely a coincidence, seeing as I'm sure the "one short fat guy and one tall skinny guy" comedic duo existed long before both Chrono Cross or Venture brothers. Although this now has the effect of me imagining Solt and Peppor sounding like the guys from Venture brothers.
