Kajar Laboratories / Pitch Your Ideal Chrono Cross Remake
« on: May 24, 2020, 06:56:19 pm »
Pitch your ideal Chrono Cross Remake. Assuming Square Enix has decided to give Cross a similar treatment, but not necessarily with the same approach, and they hire you to run the project. What would you keep? What would you remove? What would you twist or rearrange? Would you tie it closer with Trigger, or sever those ties that already exist? Would you want to keep the 3d models or switch to sprites? This is not meant to antagonize die-hard fans of Cross who love it how it is, just meant to be a fun thought exercise and hopefully get some discussion going.

Mine isn't set in stone, but I would want fewer playable characters, but more personal moments with the ones that remain. I would want the story to be simplified a little and spread out more. Perhaps we could find out Lynx was Serge's father right before they switch bodies, and soon after find out he's controlled by FATE from Harle. That kind of thing.

I would want the battle system to take place on the map field like Trigger instead of it's own separate location, but I wouldn't necessarily change the mechanics of battle, except maybe separating consumable items out of the Element system.

I would want to change a few things to connect to Trigger more, like Miguel would be explicitly Crono and Guile would be named Magus or Janus. Glenn would be the descendant of Trigger's Glenn and would be like Glenn XIV. Character designs would be toned down, closer to Toriyama style, because with fewer of them, they wouldn't have to try as hard to stand out from each other. I'm sure there's more stuff I would want personally but I'll have to think on it more.

Do you agree or disagree? What's your pitch?

Submissions / Epoch Battle Redux
« on: January 31, 2016, 09:28:40 pm »
I'd like to resubmit this. I was going through some old files and found this scrolling shooter game I made in a class a few years ago on Game Maker 7. I called it Epoch Battle. You just use the arrow keys to move and the space bar to shoot. It had a few bugs from being made out of the class tutorial, I think I've fixed them all. Let me know if you experience anything funny. The only link to it was in this forum a few years ago to megaupload.com. Since that site's gone, it's been unobtainable until now.

Get it here: Download Epoch Battle

Welcome / Birthday / Seeya! Forum / Bekkler's Return...
« on: August 24, 2015, 07:30:58 pm »
Hey all,

It's been a while. Just wanted to pop in and say hi. I am sorry I've been gone for a long time, I used to be so active here. I see the site got a facelift in my absence!

Well, I hope to see some familiar faces and names (and new ones of course) and I may not be on nearly as often as I once was.

  I missed you guys.

Btw, I'm married now, my band is dead, and Chrono Shift lives. That is all.

News Submissions / Crimson Echoes on Cracked.Com
« on: October 07, 2013, 12:02:46 pm »
Hey all you fellow timekeepers! So it looks like Crimson Echoes has found some more life after death, this time in the form of a "journalistic" article on our favorite humor site, Cracked.Com! Coming in at list item number 4 (not a contest so everybody wins), there's a nice shout out about the game, a blurb about Squeenix's lame decision to CnD it, and a grain-of-salt jab at Chrono Cross. Check it out here*.

*Sorry to those looking to download the mod, there are no links leading to a download in the article.

Chrono News / Chrono Trigger Released on Android
« on: October 29, 2012, 08:03:25 pm »
Hey there Android users, GOOD NEWS!

Square Enix finally released Chrono Trigger on Android, presumably with the same script and extra content of the DS version, but with its own new touch screen controls (ported from its iOS version of course).

The big advantage to CT on Android over the DS? The price, of course. It's ten bucks. Read more in the article linked here, and purchase at google play, linked here.

Fan Fiction / Google Docs
« on: August 30, 2012, 11:41:19 pm »
This is a quick tutorial on how to set up a google doc on the cloud that you can link to and format to your desires for any fanfic or other writing purposes. It works a lot like OpenOffice or Microsoft Office except it's completely free, completely online, it constantly saves the document for you, makes backups easy, is always saved online instead of your computer, and you never need to download anything (though you can download a Google Doc in a format that can be used in other Office word processors)(Also it's a whole suite and has Excel-like and Powerpoint-like applications but I won't even get into those.)

https://docs.google.com/document/d/1QhYkBvsEzSFfMvMKM-y4S_EHJlt_0WwGCf3OU_oV7tI/edit

You set up a google account and go into google docs (recently renamed google drive), create a new document.
Paste your written text in, go to the very beginning and click "Insert"->"Table of Contents" and then "Insert"->"Page Break".
Then go through and wherever you have a chapter name listed, like say "Chapter 1 - Waking Life", you highlight that and click "Format"->"Paragraph Styles"->"Heading1"->"Apply Heading". This will apply a "Heading" style to that text and when you refresh the Table of Contents, all "Heading"s will show up in a sequential list.

To get the link to share the doc, click "Share" at the top right corner and change it so that anyone with the link can view it. If desired, you could also add specific email addresses for people to view or edit the doc, or a combination of all of these options. It's really up to you, and then when you save the option, the link is provided and pre-highlighted for you (thanks, good-guy-google).

The steps are all below, I created the doc linked above with a dummy temp google account to show how quick and easy it is. Feel free in fact to play with the one I provided in the link, because I set it so that anyone who has the link can edit the doc.

Chrono / Gameplay Casual Discussion / Your Favorite Chrono Moment
« on: August 08, 2012, 12:18:31 am »
What was your favorite moment in a Chrono game? Could be Trigger, Cross, Dreamers, Crimson Echoes, or any other fan game or fan fic or art or anything tangentially related to the Chronoverse.

For me: It's still probably the reveal that the small child Janus and Magus were one and the same. Blew my mind for the first time in a video game. Hell, for the first time in a story. It really got my gears turning, and while I identified with Frog more, and thought Crono was cooler, that moment with Magus was the first time I realized I was interested in the process of storytelling.

I thought this was kind of neat. Saw it on 9gag here: http://9gag.com/gag/4670184

Google image search here: https://www.google.com/search?sugexp=chrome,mod%3D8&q=Phyllodesmium%20poindimiei&um=1&ie=UTF-8&hl=en&tbm=isch&source=og&sa=N&tab=wi&ei=B0XzT7b7MMa22gWZnsDAAw&biw=1600&bih=799&sei=EkXzT9W3CsGs2gWljeDCAw

Really pretty creatures, they look to me like the Frozen Flame, so I thought it'd be nice to share.

Something that's rarely depicted in fanart or talked about in analysis, the "eyeballs" on the Frozen Flame

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5jBBnc7zoM8

In this clip, you see and hear them open with weird clicking noises and they roll forward like they've been sleeping.

So what's up with that? Are they eyeballs? Does it imply the Flame is supposed to be a face? Does it mean that it's not a piece of Lavos, necessarily? What do you guys and gals think?
