Polling / Re: Rate the Chrono Trigger Characters- 2009 edition
« on: September 17, 2009, 07:01:57 am »
1. Ayla
Great quotes, fun personality, great attacker/healer/thief, her character has a great spirit (hate to mention CE again here, but they portrayed this greatly in her Frozen Flame scene), she doesn't need a super-tragic story to kick ass, she's just what makes the game lively without pulling the cute airhead card (I'm looking at you, Marle).

2. Magus
He's the one with the dramatic story, haha. I'll resume it saying that he represents all the story of Zeal, PLUS the story of  600 AD, there is just so much Chronoverse condensed in this character. He's not in number one because he has no boobs. I've said it, that's how it is. He's in Radical Dreamers, so extra points too!

3. Lucca
Actually, this is a little biased, I love the whole mythology of her character in the Chrono Cross world, it's HUEG. She inspired both Radical Dreamers and Magical Dreamers, she has passion, and at the same time she's a genius that gets to do great things with the timeline, starting from creating the Gatekey to taking part in bigger problems, until her meeting with Lynx.

4. Frog
Frog to Marle: "You've lost your friend before your very eyes, there are no words to comfort you.", he's the little boy who grew to be a brave valiant knight, without becoming a douchebag, AND he has a strong straightforward personality, calling Magus a pale-faced bastard and all. He likes to show around (victory pose, yeah!) but somehow keeps a humble air on him. His story with Cyrus was pretty well done, usually has good things to say when you have him in party.

5. Marle
A little airhead-ish character, specially in the japanese version, but holds something good in her. Very dramadramadrama scenes, and the love interest of the main character, she's often trying to show that she's more than a pampered girl, so that's nice.

6. Robo
You turn him on, he tags along, develops feelings, friendship, love, baww, etc, cool story bro. Actually his duel with Atropos is awesome, and he also has some mythology in Chrono Cross.

7. Crono
COME ON!! He doesn't even CHOOSE to save the world, Marle and Lucca just pussywhip him around and he just says "do_ó!!", he's the epicenter of the story, but never really the center.

General Discussion / Re: Pictures Thread

I'll wait until I'm a little more active in the community to post my face, in the meanwhile, I'll show my pussy.

Her pussy is so wild and crazy that originally we were gonna call her Ayla. I'd know.

Characters, Plot, and Themes / Re: Does Gaspar Age?
« on: August 31, 2009, 05:39:25 am »
I wouldn't read the end of time literally, like... the end of time, no more seconds allowed!

Bur rather as the "farthest reaches of time", where things end up when space-time continuum bugs. That's right, it's the freaking blue screen of time.

34
Simple. Terrorism for 1000 A.D. was everday bread for Frog in 600 A.D. :P middle ages was just a shitty place to live in.

Chrono / Gameplay Casual Discussion / Chrono Trigger DS OST, videos
« on: August 31, 2009, 04:32:14 am »
I'm not sure if this is the right place to post, or if this has been posted before, but I'll go ahead anyway. Please move my post if needed.

My girlfriend just recently purchased the recently released Chrono Trigger OST [DS Version], 3 discs and 1 bonus DVD, the release is really worth it. Sound is really clear and sweet. The bonus DVD has an orchestra version of the main theme, and a medley of various songs, hinting the possibility of an orchestral album.

Maybe this can motivate people to buy the album, we just uploaded these:

It's fun to see GOD Mitsuda as the mastermind supervising everything.

Oh also, are you guys still in need of tracklists? We could provide very detailed ones, including kanji.

Chrono Trigger DS Analysis / Re: the campfire scene.

Imagine you have Crono, Lucca, Marle and Robo in a group. You are in the end of time. Now imagine you push all 4 through any gate at the end of time... they would travel through time in the gate, but due to principles, the gate would send them back to the end of time... and they'd land in the same portal!

Infinte loop!

Characters, Plot, and Themes / Re: Dragon God Scene Retranslation(partial)

It seems usage of time and dimension is really messed up.

And thus the compendiumites finally cape up to a conclusion for the Chrono series. :)

And back to Magus II: He says "we've defeated..." in the english version but does he say that in the japanese version or something more like "he was defeated...".

This. Anyone that knows japanese could offer a translation of that japanese quote?

Kurono, Crono.

I guess that just slipped them.

Chrono and Co. defeat Lavos -> They return to the End of Time A new portal is there. They travel through the portal at Belthesar's request -> CTDS New Content -> They encounter Dalton -> They fight and lose to the Devourer. Schala wipes their memory of the event. Future Magus either wipes his own memory completely, or Schala does it for him. -> Chrono and Co. return triumphant to the Millennial Fair. -> Magus leaves in search of Schala, becoming Future Magus at some point.

