Go public with Editorials?

Should I go public with editorials, allowing any registered members to view the Event forum and contribute? My only worry is that it will have no real effect.

The only two reasons you should make a board private by invoking the curtain of privacy are to a) prevent extraneous "noise," and b) maintain the secrecy of secret information. This increases your control over the membership of the discussion, but not necessarily its substance, which would take a more radical degree of restriction.

Edit: Grammar.

I think there's a good chance that if members know what the editorials are, they might decide to write for one particular subject, whereas they won't be regulars (I fit into this category. I might write an editorial if the right subject comes up).
