New Years Resolutions Thread
« on: December 30, 2008, 05:19:49 pm »
- Keep up and intensify my workout routine
- Finish Sophomore year with a GPA of 3.5 or higher
- Write a 30 page letter to SE explaining, in detail, the need of a new Chrono game
- Quit smoking for the love of god
- Pay more attention to my dog and take him out on daily walks
- Get involved in CC:DBT and the RP board once again

In celebration of the New Year, what are everyone else's resolutions?

I really don't know. I want to finish up my novel, do better in school, and generally get along better with my family.

Usually, though, I don't make a resolution. To me, it's like saying, "I'm going to do this!" and then something comes up and you can't do it. Like if I felt really REALLY bad about my kickable butt or my belly that makes me look like I'm preggers in the wrong shirt, I'd say I'd go on a crash diet or something like that. But then I get really sick or something like that and can't do that anymore. It feels like if I don't complete the resolution, I've failed myself.

I must learn how to get seven hours of sleep between the hours of 11PM and 6AM, and use the rest of the day for productive activity.

Although, given that I'm taking night classes in grad school starting in late January, my current night owl habits may in fact be most conducive to success. Hm. Maybe I'll decide against this resolution in favor of --

Pushing AEHU, a hidden fan project, through to completion by December 31, 2009.

I have a few, but if you look at my Personal Text and my Signature, you'll already know what they are, therefore eliminating the need to put them down here. The point behind this post is to state that I have at least one New Years Resolution.

I plan to do my best at psychiatric evaluation and take my hormone drugs on a regular basis afterwards. In general, I plan to put my lifelong plan into motion -- bringing the real me out of my curse.

Curse? I'm afraid I don't understand.

Schals will tell you if she wants to. It's personal and I'm told she only tells close friends.

*shrugs* Very well, but I suddenly have the feeling I may have once known what it is. Oh, well, I've gotten used to it.

Hmm... Suppose I have a few:
- Get somewhat good at Chess
- Start learning C and Python
- Fill my free time with more meaningful activities
- Use my abilities to do something worthwhile for others

I recently invested in Learning Python by Mark Lutz. It looks like a fairly good resource.

I'm a guy who always felt was a woman inside. I'm a full woman, but I have a cursed wrapper that everyone seems to judge. Being addressed 'sir', 'dude', 'man' seems like calling me the N word if I were black. Hopefully this will be the last year I'm to suffer it.

Also I plan to look a bit more into C++ and hopefully make something.

I suggest if you'll be learning Python, learn 3.0, since it is incompatible with 2.x and is the latest. Better learn something new than learn something old and have to learn it again once deprecated.

I don't mind Python but it lacks stuff like multiple inheritance, templates, typecasting... C++ is pretty much my choice.

I want to learn C before I touch C++. I figure it would probably do me good to learn the procedural aspects of C before I start on C++; also I've been told Python is a tab bit more beginner friendly than C++. After, I've gained a grasp on C and Python, I plan on moving to C++ and LISP.

Anybody know any good resources for C?

I've read that Bjarn Stroustrup recommends not learning C before C++ as to learn C++ requires "unlearning" much of what C has.
