Chrono Trigger DS Analysis / Re: Strategy on beating... [SPOILERS!]
« on: January 26, 2009, 12:42:25 pm »
Against DD, there is no competition, the Apocalypse Arm is your best bet. Why? Because DD uses a ton of barriers throughout his different phases making normal physical attacks useless throughout much of the fight, and indeed there are times when any other attack would do almost no damage (his phase transition can take as long as three whole rounds of attack to properly switch), plus DD counters. He LOVES to counter with his Chaos Zone attack (I can't remember, did they rename it for him?) which means Robo's health is going to be constantly fluctuating, making proper use of the Crisis Arm nearly impossible without gimping the other two party members. While you can still debate whether the Apocalypse Arm is better then the Crisis Arm, in this battle, there is no contest.

Chrono Trigger DS Analysis / Re: Most Memorable Boss Fight
« on: January 08, 2009, 10:39:00 pm »
I've have always been partial to Lavos Core. Mainly because, well, lets be honest here, who would possibly suspect the tiny little helper acorn of to the side to be the final boss. Blew my mind.

Heckran is the only one to ever give me any trouble. His health is huge, combined with his complete physical defense and the fact MP that early in the game gets eaten up faster then delicious pie, he becomes dangerous.

Again, MSNBC, that's like Spike having a video game award show. Oh wait, never mind.

Chrono Trigger DS Analysis / Re: Armageddon arm and a Dragon tear = fun
« on: January 02, 2009, 08:35:49 pm »
It's still a question of whether or not the upkeep of the Crisis Arm is worth it. Robo, being your main healer, would be the one devoting himself his own healing, which slaughters his damage output against either multiple or counter-attacking enemies, and even if you start draining your items, or bring along another healer, then your just slowing down someone else. Plus, Armageddon Arm is all purpose, it works through defenses, barriers, everything, there is no enemy (aside from Spekkio, Shadow, etc.) that it is not a viable tactic for. If only for it's low maintenance and versatility, I still give my vote for the Armageddon Arm.

Chrono / Gameplay Casual Discussion / Re: Who won? Magus or Frog?
« on: December 27, 2008, 02:27:01 pm »
It's Frog. Wanna know why? Magus has hair. Lots of it. Notice the cape waving in the wind? Notice no hair waving in the wind? Therefore, Frog.

I know that it has already been linked, but this whole Magus discussion has been done to death, we can assume now that Magus is in fact Guile. Put simply, the new ending is a sort of revision, linking Magus to Guile with the amnesia. It seems somewhat odd that two incredibly similar characters would both have amnesia, one would allude to having "Dark Power" which the other most certainly has, and yet be completely different people.

Chrono Trigger DS Analysis / Re: A few ZXG questions...

For Dark Matter, just use Black Plates. Problem Solved. Best way to get a prize from the arena you want is to just pick the tier with fewest prizes that also offers the what your looking for, I'm too lazy to check myself as to which is best for Wallet, and as for Lavos, I suppose it would work.

Chrono Trigger DS Analysis / Re: Is Guile an amnesiac post-CTDS Magus?

You know I bet Crono is actually Leena and Serge's child from an alternate future sent back to the past to fight Lavos and set up the events for Kid to be born.

I mean, they never say he ISN'T.

Note the sarcasm.

I'm pretty the shadow is Dalton's. I suppose they look kinda similar, in a weird, only-in-shadow type of way.

This is apparently going to become bickering, so I'll just point out what sums up the RD Magus theory and leave it at that.

This thread is a black hole of over-analysis.

Eclipse Magus is post-Trigger Magus. Why should he be anything more? Kato is not out to confuse us even more than he has to.

Well, Robo definitely needs a spot. Heal Beam is essentially the best healing move in the game, healing at about 10 health per magic point, so you should be healing your entire party for almost half their health by that point. Then Uzi Punch is just destruction, using Crisis Arm it deals somewhere around 5600 damage, eclipsing just about every other solo attack in the game in sheer damage. Shock, if I'm not mistaken, has the second highest magic multiplier, right behind Luminare, and though hampered by Robo's less then stellar magic stat, still does more magic damage then Flare. Lastly, once you get Armageddon Arm, use it with Dragon's Tear to crank out some serious damage. Just make sure you gave him some Speed Capsules, and a few Magic Capsules.

Crono of course makes it in, Luminare being the most powerful spell in the game and Frenzy doing some more then ample damage. That and he's the main the character, you couldn't go without him, could you?

Lastly, Ayla. Before I would have said Magus, but now, with Angel's Tiara and Regal Dress (both of which are found in DV) she finally manages to beat the glass ceiling created by Haste Helm. Her Triple Kick does some pretty insane damage, Valor Crest adds a little bit of damage output, and Charm still holds its usefulness. Plus, Beast Toss with Crisis Arm Robo does some of the highest damage in the game. Of course, if you get her to level 99, then she more or less becomes another Armageddon Arm Robo, with no Capsules required!

If you really feel like it, bring along Magus instead of Ayla, I did. While Dark Matter is pretty bad, his Magic stat will keep him above even Crono for a while, and his new weapon actualy makes him pretty decent physically. Also, no capsules. Plus, he looks damn cool.

No, they are not obvious, but they also never pull stuff out of thin air. They never so much as hint that Magus is from RD time-line, so why then would that be the case?

Chrono Trigger DS Analysis / Re: Geno Dome Still the Best?

I always found the best method to be on Mt. Woe. As soon as you enter the third screen, 3 Blood Yoke and a Macabre attack you. One Target-All and they all go down, the fight is rather quick. The rewards are something like 22 TP and 1500 EXP, plus, each fight nets you an Ether, which makes the fight sustainable.

Edit: Apparently World of Warcraft has in fact altered my vocabulary. I shudder at the thought.
