Lack of Element?

Laser Spin -  Shadow
Area Bomb - Fire(not sure about that 1)
Shock - Lightning
Healbeam - Water(not sure, too)

Exactly. Plus, his lack of an element makes him worthless against some Magic enemies and for character reasons he really doesn't get much development or anything. You just feel sad for him the whole time and that's it.

True, but his physical attacks is above par & his dual/triple techs is a killer.

I usually use Crono, Marle and Magus
Chrono and Magus because they have the best spells
Marle I use to cure and use haste on Crono and Magus
and I equp Gold and Silver studs to each of these charecters.
Lavos is to easy to beat...
