Don't they only leave it if you weren't found guilty? I'm pretty sure at least. It's just the people that feel sorry for you leaving you some goods. At least, that's what I assumed. If you were found guilty by the majority of the jury, I don't think you get anything.

It is said--and I quote, direct from the game script:

This may not have much to do with the topic but.... how are 6 ethers gonna help a guy who's gonna be executed?  Oh well, gues they knew he'd try to escape.

Presumeably that's simply a gameplay item list. In real life I would think they'd bring some kind of food, or maybe hide a knife in a cake, or something.

From some other things I've read in this site, for every "not guilty" vote, you get one ether, all of the votes save one, can be predicted on wheather you did the following.
1. ate the elderly person's lunch
2. checked on marle BEFORE picking up her pendent and immediatly giving it back
3. Saying no when asked if you will try to get her to sell her pendent to melchior
4. If you took the little girls cat back to her, and number five is randomly choosen by the game or something.

But ya, I'd of preffered a good katana 8)

I know I did all of the above and didn't do anything wrong, and I still got just the one not guilty >.<

Okay, basically:

1. You must not take the lunch. Leave the lunch be.
2. If you're going to take the cat back to the girl, don't talk to her! The game is mildly bugged here, because the girl is supposed to come in and whine at you if you spoke to her and did nothing. Because you spoke to her AND took her cat back, both flags are tripped and as such there is a 50/50 chance of guilt or innocence.
3. Speak to Marle before grabbing the pendant.
4. And don't say no when she asks for it back.
5. If you speak to Melchior, tell him no.
6. Stay put while she looks for candy!

That's it. Do all of that and you should be completely innocent. If you don't, you made a mistake somewhere.

I thought that it also mattered if you walked away when she was trying to buy things?
