I beleive what you said is used alot in Marvel Comics (a separate world, but nonetheless full of good theories) Unless a specific event in the past is changed, then the timestream continues. If the event changes, then the original timestrand is 'standed' in time, while the new timestream is taken.
If we take into account the fact that Ayla is the ancestor, then Ayla must have gotten pregnant. Since this specific event was never changed, and Ayla later returned to her timeline, then in the future, she gave birth to Marle's ancestor.

In no way does it say that he was demoralized due to Crono's help. Even if he had saved her himself, he probably would still be beating himself emotionally about the head. Only when you get the hero medal and fully construct the Masamune does he agree to leave his hole.

Lavos didn't create magic, he is a filter for it, as is Spekkio. Spekkio is also a filter, but as he is the anti-lavos, he helps wllingly channels and 'awakens' the power within the Travellers instead of magic being taken from it, as the Mammon Machine did with Lavos.

Maybe I missed it, but I beleive he was demoralized because he had allowed the queen to be taken.

It is my personal beleif that Spekkio is the Anti-Lavos. As Lavos was created (and to some beleif, magic was created) the 'balance of power' created Spekkio. As when Spekkio leaves in the ending of the return to EoT, I beleive that as Lavos is 'defeated' (temporarily at least), Spekkio is called back to wherever they both came from, and balance is given back to the world.

On-topic and not of my own design, the website corridors of time presented a grand solution.
Frog was apparently in no state to save the town. Whether or not he saved the Queen, he was a wreck.
From this, Magus probably won by all means. However, he went to Lavos, and from this he died due to the fact that he was not powerful enough.
Ozzie, (as incompetent as he is) let the empire fall apart, and he wisked himself back to his castle and brooded there.