(By Belthasar you mean Gaspar, right?) I like the idea, it's not farfetched... but it would be weird having Gaspar question anything more... maybe he knew they couldn't do anything... or maybe the Dream Devourer also nibbled on Gaspar's thoughts? :P Geez, the Dream Devourer looks so freaking powerful... though I guess the Time Devourer is more dangerous eating entire timelines D:

Chrono Trigger DS Analysis / Re: Is Guile an amnesiac post-CTDS Magus?
« on: November 23, 2008, 10:03:20 pm »
I think that by the time that the split happened, the Dream Devourer would already had evolved to Time Devourer.

Guile faced the Time Devourer, not the Dream Devourer... I don't think that Eclipse Magus is from post-split or post-unification of dimensions, but from pre-split...

The fate of the party that faced the Dream Devourer is indeed very interesting... wait, is it really? What's more interesting is that the game doesn't make any focus on them, just on Eclipse Magus. It's very clear that they weren't interested in the party, but in Magus and Schala, who have been a mystery in the Chronoverse long before we even knew about the fall of Guardia.

I support that theory, and about those three areas, I don't know. Probably explored by party ''B'' too.

Yes yes, that's indeed the case. And do keep in mind that these distortions appeared after Lavos was killed by party "A", but it seems that the Time's Eclipse didn't quite appear until these distortions were all visited by party "B", from what I've read... is this correct? That's why I was pondering on the importance of the content of these distortions, all I've read is that Dalton is in one and the other one has shadowy clones of Crono, Lucca and Marle... mayhaps those "clones" hold certain relevance.

Ghosts of time maybe? Planet's Dreams? Just echoes or distortions themselves caused by Lavos' immense death? Did killing these ghosts caused the creation of Time's Eclipse, or was it already there? Many gameplay+story questions I still don't have clear 8)

Dark Serge: I know, but that hasn't stopped the Compendiumites to try it for years. :lee:

Chrono Trigger DS Analysis / Re: Is Guile an amnesiac post-CTDS Magus?

New theory:

- Party "A" from Dimension "A" beats Lavos, and you get the normal DS ending.

- Party "B" from Dimension "B" is seeking to beat Lavos, but since Lavos resides in a pocket dimension (pocket dimension theory is only stronger now thanks to having different dimension characters in CT DS), he was already killed by party "A", creating the Time's Eclipse.

- This would mean that "Eclipse Magus" (let's use that name) could actually be the original one from party "A" (the one that defeated Lavos and went back to 12,000 BC), but not "B" (the one in your party at the ending, who never defeated Lavos), or he could be from unknown C, D or E dimensions...

This would mean that in CT DS you play as party "A" all the game, but after finishing the game, you control party "B". And I guess we could call New Game+ characters C, D, etc...

This would make some sense in having the ending show the characters defeat Lavos, split, and have Guardia fall, but after that show another party seeking to fight Lavos... it is indeed still an alternative ending, and what do you need for an alternative ending? that's right! an alternative party!

The Time's Eclipse doesn't  open until you finish the 3 dungeon things, right? Anyone has any idea on what's the relevance of these? I haven't played till there, not enough time ;_;

Chrono Trigger DS Analysis / Re: Chrono Trigger DS - Reactions (Spoilers)
« on: November 23, 2008, 08:31:38 pm »
While I was one of the first persons to call Time's Eclipse Magus "Future Magus", I'm reclutant to do it now. He could be a future Magus, but not the future Magus from your party, due to gameplay mechanics: if you kill Magus, he stills appear at the ending, and Chrono Trigger is always very consistent showing in endings what you did in the game (Frog being human, Lara walking or not, etc), I elaborated on this on its own topic.

It did seem that Schala hid much sorrow inside, probably wanted to just erase everything from existance at some point in her life. But she would never show these feelings by herlself, I think that Lavos' influence for revenge and cosmic-devouring instinct also drove her to let such feelings out, succesfully showing a duality and a sharing of minds in the Dream Devourer.

45
Exactly. Gameplay wise it's after every party member goes to their respective timelines.

After the ending. After 1004 AD.

Gameplay wise 1000 AD time vortex dungeons are after 1004 AD ending FMVs D:

That's why I sustain that it didn't happen canonly. There wasn't time for it to happen. I'm with Boo and Faust.

Another possible explaining is what Acacia Sgt said, the post-ending character being Time Bastards suffering the consequences of Lavos being defeated by other dimensional party in his Pocket Dimension, opening the Time's Eclipse at the bucket... but this would make it so that after you finish the game for the first time, you're playing with a different dimension party, who, before even attempting to beat Lavos, had another party beat him before them.
