Allusions to Chrono Trigger in Chrono Cross
« on: February 13, 2009, 01:03:09 am »
I am nearly positive there is a thread about this somewhere else, but I can't find it. I also remember reading somewhere that a list has already been made but I can't find it. So if you can find that please post the link. If not I am looking for subtle references to Chrono Trigger in Chrono Cross. Feel free to post the obvious plot point stuff to but I am mostly looking for things that could be otherwise easily missed.

Five ones I know of to start us off.
1. Easiest one in the whole game to find, the Enerton 'but your still hungry'
2. Your party jumping through a stain glass window out of Viper Manor, similar to Marle in the courtroom.
3. The epoch for one in the hidden workshop room of Viper Manor, similar to epoch for three with some potential plot explanations as well.
4. Serge/ Glenn x-strike similar to Frog Chrono x-strike
5. I forgot to check myself on my last playthrough but was told Johnny from the Trigger jet Bike race makes an appearance in the Dead Sea.

Thanks for help with either completing the list or pointing me in the direction of an already completed one.

Zappa's third tech, involving Zappa pulling out a black iron ball, striking it with a hammer, after which it explodes, is similar what is seen at the end of CT when Lucca's dad strikes a similar black iron ball to launch fireworks.

Could the one that was making Leene's bell in 600 A.D. be Lucca's ancestor?

In JPN script Radius uses "darkness of the fiendlord".
Sadly, it is quite blurred. Perhaps the only metion of Magus is in Lucca's letter.

The Bend of Time which looks like the End of Time.

Gespar in Viper Manor Library. I'm surprised that newcoke didn't point that out when he pointed out the Epoch.

Fiendlord/Demon King/Maoh? Wow, that's a nice reference :o It's a shame the translation blurred it like that.

Could be. It's been a while since I played it.

Yeah I was thinking of ones more subtle than the guru. More along the lines of jumping through the stained glass window in both games instead of Robo is the Promethus circuit.

Wasn't that the Sun Stone?

Could the one that was making Leene's bell in 600 A.D. be Lucca's ancestor?

I thought that myself, given two hints.

1. His name is Banta. Put the last two letters at the front and you have "taBan" or "Taban" which is the name of Lucca's father.

2. Banta's wife says that he wants a daughter that is both intelligent and beautiful. That comes around 400 years later in their descendant, Lucca.

Coincidence? I think not.

The Compendium already stated that Banta was Taban's ancestor but I never noticed your first hint, a shame since it was so obvious.
I'm ashamed of myself.  :?

I knew the second one was obvious, but it was still a hint nonetheless.

The DeltaForce triple tech, by Serge, Leena, and Razzly is basically a nod to Delta Force by Crono, Marle, and Lucca. Although it may not be--the techs used are completely different and so are the characters' innate colors. But whatever. And aren't all of Leah's techs the same as techs Ayla uses: RockThrow, TailSpin, TripleKick? And NeoFio has some kind of slurp technique. Kid's RedPin is also the name of one of Lucca's double techs.

There are probably a load more, but I'm rather lazy.
