Alpha version Crono sprite?
« on: May 08, 2007, 07:01:29 pm »
I'm a month late posting this. It's a page from a (I think Brazilian) magazine featuring three screenshots. Crono's hair seems to be different, and I can't make out what else is going on in the Arris Dome.

Thought I'd post that here for a second opinion before declaring it on the CTP encyclopedia.

Quality is low, but his hair fringe definitely seems different. Very interesting status screenshot too; apparently characters had some sort of levels for each of the four Elements despite having a primary Element. Also the article says something about 24 megas? The final version is 32 megas I think.

Interesting first screenshot. The Epoch's flying over ground (not clouds or the flame background), and we can see what looks like jet vapor or something coming out of the Epoch's jets. (In the actual game, you can only see the vapor in the overworld sprite, IIRC.)

Correct, the alpha version sprites are a little different.  Unpolished would be a much better word to use.  Those are screenshots from Q3 1994 (a few months before the demo version)

I couldnt agree more. But it is a difficult thing to think about. They didnt even know how much of a success Chrono Trigger would be anyway.  :D

I'm sure someone out there has an original version of the Alpha and knows its worth lots of money.  So they either are going to sell it or they won't host it up on the internet so it doesn't spread.

Damn, if I found something like that, then I would freaking spread it through the internet, because I don't want to be a jackass, and what's the point of keeping it for yourself, and only you can enjoy it? When if everybody enjoyed it, it would be alot more fun, well for me it would...

Sort of looked like he had a comb over in the front.

I like the final version of his hair much better.

Yeah, it is Brazilian. :) I used to have this magazine, it's called "SuperGamePower". Unfortunatelly, they got closed a long time ago... :( Wish they were on so I could ask them some shots.  :(

The Crono's sprite looks more an ordinary townfolk sprite. :P
And for the Dome, it's somewhat different from Arris Dome...  :?

@CrAzY:
They actually knew (sorta). The text says "(...) By the staff we can see that Chrono Trigger will be even better than Dragon Quest and Final Fantasy. (...)".   8)

SEE YA!!!!!

Wow, I stand corrected then. Thanks for pointing that out!  :D Now we can just all pray that someone kept a copy from that magazine?

somehow i think if ct had stayed the same as in the alpha, it probably wouldn't have been as popular.

Well, no game has ever been released "the same as in the alpha". Not even FFXII.
