I'll be happy to check out your voice later on, when I get off work. (They've got that site blocked up here.)
No accent = good.
I'll try and put up some descriptions for how voices should sound for each major character. As you look these over, keep in mind not just whether they fit you, but whether they would fit for people you know. Specifically, I know we don't have many girls on this forum, and we'd need several for the female leads. (Note that these descriptions aren't just asking for how the actor/actress' voice should sound, but whether they CAN sound like this.)
Crono: Since we have no idea what Crono's personality is, we want someone whose voice can be pretty much just "generic," I suppose. During the game we do get glimpses of Crono's thoughts and personal morals, so the most important part is that the actor has a firm grasp on the story and can understand Crono's point of view, carrying that emotion into the lines.
Marle: Sweet as Marle is, I think she's meant to come across as being bossy and almost bratty. Her voice should carry the young, moody teenager tone that tells you how fickle her feelings are. The actress who plays Marle should not be shy about yelling into the microphone, as there are MANY times when Marle raises her voice. Make sure your microphone can handle this without "popping."
Lucca: Lucca's actress should probably be long-winded, able to say a lot of stuff pretty quickly... This would make for some pretty humorous ways to show her technical genius as she explains the intricate workings of Gates and so on, at a speed that's obviously meant to NOT be understood by the other characters or the viewer. Lucca's voice would likely not be some sweet, sultry voice, but rather a soft-spoken, somewhat shy personality. I'd like to convey that shyness at first, and gradually show Lucca coming out of her shell as she is around the others more and more. By the end of the game, Lucca and Marle were all but best friends, and I'd like to show that as well.
Frog/Glenn: Seeing how this is a squire who has been insulted and lives in shame, he should be fairly soft-spoken. We should probably avoid deeper voices for this character because deep + soft = too low to hear. Deep voices also convey age or strength, and Glenn was still pretty young when he was cursed by Magus. People who are auditioning for Crono should probably also audition for Glenn. And be ready to use that accent!
Robo: (We may not use an actual person for this... Microsoft Sam may do! LOL...) He's a robot...he won't have particular tones or manners of speech, so just talk how you think a robot would if you want to audition for him.
Ayla: Ayla would probably have that "rare, big, muscular woman that's gonna beat you up" tone. I almost picture an almost Russian accent, ya know?
Anyway, should be maybe kinda raspy. She ain't your typical dainty girl.
Magus: The medieval accent should be present on Magus, but not strong. He may have lived in 600 AD for most of his life, but he didn't learn how to talk in this era. His tone should be somber, somewhat lonely. This is where the soft-spoken, deep-voiced people would be useful. Play on the notion of Magus being calm, but only because of great restraint. He may commonly grit his teeth as he talks, restraining his anger and hate for Lavos.
Schala: As wonderful as I think Schala is, her downfall is her indecisiveness. Her speech should be somewhat slow, as though she is carefully choosing her words. Her accent...if you can speak with an accent that isn't readily identifiable, do so. Preferably one that sounds very elegant. Keep in mind the accent that the elves in Lord Of The Rings had, and you'll be on the right track. Ladies who are auditioning for Lucca may also want to audition as Schala.
Zeal: Being Schala's mother, she would have the same accent as Schala. Zeal is not afraid to raise her voice, and her actress should be good at laughing. =P Also, Zeal's actress should be able to sound very loving...it's just that Zeal loves Lavos, not her children. For this one, I would REALLY prefer someone who can SOUND old enough to be Schala's mother, so we need a voice that can't be mistaken for being too young. Zeal herself is probably in her upper 30s, maybe her 40s when the Ocean Palace disaster occurs. So ask your mothers if they could sound like tyrannical queens! (Most of you probably think your moms already *ARE* tyrannical queens.)
Gaspar: An old man with a Zealian accent. (Read Schala's description for some help with that accent.) Really not much else to describe here.
(Belthasar and Melchior don't have nearly as much voice time as Gaspar, so I didn't bother with them just yet.)
Voices aside, who here knows Flash and would enjoy working on this?
