General Discussion / Re: Grand Request / Questions Thread
« on: May 15, 2013, 12:36:37 pm »
And because I LOVE questions, let's revive this thread with another one:

If you were in a relationship with someone in love, were the perfect couple (as in, even if you get into a fight it usually only strengthens your relationship), what would you do / feel if:

1) you didn't love your lover truly, even if they loved you most, and yet you know they deserve to be the happiest person in the world and hence you shower them with all the love you've got, not letting them feel even once that they lack something important?

2) you loved someone truly, and thought they loved you back just as much, only to find out one day that they didn't truly love you and simply made you the happiest person on earth simply because they believed you deserved it?

Ah, but if you didn't love your lover truly....were you ever one half on the perfect couple to begin with?

General Discussion / Re: Square-Enix president Yoichi Wada resigns
« on: May 06, 2013, 09:23:13 am »
On an irrelevant note: I wonder how the working conditions at Square Enix may be after Matsuda has inherited the throne...

Probably won't change much.  They're a Japanese company and they're going to do things the "Japanese Way," until they go bankrupt or worse.  Come into the office early because you've got work to do you didn't get done at home last night, if you even DID make it home, work until lunch, work through lunch because everyone else is working through lunch, work until closing hours, notice no one is going home and you don't wanna be the first one to go home because you'll be seen as lazy, and when the last train leaves the metro area at midnight you MIGHT go home.  If someone else does.

Rinse and repeat until the weekend and you've technically got two days, or a day and half off but you don't want to be seen as lazy so you stop in to the office and work another day to try and stay ahead of the workload.

Since the Tohoku earthquake the government started screaming about power shortages so since then companies have started making their workers work "shorter" days and come in more often (as not to create problems with the power grid), but as you can see above, these "short" days become full shifts since everyone is too scared to go home and be seen as a problem.

Overtime isn't paid.

Oh, and there are labor laws...  But they aren't enforced.  And again, no one is brave enough to challenge their company for their labor practices in a court of law since the court process here is so beleaguered.

Working for a Japanese company myself (in Tokyo) and having 80% clients who work at other Japanese companies this is my educated guess.

The Great To-Do List / Re: Material Requiring Translation

I just got cracking on my super adventure: translating the Chrono Cross Ultimania.  Perhaps Trigger after that.  It'll take forever but hey, better than never!

Offtopic, but @milkjamjuice...

I thought your username looked familiar and clicked on your YouTube channel... Lo and behold I've watched quite a few of your videos in the past! You're one of the Japan-based video bloggers I've watched (SoftyPapa, Gimmeaflakeman, to name a few). Anyway, welcome to the forum and hope you're enjoying your stay!

Once upon a time the Chrono Compendium was a vibrant and extremely active place. It's fallen on hard times over the years, so please forgive the lack of posts in these parts. :)

I am assuming you're also a Redditor (based on the tl;dr tag), so I'll keep my eye out for ya! :)

Hey there!  Wow, I'm so happy you watch my channel!  :o
Yeah, I actually used to be a member here when I was a senior in uni back in 2005-2006 but after I moved to Japan again I kinda just....disappeared.  I don't remember what my old username was so that's why I made a new one, lolz.  I came across a Chrono Cross Ultimania that I wanted to translate which brought me back here since I remembered there's always so much translation to be done!  That and I'm super rusty and I need to get back up to speed so I can get my N1 in the JLPT and possibly stand a chance getting a job in game localization...

YAY FOR EVERYTHING!

edit: Oh nah, not a redditor.  Never got into somehow.  I just use tl;dr a lot because in writing I get way too long winded most of the time.

I'm happy to be here!  Currently working on the Chrono Cross Ultimania!  I just found my magical kanji look up machine while cleaning and I am SO HAPPY.  This speeds things up so much!

This is whole situation makes me feel very "erg."  If I lived farther away from Korea, I don't think I would feel this way, but I live in Tokyo and we're quite close.  N. Korea has also made a habit of shooting test missiles over us for fun in the past...  I think it's very tense because unlike his father, Jong Un seems less predictable and a lot more reckless.  If they lacked him as a figurehead I don't think we'd be in this situation.  But yeah, when he barks all I see is a little chihuahua yapping, but it's also the same chihuahua who likes to come crap in my yard every week....

