Yep, that rumor comes from GameFAQs. As far as I can tell, no one has ever successfully acquired it. I've seen several posts on GF since starting to visit those forums in late 2003 talking about fighting hundreds of Wraiths to no avail.
Yeah, I think I've seen a few threads concerning this item specifically myself. However, I don't think I've ever seen a single post
ever, that has fully detailed an explanation on how to obtain it, and which actually makes any sense.
It's in the Brady guide as a rare drop from Home World Wraiths which is where I think that rumor started, actually...
Hmmm... I didn't realize that it was also in the Brady Games Guide as well. Is that a fact? I never bothered correlating the two 'guides', but I guess it's possible seeing as how there are plenty of mistakes in both (i.e. the FAQ stemmed from the mistakes made by the Brady Games one).
Oh my, I just saw the enciclopedia and I want to make a very important correction. Ghetz shirt CAN be obtained without gameshark. I do not own a gameshark and I just double checked my lots-years-old Chrono Cross save. As I remembered, I have the Ghetz shirt.
Yeah... unless you can provide actual 'proof' of what your're saying here, I wouldn't bother to continue posting about it. Specially if all the info your going to provide is misleading.
I never knew about the Hydra Marshes rumor, but I can tell you where to obtain it: Isle of Damned.
I'm not sure if recruiting Greco is a requierement, if any at all. But I vividly remember how I got it, it was when you're Lynx and you're gonna go against Garai. On the isle there is a creepy armor (around the end with the mirror puzzle) standing somewhere, and it will get you into a battle (hard if first game) with many armor monsters. I vividly remember getting the Ghetz Shirt as a spoil.
Okay... you see, I remember reading something
extremely similar to what your'e actually saying here a long time ago in the Game FAQ's forums.
I actually remember
verifying this as a complete hoax!
The battle that you're actually talking about is the one with the Wight Knight, which can only be fought once, like you said, at the Isle of the Damned in Home World. However, you don't necessarily have to fight him on your first trip, as you can actually trigger the fight (by luring the Will'O'Wisp who is hanging around that area) at any point in the game that you want.
That battle is
always fought against that
one special armor called the W'Knight or something in the game. There are no other types of armors
ever present in that fight. No Man-O'-Wars or Man-At-Arms at all! The only ones in the entire game are the ones you fight in the S.S. Zelbess (a group of Man-O'-Wars only) and at Viper Manor (only one Man-At-Arms in the group) in the Treasure Vault Room (when you put the Decor Shield in its place). Oh, and by the way, the Wight Knight's rare drop is a Rainbow Shell. Which is also one of the easiest ones to miss in the game. (Try fighting a Will'O'Wisp and the Wight Knight over and over until you actually get a 'rare' drop from it).
I never ever had idea it was a rare item, I was just "oh, Ghetz, that's Greco's dead friend" and continued. I repeat myself, I do not own a gameshark nor have used one. I know I got it from these armor monsters, which you can only battle once at isle of damned (armor disappears after the battle). Maybe that set of enemies is unique, different from the ones from Viper Manor (I think they also appared there).
You see, it's not that I don't want to believe you, it's mostly that you're not making any sense!
Trying to be ambiguous about it, it's not really gonna help your case or make your post a single bit more credible.
Anyway, don't believe me if you don't want, go experiment, I'm sure it's obtainable without game shark, seeing I have it. I only have one though.
If you ever provide
any actual sort of
credible evidence, I'll believe you. I will also try to verify it, as soon as possible (I have saves at just about every single point in the game).
Don't they appear on the SS Invincible as well? I thought it was one of the monsters Fargo sends to fight you.
Yeah, that's actually one of the only two points in the game in which you can actually fitght them.
No Man-At-Arms though, in that group. Which is good, conisdering that you get another chance to fight them at Viper Manor, after you recruit Sprigg (for her Doppelgang transformations).
