Wait, wtf is that thing to the northwest of Superior and why isn't it a Great Lake too? It's at least as big looking as Lake Ontario, though with a bunch of little islands in it...

Probably one of those cases where they think it's that way, and it's already put as it is on the map without a complete confirmation. Just look how once it was thought California was an island, and was like that in the world maps for some time.
