Plane crashes into Manhatten Building...Yankees Pitcher dies
« on: October 11, 2006, 07:36:33 pm »
Tis a sad day. At approximately 2:30pm today, a plane piloted and registered by New York Yankees pitcher Cory Lidle lost control and hit a 50 story building on the 20th floor.

Although terrorism was of course suspected, the passport of Lidle was found on the sidewalk near the crash.

Must of been very scary for New Yorkers. Saw the footage, suprising how little damage there was.

Planes fly over cities all the time. 99.99% of them don't crash in to anything.

Well I suppose anyone in a small plane such as a Cessna could deviate from a flight route and crash into any building then.

Although possibly not a deliberate act, anyone could rig high yield explosives to be detonated upon impact from a smaller plane traveling off course because of a "problem".

This is wonderful . . .

Small aircraft can fly pretty liberally. There are more of them than you may realize, and they're everywhere. It looks like what happened in this case is that the plane turned in rough weather to avoid the restricted airpsace around LaGuardia Airport (gotta see that name in a Chrono game sometime...), and at that point apparently lost its way and flew into the building, or had some mechanical or human problem onboard and suffered the same fate.
