Magil and Kid

It's been something like three years since Kid and I met. Back then I was a drifter, wandering wherever my music led me. During my stay in the remote town of Regiorra, I ended up running into a girl who later joined me, leading to the beginning of all this.
That girl was Kid...

This associate of Kid's is known to us only as 'Magil of the Shadows'. I know next to nothing about him, except for the fact that he somehow knew Kid before I came into the picture.

Kid's quiet about her past too, but it's like I know her entire life story
compared to how little I know about Magil.
From time to time I find myself wondering who he is, where he came from, and so
on. I'd ask Kid, but I get the impression she knows as little about him as I do.

In Radical Dreamers, Serge met Kid and adventured with her since she was around 13. It mentions Magil knew Kid before then and saved her from Lynx when she was about 10, but was he always around for those years, or did he have some business elsewhere from time to time?

I don't think it is metioned in game.
Possibly Magil found Kid right after Lucca's orphanage got razed, and he might have know Kid was there before the accident. He probably paid regular visit to Lucca's place until the accident.

Didn't Magil save Kid from Lynx's men when she tried to attack him at the age of 11-13? That was when they actually met.

Perhaps Kid ran/sneaked away from Magil to seek revenge on Lynx.

If Magil 'happened' to find Kid after Lynx caught her, then she's really lucky. Unless Magil never showed up until then -- he just followed(Magus: hmm, I shouldn't show up until I find a mask). But I don't think it is necessary.

In Radical Dreamers, Kid says she's looking for the Frozen Flame to bury in the grave of a friend of Lucca's. We've pretty much all assumed this is referring to Crono. Vera and Porre take the Flame at the end of the game and the rest is history.

So when Kid finds out that she's in fact Schala at the end of the game, does she give up entirely on this quest? Could the request from Lucca just been a ploy to get Kid to unlock her memories, or could it be another resurrection scheme?

I don't know. But at least, to escape from Porre's pursuit is their top priority -- they are far more troublesome than Lynx.

"It's probably because of the Frozen Flame. We're getting close." Magil says. His low, rumbling voice causes the shadows of the room to tremble.
"What do ya mean?" Kid asks with a wrinkled brow.
"Look inside of yourself and you will find the answer, Kid. The struggle for your catharsis is upon you...""The long lost, another yourself, who doesn't want to be erased, is struggling inside you now..."
"What in the world are ya talkin' about...?"

From these lines, perhaps the Flame is really necessary to restore her 'lost' memory -- or another personality.

I'd agree. Perhaps the Flame is the way to break the seal on her personality/memories long since buried in her.

I'd guess even with her restored memories she wouldn't cease with Lucca's request. I mean, now knowing she's Schala, she'd probably had more reason to...?

I always thought it was another resurrection scheme, but now thinking about it... Lucca did not told Kid how use the time egg or the frozen flame. Kid did not knew how to revive Crono, so if that was the true intention, it seems like a useless effort. But Lucca did gave Kid the time egg for her to keep, and apparently both, the time egg and the frozen flame were needed for Kid to get her memories back. So it does looks more like Lucca just wanted Kid to get in contact with the Frozen Flame... or maybe she was trying to kill two birds with one stone?...

But getting the Frozen Flame was really a direct request from Lucca to Kid? Or was it something Lucca was trying to do while she was alive and left unfinished, and then Kid decided to finish it to honor her?

Aha, the idea of a Lucca wanting to resurrect Crono with the time egg and the flame, which also just happen to have the power to restore Kid's memories (and so many other things too, since Lynx wanted the combo too) seems plausible.
