Whatever the hell happened to that game? Let me guess, scrapped like most of the other abandoned series like Saga Frontier?

The SaGa series is getting its own "20th Anniversary" celebration in Japan with a 3D remake of SaGa 2 and a mobile phone version of Romancing SaGa. It's nothing abandoned.

Did the trademark ever expire in Japan though?

It expires on July 26, 2012.

I don't think the portals have split destinations. They either lead to this or that place.

Portals can have split destinations. The Gate in Magus's Castle is an example of that. Besides, it makes more sense for TB to be matter-based rather than strictly portal-based.

That said, the idea of a TTI-fied character getting access to the Darkness Beyond Time by using some sort of "TB portal" is interesting. They could end up there without getting annihilated, maybe... Mmh, almost like cheating death or something.

78
Sorin destroys the Dragon Tooth in 3 million BC. When he jumps into the portal the Dragon Tooth is time-bastardized but he is not since he isn't a TB. The original Tooth appear in 3m BC with him.

79
However, there is no evidence of a split.

Instead, there is a problem with Sorin. He time traveled alone, then CMG followed. That means there was a time line in which only Sorin emerged in prehistory, and somehow this attempt failed since it took now another time line, in which this time CMG time traveled too.

*insert Phoenix Wright "Objection" gif here*

Not a plothole. I planned this one carefully considering the Telepod and Doan plotholes in CT. Here the trick lies in Magus's quote saying "I see... It was the Dragon Tooth that resurrected the Reptites" (or something like that). Sorin travels to Prehistory first, so there's a timeline in which he is in Prehistory without CMG. However, he has no idea the Dragon Tooth is responsible for the Reptite timeline, so he didn't change the timeline. He probably just tried to attack King Zeal and was killed. This "creates" a timeline which is the same Reptite timeline as before except CMG can now time travel to Prehistory (their version of Sorin gets quietly time-bastarded). Now, Sorin is in Prehistory with CMG, and, hearing Magus talks about the Dragon Tooth, he thinks fast and jumps on the Dragon Tooth to prevent the Carmine Genesis.

(Magus didn't know as much as Reptite Lucca/Robo concerning the Carmine Genesis, but with what Yaluk and Coyopa told him and by re-living the event of the Tooth getting gated through time, he deduced the Tooth's role.)

Oh, what I had in mind for this topic is plotholes that encompass multiple chapters or even the whole game (King Zeal time travels a LOT on his own and most of it is not seen). The CMG wasn't one of those though. Most discussions should still occur in the video threads.

Concerning a subforum, the biggest con is that it might attract lots of "WHERES THE GAME" topics from passers-by.

81
Eh, why not? I renamed the thread Plothole discussion. The story analysis can probably just be discussed in the video/news threads, at least for now. A subforum is probably up to Zeality.

82
I was just theorizing but instead of the TB theory how about this:

Each time a timeline is changed by time travelers how about it just creates a parallel universe instead. So the events of Lavos eventually destroying the world still happened but just in a parallel world that the crono team created after defeating him instead of that erased timeline getting sent to TDBT?

If this were true in the Chrono series, there would be a (real) duplicate version of Crono when your version of Crono comes back to 1000 AD. There would be duplicates everywhere due to all the time traveling actually.

It helps to think that under the TB concept the "duplicates" are past versions, not real doubles. It's exactly how the player's version of Robo can interact with another Robo in the Middle Ages. The one in the Middle Ages is not a duplicate but a version of him who's 400 years younger.

83
So obviously, another version of Crono, Glenn, and Magus are sent, thus creating two sets of them due to time travelers immunity. Can anyone say "Plot Hole"!

Not a plothole. The original Crono, Glenn and Magus stay X days in the Reptite 1005 AD before returning to Prehistory. When they change the timeline, versions of Crono, Glenn and Magus still emerge in 1005 AD due to TTI, but they fade from existence after X days. This is due to the concept of Time Bastard that the Compendium deduced from CT (Melchior and Janus) and CC (Ideal Timeline Serge):

http://www.chronocompendium.com/Term/Time_Bastard.html

Basically, the "duplicate" versions of Crono, Glenn and Magus aren't duplicates at all, they're just the past versions of Crono, Glenn and Magus ("past" in the sense that they are X days younger than the player's version of them).

You might think it's odd that some versions of them spent X days out there before disappearing, but it happens more often than you think in CT and CC. For instance the player's Crono grew up in a world in which there was no Fiona Forest, but there's also a "duplicate" version of Crono who grew up in a world in which there WAS a Fiona Forest. Crono's Mom lived with this "duplicate" version, but he disappears in 1000 AD and the one that returns is the player's version, not him. Kinda creepy, eh?

There was a lot of interesting discussions on alternative concepts in the recent months; I don't know if they're "better" than the current concepts (I haven't had the time to read them yet), but CE is based on these TTI and TB.

EDIT: lol Acacia Sgt and IAmSerge beat me to it pretty well.

