Wait, now there is discrimination agianst left-handed people?  Well, I guess one can say that everyone is discriminated agianst in at least one way...

It isn't about discrimination so much as discrimination by the majority. That's what makes a big religion more dangerous than a minor cult; that's what makes discrimination against dextrals a joke but discrimination against sinistrals a subtle and sad way of life; that's what makes anti-black racism potent and anti-white racism weak; and sexism against women monumentally more powerful than sexism against men.

Bzzt! Incorrect sir. Women are not a minority. They out number men by about a percent.

Women are in the social minority. I'm aware of the raw population demographics. And let's not forget that for all the inroads women are making--now even becoming the more populous sex in many professional fields--there is a great deal of institutional momentum to keep them in the social minority, not only professionally, but behaviorally, psychologically, and culturally as well.

What do you mean, "Social Minority"? Classification of a minority group is statistical in nature. Unless you are using minority in the sense of "minority group" as defined by the government. Of course, I don't put any stock into that concept, for reasons I've mentioned on this forum before.

Women are typically excluded from many facets of society, and instead are concentrated in the home. It's that simple, I guess. One woman counts for less than one man in this society. Mostly gone are the days when this disparity is the law of the land--as it still is in many other countries--but today's society is the product of yesterday's. A comparison of the absolute numbers of men and women does not reflect the unfortunate reality that women are still a considerable minority in terms of their share of the power pie.

Mmm...power pie.

My mother has 4 degrees and was the CEO of the Bank of Moscow from 1989-1995. That's better than most men, or even you could do :P

That's very impressive. Good for her. But in the grand scheme of the world, one person does not a minority overturn. We should not in the midst of a single victory lose sight of the fact that sexism is still a powerful opponent to women's rights.