After having missiles launched over us, huge quakes, nuclear meltdowns, irradiated water supplies and so on I'd like to think I've developed a thick skin.  However this weekend when I visited Osaka a large quake hit Saturday morning (and most people I know who experienced the Tohoku or Kobe quake have a bit of PTSD regarding large quakes so things that shake freak us out when it didn't used to)...as I jumped out of bed and ran for a doorway I grabbed my cellphone and flipped it open FIRST to check if it was even functioning because for a moment I thought there could have been an electromagnetic disturbance due to an atomic explosion before logging into the emergency warning service to check for tsunami warnings.

tl;dr This is stressing me out.

I played Cross when it first came out and I didn't know what to think of it at first.  I played it through a few times and decided I liked it.  I appreciated the story more, though, when I stumbled upon THIS site and read the articles explaining the timelines and dimensions, etc...

I do agree though that so many characters were overkill because I'd rather have fewer, more developed characters.

Chrono Compendium Discussion / Re: Stuff requiring translation

Hi guys!  I sent a mail with some material to the chronocompendium mail on gmail about a week or so ago...  I wonder if my info was received....?

Today I am curious what exactly is the similarity stuck between FF4 and CT's combat system.

I remember they are both wait-until-the-bar is filled type of battle systems, with both HP and MP. Under the hood, I'm not sure but the equipment that changes your stats plays an influence in the battle.

Yeah, but that "bar," thing is just ATB, which has been the standby for pretty much ALL Final Fantasy games, as well as HP/MP...?

Welcome / Birthday / Seeya! Forum / Re: Are you an otaku too?
« on: February 24, 2013, 10:24:49 am »
Hey guys, I'm a big fan of anime/manga and video games in general, and after seeing this website I decided to join. After all, of the hundreds upon hundreds of video games I've played, Chrono Trigger is my favorite.

I hope to meet and get along with everyone here :)

Heya!

I'm such a hopeless otaku/nerd that I decided I could no longer live in my home country and moved to Japan.  Every day I think of ways I can get even nerdier.  For nerd-dom, I'm mostly a video game fan; I've been addicted since 1987 and RPGs are probably my favorite.  I'm playing through Fallout 3 but it felt too dark last night I popped in Chrono Cross for some COLOR! :D

Hello,

I am Windmaedchen and I joined just a few minutes ago. Finally really. I have been lurking around here for quite some time, ever since that crazy (fantastic) boyfriend of mine, who you know under the name of "Tushantin" linked me to various posts and threads several times daily since February 2012. This forum and everyone in it have made quite an impression on him in several ways. :D <-- This Nu Smilie looks quite creepy, to be honest. xD

I am glad I finally have a "real" and good reason to join this Forum, too.
I have finished playing the DS version of Chrono Trigger a few weeks ago and quite love it. I am not really a loud voice myself, so I will more read in silence and soak up everything about CT here at the Compendium and this forum. And contribute every now and then to the various discussions that are going on.

I hope to have a good time and am looking forward to getting to know you all better.  :)

Nice to meet you!
I also remember the first time I stumbled in here about 7 years ago; it was crunch time before graduation uni and I was GLUED to the screen reading all of the articles here.

And then when CT went portable oh my dear lord.  My boyfriend at the time always got mad at me for playing it in bed XD

Hello, Breakfast! (Milk, Jam and Juice are ingredients in a healthy breakfast for me) Welcome again to the... er, nearly deserted... forums! (Sheesh, this place used to be FUN before, butishouldstoprantingalready) What was your old account, anyway?

Translating the CC Ultimania would be heavenly! I think ZeaLitY would appreciate that too.

That's the thing, I don't remember my old username or I would have used IT, heheh.  Tonight I will translate a tidbit from the "materials needing translation," page as a gift.

Hello~

Nice to meet everyone!  I just remade my account.  I used to hop around here maybe... 2005-2006 ish?  Anyway, I just got my mitts on a copy of Chrono Cross Ultimania and plan on translating the whole thing for practice...  I know some of the material is needed here so I'll post it, if it's okay....as I do it.  And stuff.  I guess.