Looks great. It's unclear whether Magil had pointy or round ears. In the Sunflower scenario, Serge knocks his mask off and describes his blue eyes and fair face but says nothing particular about the ears. It's not the main scenario, but nothing suggests that Kid isn't Schala and Magil isn't Magus in it, so it's up to your decision I guess.

In CE, Belthasar saved a few scientists from the fall of Zeal to serve in Chronopolis. He also recruited a few trustful scientists from the mainland but the Central Regime is unaware of it.

Anyway, if that's what you were referring to ZealKnight, just note how CE's Chronopolis has a different architecture than CC's Chronopolis...That is all I will say ;)

ZealKnight, I'm not sure you understand TTI correctly. TTI is the idea that once you've time traveled somewhere, you'll always emerge from the Gate you used, regardless of the changes at the destination.

CGM, Sorin and the Xamoltan are the only ones that remember the Reptite timeline because they're the only ones that time traveled TO and OUT of it after seeing it. CGM were in Prehistory, they were sent to 1005 AD, they returned to Prehistory, and finally they prevented the resurrection of the Reptites. They'll always remember what they saw because they went there and went back.

On the other hand, Marle (for instance) was in Prehistory, she was sent to 1 AD, and that's it. She died there. She didn't time travel OUT of it. When CGM prevented the Reptite timeline, the Marle that was in Prehistory still emerged of a Gate in 1 AD, but since the timeline was different she experienced different events. What's important is that she's the Marle that was in Prehistory. She's not the Marle that was in a prison in the Reptite timeline. It's not like the prison suddently disappeared around her and the frail Cedric suddenly had a shiny gold armor materialize on his rags.

And C99 you said that the reason for mechanical tech in Dinopolis would be explain, is it still coming?

It was all explained. In Prehistory, the Dragon Tooth, which was made of bones of fallen Reptites, was sent by King Zeal's Frozen Flame to 3 million BC, where the Frozen Flame of that era used it to resurrect the Reptites.* So in a way these new Reptites were created by the Frozen Flame, just like the modern humans were "created" by it (though in their case it's more like "evolved"). These Reptites always thought humans were a corrupted species disconnected with nature, but by 2305 AD they discovered that they suffered the very same corruption, which is why they tried to build the Vision Serpent that would reconnect them with nature.

Uhm, I just realised this didn't Chronopolis say that Zeal didn't exist or it may not have existed, yet  Belthazar used people from Zeal in this place?

Mmh, I'm not sure what you're referring to?

(*I was inspired by this by the way: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dragon%27s_teeth_(mythology). Zeality came up with the name Carmine Genesis, a pretty awesome name as always.)

I guess these guys and gal slipped the CE Team's mind when you were writing the story
I pointed out King Guardia XXI's TTI status twice during development. The first time was when the plot element was introduced. I guess maybe they thought it would hurt the "strain from nobody remembering him" element.

The first time I just assumed the final dialogue wasn't inserted yet, and the second time I think I wasn't here to see how the plot outline was being implemented.

Native French, English as a second language. I also have some knowledge of Spanish, enough to get the basic meaning of a text or speech but not enough to formulate my own complex sentences.

I did a bit of Latin too, but gave up after middle school

I complained a bit when that part about the Dragon Tooth was introduced, mostly over how Chronopolis 's ability to detect temporal stuff. (Back when Chrono'99 first revised the plot, he said that Belthasar would have to rely on historical records.) I think C99 didn't like the Dragon tooth retrieval because it would require another time egg usage.

Yeah, Time Eggs were very rare in the 3 other games and apparently very difficult to make. In CC Lucca never managed to build complete ones, and Belthasar's pink hollow egg may or may not have been complete. On the other hand we use a LOT of Time Eggs in CE.

Another issue is that Sorin blew up the Dragon Tooth, to prevent the Frozen Flame from using it to recreate Reptites. A destroyed Dragon Tooth can't really be useful as a power source. I guess we could assume that the Chronopolis scientists repair it, but it's not obvious in the dialogue.

Yet another issue, if you go back to the initial point (Chronopolis's need to replace their Dreamstone with another power source), is that it would have been much more simple to simply get the Sun Stone instead. We could assume that the Sun Stone's radiant signature is incompatible with the Chronopolis cloaking device or something, but again, it's not obvious. The Stone does get a plot point later on in the game though.

So yeah, this Dragon Tooth weak spot is kinda my fault. It's right the middle of the game so I guess it fell under my radar during the plot revisions, compared to earlier and later events.

The following characters gained TTI but weren't accounted for: King Guardia XXI (600s King Guardia), Doan, and optionally, Chrono's mom, Gina. I guess these guys and gal slipped the CE Team's mind when you were writing the story, but if you'd remembered these characters gained TTI, what would you'd have done with them. Also, will we be seeing Norstein Bekkler, Doan, and the rest of the world of the year 2305 in the future?

Eh, you're right. The biggest of these minor issues is King Guardia XXI I think. Gina's lack of TTI can be explained if the party crashed the Epoch on Lavos, and Doan doesn't appear in the game (we were limited by tilesets in the future era).
