Chrono Cross Written Sequel
« on: February 08, 2011, 01:19:56 pm »
Similar to how Crimson Echoes is a fan sequel to Chrono Trigger, I'm thinking about writing a fan sequel to Chrono Cross. I already have a basic outline done. What I'd like to know is what the fans, you guys, would like to see. Specific characters, places, plot suggestions. After all, I'll be writing it for you.

The story will take place one month after the events of Chrono Cross in the Ideal Timeline (which has run similar to Home World). The protagonist will, again, be Serge, who now has a speaking role.

Goddang, how long have I waited for this!  :D Thank you! Thank you!

I guess I won't be around for a month though, but hell, the wait would be worth it. People had ideas to expand past Chrono Cross but hardly has anybody done it yet (as far as I know). It'd be awesome to see what you cook up.

Ah, so may characters and so limited choices! There are a few things we'd like to see though.

1) Dario and Riddel's orphanage, and whether some other Lynx comes and burns it (not that we're hoping for it). Basically wonder where they go with it, or what awesome characters benefit from it (like Kid coming from Lucca's orphanage).
2) Glenn; Has he been knighted as a Deva? Has he become a lone wolf? What of Viper? Has he passed away leaving a legacy? What of Marcy and Nikki? And Miki? And what of Pierre's waking legends? What kind of Black Wind Commander/General did Norris become?
3) Turnip and NeoFio: who's dreams were they entirely? Draggy: did he turn into a gigantic Charizard?  :D
4) Leah: who was she after all? What relations did she have with Ayla?
5) What happened to Serge? Did he vanish as he wasn't meant to exist, or did he hitch with Kid/Leena? What about Kid? Did she take up Fargo's title as the Queen of Pirates? XD
6) And lastly what every RD fan had been waiting for: the return of MAGIL! And of course, Schala.

Speaking of which, what would you call the story?

Ha. One thing I'll be doing is shortening the character list. Yes, I'd still like to have at least cameos of many, if not all of CC's cast to at least show how/what they are doing, but 40+ characters won't be trailing Serge this time. :P

Leah would be a hard character to work on, as presumably she went back to prehistory (then again, the timeline has changed). The rest should fit in. I can guarantee most all the Termina/Viper cast (but oh God, I'd dread having to write KorCHA...). All 7 dragon gods make a reappearance, and are pivotal to the plot I've created. Also, references will be made to CT:CE, but it is not a direct continuation of it. My biggest problems are what to do with Lynx/Wazuki, and Lucca.

As for a name, I had in mind something like "Chrono Cross: Requiem of Dreams," yet it sounds too similar to Lance's "Prelude to a Dream" (and his kicks ass!).

Is this going to be a short story? Fan game? What's the format?

It will be a full fledged story. At least, I will try. I don't have the experience to make a game, so I figured I'd do what I'm good at.

Grobyc and Norris should be back in. Grobyc did, after all, talk about how he was going to better himself and find good things to do for the world. I've already got something in the works about him joining a soccer team. He needs more love. :)

I am intrigued by your task and think it will be an interesting read. Especially considering all the possible combinations of characters that can result (since there are two versions of many characters and the corrected time line would only have one). Do you already have a version picked for your story, or is that part still open to debate among fans? You could always set up polls for characters and people to explain why they think one version of a character is more appropriate.

At least with characters where one is dead in a world it would be easy to pick, since there is only one living to base it off of (though interpreting the correct time line of events to be that a character did actually die may be an interesting twist if used properly).

I was actually considering using memory as a plot device. Shortly after the story starts, the characters of Home World would suddenly remember all events from their other life in Another World (merging the two memories); the Chrono Cross is said to have the power to transfer memories, after all. Serge then sets out to discover why this has happened, and the repercussions of the event.

By the way, I'm basing the story in a Home World setting because, as the Compendium's "CC Resolutions" page suggests, no FATE = no Records of FATE = Home World.

And as a side note to all: When I do finally begin posting, don't shoot me for not having the CC ending you wanted!

Got it. So if you are basing it on home world and events that created the situation are being nullified (like fate) how are you handling people that died in home world? Do they stay dead, or are they now alive, but people are going to remember them dying? Are they going to remember dying?

That...would actually be an interesting topic to get into. I would it would drive people crazy if, while alive, they had this vivid memory of dying that kept replaying in their mind over and over...

There is the potential for many other things to work with. For example, that rich artist in another world that is a poor artist in home world. So he is still a moral guy that is poor, but now has memories of being rich and all the things it got him. Would he be glad he did what he did, or would he be tempted by that greed and now feel regret?

So many possibilities. You'll have a lot of material to work with if nothing else. I am getting very interested in how you plan to develop things now.

The latter, exactly. Without FATE, many characters are still alive, such as the Acacia Dragoons. Yet those who did die still remember. Serge, for example, will be forced to relive his drowning by his own father.

There is a lot of potential. That's one of the main reasons I started this, haha.

Hey now! We can always have multiple endings, can't we?  :D

He [Grobyc] needs more love. :)

Okay, might as well ask the question that all Schala fans are expecting. :P

Is she merged with Kid, or are they separate?

Ok maybe like you could write more about that Dalton foo and how he goes from bein some random busta who goes down in one round to bein able to tear Chrono a new Ass Hole with the Masamune, then fuck his bitch

Maybe make him a playable character. Show how he goes from arrogant King-wannabe to a mothafuckin conqueror. Master of the Game. And show the other changes he goes through as a character. Do you think he has a Connection to Serge. Kinna like how in that game Xenogears. Where it shows you how Fei used to be some other guys like Abel, Kim, And i dont remember their other names. But it dont gotta be that advanced, ya feel me?  8) :kamina

I have never read that, actually. Or any of King's novels.

Separate. However, I'm not sure how much I'll write of Kid. It's one month after the events in Chrono Cross, and still no sign of either Kid or Schala. Both will appear, though, at some time or another.

LOL. Ah man, that first half made laugh. But yes, I could expand Dalton's story. Serge is still the main character, but there is room for everyone. And thanks for bringing that up. I completely forgot about Dalton since CT. That would have been a major plot hole!
