I think you misread me: should halo die now, bungie would be hard pressed to try and produce something that would take over flagship status. They don't really have titles that make a name for themselves, and even halo was substandard at best. They really got nothing besides a 1 name.

Like Blizzard. If Warcraft died, They'd have to either up diablo or scarcraft, both of which are considered cheap warcraft knockoffs.

SE can kill ff and still have a good number of titles that sell well (kingdomhearts and dragonquest to name two.)

I don't know who considers Starcraft a cheap Warcraft knock-off. Certainly not the pros in Korea who make their living off of it.
anybody who plays starcraft pretty much knows its a cheap warcraft knockoff.

Not at all. It is a refinement of RTS games from Warcraft II. To call it a cheap knockoff is to ignore the various improvements and changes that were made between the two.

Your suggestion that Diablo is a cheap Warcraft knockoff is simply absurd.

exact same engine in all 3 games. the only new engine they've made is warcraft 3 and WOW. They've literally done nothing new, sides change the style of play SLIGHTLY.

Have you actually played Diablo? It's not even the same genre as a Starcraft and Warcraft. I'm not sure where you get your idea that somehow Warcraft, Warcraft II, Starcraft, Diablo, and Diablo II were all made by one engine, but it seems entirely baseless.

dude. I have diablo 1 amd 2. It's the exact same engine with rpg elements. That's the ONLY difference.

and since you don't seem to know what a engine is http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Game_Engine

Forget it, dude. You clearly have no idea what you're talking about. Believe whatever you want.

Yeah, you're trying to argue semantics over game engines with someone who has tested games for a living?

And developed, more recently. But hey, what do I know about all this game stuff? I just make the damn things.

and your honestly going to tell me all three games do not rely on the same engine? Are you honestly gonna tell me that the 1.) the graphics aren't the same across the board. 2.) the basic layout and level design aren't the same across the board? 3.) the basic gameplay and interactivity are the same across the board?

Are you honestly telling, that you have superiority in knowledge of the blizzard cause you can develop a game? Where the does that even come across as knowning what blizzard does? Do you work for blizzard? Have your ever worked for blizzard, apparently, studied their work ethics? They rehash everything. name 1 idea they haven't rehashed. One. All they are are FMVs and really simple gameplay. Nothing original. Nothing new.

You making games has nothing to do with blizzard at all.

Are you honestly gonna tell me that the 1.) the graphics aren't the same across the board.

Yes. Some of them are 2d, others are 3d. The Diablo games are at a wholy different perspective, and even StarCraft is rotated from the Warcraft games.

2.) the basic layout and level design aren't the same across the board?

Given that the Diablo games are a wholey seperate genre with procedurally generated levels, and the Craft games are the same genre with manually created levels, yes, I will say that the basic layout and level design are different. Hell, StarCraft even added layers to the playfield. Didn't have that in the Warcraft games.

3.) the basic gameplay and interactivity are the same across the board?

The basic gameplay between the Craft games and the Diablo games are completely different. If you want to stick with your point-click mind set, then the gameplay in Starcraft is the same is in Diablo is the same as in Half Life is the same as in any game for the PC where you use a mouse.

One. You making games has nothing to do with blizzard at all.

You missed the point entirely. I have not worked for Blizzard, and to my knowledge, I have not worked with ex-Blizzard employees. Neither (to the best of my knowledge) have you, which makes me wonder where you get the high ground to speak of the work ethic at Blizzard. Speaking of which, did you mean Blizzard or Blizzard North? They had two dev companies. But that doesn't matter. You (who I am assuming are a layman where game development is concerned) are expressing a technical opinion on a group of games. I, as a member of the industry that produces said games, am weighing in with my technical opinion on the games. We're using the same data here, but looking at it through different knowledge and experience. What Zeality was hoping you would consider when he mentioned my work is that maybe...just maybe...I've got a bit more of an eye for how things are going under the hood than someone who doesn't earn their living making video games.

How long have we waited on a Chrono sequel? And how long have we not waited for a FF sequel? Squeenix is stupid. Simply because they don't realize Chrono is getting more attention than a Final Fantasy game.

With the notable exception of Dragon Quest games.
