Chrono Compendium Discussion / Re-Translation suggestion
« on: March 01, 2008, 03:48:39 pm »
I was reading through part of the re-translation and got to the part talking about Great Ozzie.  In Japanese, Great Ozzie is named, "大魔王ビネガー" and the Re-translation calls him "Great Magus Vinnegar."

First of all, I understand that Magus' name in Japanese is 魔王.  That being said, that is not a name but more of a title.  魔王 literally means something along the lines of "Evil King" or "Dark Lord."  What I'm trying to get at is that the Re-translation should call Great Ozzie something more like "Great Dark Lord Vinnegar."

Other than that, the Re-translation looks really good.  I speak Japanese fluently and can mostly read it if it's at the video-game level (I wouldn't be able to translate interviews and such though  :(

General Discussion / Weird Items
« on: December 19, 2004, 07:19:18 pm »
I was playing the CT ROM using the savestates that ZeaLitY made, and I noticed 2 items in the items list that I'd never seen before.  one of them was called the Relic, and the other one I can't remember.  It didn't have a description or anything.  What do they do?

General Discussion / CT and SSBM
« on: December 09, 2004, 12:38:45 am »
For all you fellow Super Smash Bros. Melee fans:
Wouldn't Crono make a kickass character in SSBM?  I mean, they put in Roy as a character, so why not Crono?

PS:  For all you non-SSBM fans, you can complain about how I've wasted your time.

I've looked in many game walkthrus, boss faqs, and strategy guides but none of them have a really easy way of beating Son of Sun.  Here's the way that I beat it, which is quite easier than anything the gamefaqs walkthrus tell you to do.

First, hit it with any level 2 magic attack.  Wait for it to counter attack.  MAKE SURE THE FLAME THAT DOESN'T COUNTER ATTACK IS NOT ONE OF THE TWO FLAMES NEAREST TO YOU.  This only works if the flame is one of the three behind son of sun.  Now, use Magus' Blackhole, and suck the two nearest flames in.  Now, you're left with the three flames behind S.o.S, one of them being the target flame.  Now, hit the flame.  No matter how many times S.o.S does roulette shuffle, the flame will always be in the same position.  It really saves a lot of time.  Trust me.

PS-- in case there is someone who hasn't beaten S.o.S yet, you need to equip your party with Red mail, ruby armor, or red vests, or else you'll get pwned.

Chrono / Gameplay Casual Discussion / Safe Helm or Prism Helm?
« on: December 05, 2004, 06:17:51 pm »
I'm playing my emulator extensively right now, and I can't decide whether to equip everyone with Safe Helms or Prism Helms.  They're both really good helmets, each with its pros and cons.  So which one is ultimately better: the Safe helm or the Prism Helm? :?:

History, Locations, and Artifacts / Weird Tab location
« on: December 05, 2004, 06:00:26 pm »
I was screwing around with the CT emulator, and I was turning the different background layers on and off, when I found a weird tab location.  In Kajar, go to the upper right corner of the main big room.  There should be two bookshelves.  Now, disable background layer two.  If you wait for a second, you should see a tab glowing behind the bookshelves.  It's impossible to get to, though.  What do you guys think?

Sorry I couldn't post images to show you.  I have screenshots on my computer, but I can't post them here.

Time, Space, and Dimensions / Plausible way of saving Schala in CT
« on: November 18, 2004, 12:50:13 am »
I've been thinking about this for a long time, so please hear me out.  Now, assuming CC never happens, I have a theory about how the CT characters could have saved Schala.
First, Epoch needs to be safe.  After the people go to their respective time periods, Crono can use the Epoch to go find Magus (probably in 12000 BC).  Once he hooks up with Magus, they can go over to the End of Time, and get another Time Egg from Gaspar.  What they'd then need to do is go to 1999 AD, and stop themselves from defeating Lavos, to ensure that Lavos does indeed destroy the world.  Once they accomplish that, Crono and co. could find Nordstein Bekkler and get a Schala clone (they can ask Gaspar for his location).  Then, they can climb Death Peak again and revive Schala.  After all, she was extremely important in the history of the planet.
If you guys see anything blatently wrong with this, let me know.  My ideas have been crushed before, so I'm not scared or anything! :P

General Discussion / New Double and Triple Techs
« on: November 07, 2004, 06:21:54 pm »
If you could create your own double or triple tech in CT, what would it be?

For example:

Destruction

Crono: Luminaire
Lucca: Flare
Magus: Darkmatter

The three would cast their best spells, and do about 6000 damage to enemies. Since it is incredibly cheap, it costs 50 MP for everyone, even if they have gold studs.

Dark Frog

Frog: Frog Squash
Magus: Darkmatter

While Magus is casting Darkmatter, Frog stands in the middle of the two triangles.  He is charged up by the magic, morphs into a huge evil frog, and charges across the screen, giving everyone a lot of damage.

Chrono / Gameplay Casual Discussion / Ozzie's Pants
« on: November 03, 2004, 03:26:11 am »
I know that if you put on Ozzie's Pants, you start out with Confuse.  If you have other status protecting armor on, though (moon armor, prism dress, etc.), do you still start off with chaos? :?:

General Discussion / Chrono Trigger Resurrection
« on: November 03, 2004, 03:05:38 am »
It's such a shame that Square Enix told the guys remaking Chrono Trigger to stop!  I never really got the full story, so could someone help me catch up on that?

It doesn't really matter whether or not you save her legs.  The ending just becomes slightly different.

Time, Space, and Dimensions / Huge Chrono Trigger Paradox
« on: October 27, 2004, 02:55:53 am »
As I was playing CT the other day, I noticed that the game has a massive paradox.  Here goes:

Crono learns about Lavos in 2300 AD, after Lavos ravaged the land.  Later, he kills Lavos at 1999 AD, and the world is saved.  Presumably, 2300 AD is not destroyed, and is prosperous.  Here's the problem.  Now that the future is safe, when Crono goes there in the first place, he will not learn about Lavos, and therefore will not defeat him.  This, in turn, means that Lavos will destroy the Earth at 2300 AD.

I haven't played Chrono Cross, so if this is actually a stupid question, please let me know.
