I'm waiting for Final Fantasy XXX.

haw haw lol

But in all seriousness, if the series ever dies, it will take a very long time.  Would we all like a new Chrono game?  Hell yes.  I'd probably have an orgasm if they announced it.  But there's no need to diss on Final Fantasy because of it; by and large, it's a good series.  I'm playing X right now; definitely liking it.

As long as we keep buying them, they'll keep making them.  Some say the series lost is way with FF VIII, others say that FF XI betrayed the fans.  Others say X-2 was little more than 50 hr long Spice Girls Video, complete with costume changes.  I have noticed that they have been flat out not as interesting or as fun to play anymore.  X-2 Was the worst example of this.  I've missed like .5 of a percent point, so now I cant get the perfect ending.  Completion is one thing.  Turning a game into work is something else.  Denying me and ending just because I didn't watch a moogle cower in a corner 45+ hours ago is just freaking ludicrous.

I'll be renting FF XII, something I have not had to do for any Square game since FF II was released on the SNES.  Sad times we live in.

On a sort of related topic, I just wanted to say that FF XI is the greatest thing since sliced bread.  The Ultimate Final Fantasy... if you have the time and money for it.  I sadly, no longer have either.

Dear SquareEnix,

Make Chrono Break or the walls shall be your tomb.

Love,
Silvercry

I simply have a rancorous hatred for all MMORPGs. FFXII looks like it will be good, just judging from the Wikipedia entry on it.

Final Fantasy naysaying is to be expected from such a popular franchise. I think this hyped thread and the posts in it are less an exercise in legitimately predicting the future of the series and more an excuse to rage against the machine...figuratively speaking.

Final Fantasy will be around for a very long time. The fact that the games are noncontinuous from one another virtually assures the series' longevity, because each game can be something completely new, which means that in theory, so long as there are RPGs, there will be Final Fantasies. So long as the Final Fantasy name itself doesn't become a liability, either by becoming unpopular or by wrapping itself around a very narrow slice of the RPG genre, they'll be making this 'till the end of time, so I guess that I will pay for these new games till doomsday...do do do do, do do do do, do, doooo, do-do do-do-do do do, do do do-do-do do doooo!

Well, nothing I can say about the awesome-ness of this game will change you mind then.  I could pratlle on and on about is many, many strong points, but all boiled down to this for me: it was damn fun to play.  It was a level of fun I haven't had from a a game since time out of mind... Not since Chrono Trigger, now that I think about it.

But I understand the Dark Side of MMORPG's all too well.  I ghad to give it up, less it became my whole life.  For once you start down the dark path, forever will it dominate your destiny; Consume you it will, as it did Ever Quest players before me...

I'm sorry, what was the topic again?

FFX-2, FFXI and Kingdom Hearts were all made and released by Square, not Square-Enix. FFCrystal Chronicles was actually the one which was published by Square-Enix.

But anyway, FFXII and DQVIII will be awesome. I can't understand why you think FFXII can be bad. It's not really different from the other FFs, you just can move your characters on the field between the turns instead of waiting. It's no more different from the other FFs than FFVIII was.

o_0 i live in australia, and on the box of kingdom hearts and fffx2 it said SQUARE ENIX. i also never said ff12 would be bad, i just said it wouldnt be a TRUE final fantasy. if i did say it then....meh. oh wait, due to the current pattern of bad final fantasies, it probably will be :P

Why wouldn't it be a true final fantasy?

They may be re-releases or the Australian versions may have been released after the merging, but the fact is that those games were first released in Japan before the merging (April 1st 2,003), which means Square developed them by their own without Enix.

I never really was a big fan of the FF series, I do like IV, VII, VIII and IX a lot (a LOT when talking about VII), the other ones (all until X) I've already played, but just a little bit, never really got into them so I can't have a real opinion about'em... But I surely hope that squenix will give continuity to the series, as long as they keep at least the basic FF quality I have in my mind x)

The series is dying now no more or less than when FFVII came out or when FFX came out. It's just because it's a new gen that your previous perceptions make you believe that the series has 'gone downhill'. It's not exactly like w/e FF you like...boohoo...if it was, we'd just be complaining that it was exactly like w/e FF. I personally see the FF series (& Square in general) as being constantly innovative and taking their games in new and different directions that they may not have explored before. I think this is obvious.

Final Fantasy is failing in my eyes.
