You know Lucca was killed around 4-5 years ago. So the song was composed before that, 6, 7, or 8 years ago?

Aaah, but I was taking that into account, or wasn't I? argh, my math is just that awful, sorry...

Yeah, I guess if we assume that in some rpg lands you're expected to have saved the world a couple of times by the age of 12, being a sort of popular musician by the age of 12-15 couldn't be that strange.

...I actually thought he looked too short to be in his 20's, but now I think it was just an impression I had.

I guess Serge was one of those one-hit-wonders, because he ended up becoming a thief, anyway.

Oh man, I love these so much. Crono's pose is so dynamic and Magus' inking is intriguing. The forum is telling me no one have replied to this post in at least 120 days, but I couldn't ignore these beauties. Is there some place I can see more? Please  :)

Characters, Plot, and Themes / The age of Serge in RD
« on: January 21, 2011, 07:00:58 am »
This have been bugging me lately. I hope this makes sense.

I always assumed that in RD Serge was around the same age as Kid, who was stated to be 16 years old.

Then I noticed this part in which Serge mentions that he composed a song in his earlier years, and that coincidentally, it was Lucca's favorite song.

Quote
"That song... that beautiful song... it was Lucca's favorite..."
Kid softly smiles, closing her eyes. I can see she can't help but shed a few
tears for this long lost reminiscence.
This song is actually something I composed in my earlier years, back when I was
a musician. Kid seems to be very fond of it...

Assuming that Kid had to be 10 years old or younger by the time the song was already Lucca's favorite, how old could Serge have been when he composed it? How old was he by the time the RD got into Viper Manor?

I was thinking about this too... He mentions being a nomad. I always thought his character concept was designed around the gypsy nomad musician stereotype, being raised helping his family as a wandering entertainer or musician. That would explain how he could have being composing melodies that were getting known in the towns his family visited, from a very early age.

There's this other scene:

Quote
As Kid slowly opens the box, a comforting melody fills the air.

"That song..." Kid suddenly says, standing up beside me. I look over to her,
seeing her expression has changed to vulnerable curiosity, chasing a
long-lost memory...
"You know this song, Kid?"
"Yeah... a long time ago, someone I knew used to sing it to me..."
She turns away from me, rubbing her eyes.

Perhaps he was a traveling musician since he was a child, but how young could Serge have been if he composed a melody that became popular enough to be adapted into a music box by the time they got into Viper Manor?

Kid is not even seventeen and she is already a feared and famous thief, so maybe it could be plausible for a very young Serge to be a well known musician.

Even ignoring the music box, I can imagine that Serge could be older than Kid. Maybe 2, 3 or even 4 years older? that would make much easier to picture Serge composing the song at the age of 10 or 9 and Lucca singing it to a 6 or 5 years old Kid. Or a 12 years old Serge already as an independent wandering musician and a 9 years old Kid still living with Lucca...

It's 5am here and I'm rambling already...Any thoughts?

Hey, Sajainta =) Thanks for the welcome

It's good to hear that, I thought it was kind of weird, he... Now we're both ex-lurkers then  :P

Thanks, I guess my big deal with english is that I still need to check the dictionary from time to time, but that won't stop me from enjoying the forums  8)

Hi! I'm Lica. This may sound creepy but... I have been stalking these forums for... um, I don't know like two years or more. I couldn't even remember if I did became a member at some point  I looked through the member list and couldn't find any of my usual nicknames, so I decided to join anyway.

I've being a Chrono Fan since Middle School (that was like 10 years ago, agh!). Though, actually my obsession with Chrono games is fluctuating. Recently, I was helping a friend play Chrono Trigger, and after telling her about the other Chrono games I felt like picking up Radical Dreamers again and getting all the scenarios (The first time I played it I only got the first scenario and stopped playing), that got me totally Chrono-obsessed again.

Right now I'm playing Chrono Cross again too (After much deliberation). I'm giving it a second chance since I have always been one of its detractors (And I'm enjoying it much much more than the first time I played it, I must admit).

Ah, yes. Please pardon my poor english. I have no problem reading it, but writing is still a little difficult for me.

Nice to meet you all.
