General Discussion / Any other Romance of the Three Kingdoms fans here?
« on: February 20, 2006, 06:54:20 am »
Yes! Yes ogodyes. I also thought I was the only one! *dramatic music swells* ...But seriously. I own Romance of three kingdoms 4(Wall of fire)I think, for the snes, and 6 for the ps1. It really feeds my need for micromanagement and long reaching goal oriented strategy. I seriously need to pick one of these up for the ps2 and start playing it.

Incidentally, how do these games keep getting brought over to the US? The only mention I've ever seen of the series was in a little blurb in EGM where they were listing the games they didn't have room to put in the magazine that month! I swear, someone must be playing them!

Oh also, have you ever played Nobunaga's ambition for the nes? Hardest. game. ever!

Characters, Plot, and Themes / How does she do it?

I hate to say it, but deus ex machina anyone? I can suspend my disbelief pretty good, but the whole thing with the computer did seem a little out of place. But for all we know it could have been extremely straight forward with bright pictures and simple instructions.

I'm about as hardcore a Chrono fan as they come, but I'm just too shy to make topics until I've been around for some time. I'd been to this site many times and looked though the encyclopedia, but just recently realized 'fomg forums!'

General Discussion / Top 10 RPGs of all time
« on: February 14, 2006, 01:41:31 am »
This may take awhile...

10.Xenogears - This game was wonderful. Great story line, diffrent combat system, and a mech battling mini game. What more could you ask for?

9.Secret of Evermore - I got secret of Evermore the same day I got Chrono Trigger. I remember that my dad bought both games for HIM, but I snuck into his room while he was at work and opened both games. I started to play Evermore first, and loved every moment of it.

8.Lunar:SSS - I'm afraid I didn't get to play this game until it was released on the PS1, but almost as soon as I picked it up it felt like I game I should have been playing for years. A wonderful, classic fantasy story with loveable characters.

7:FF4 - One of the first if not the first rpg I ever played. It had simple, intuitive combat, a gripping story, and many hours of gameplay. I'll never forget my cart getting wiped right after I beat the sandlion and weeping openly =(

6:FF8 - 8 was my favorite of the playstation final fantasies.
I loved the story and the characters so much. I know a lot of people complain about it, but personally I never had any trouble with the juntioning or the battle system. In fact I really liked it, which is no doubt due to my love of micro manegment.]

5:Star ocean TTS - If the list was a ranking of how many times I've played a game So2 would likely be number three on this list. I've played it at least 6 times, and I'm sure I'll play it again. This is one of the most underrated games on the ps1, and I highly recommend it.

4:Chrono Cross - What can I say? CT sequal=love. The sheer amount of strategy needed for battles and planning, and the dizzing amount of characters made this a one of a kind gaming experiance. I've only played it twice, but I'm sure it has a lot of gameplay left in it.

3:Earthbound - How can you not love a game that has you digging for hamburgers in trashcans? This game used the idea of a modern RPG and made it work in spades. It had a great art style, and a sweet unforgettable story. One of the best ending evar!

2:FF6 - The game I've played over and over the second most. I love the story, the battle system, the characters, and the timeless the graphics. Everything about this game is perfection.
Intresting side note is I started using this handle after playing FF6 ^_^

1.Chrono Trigger -      I'm going to try very hard not to crazy fangirl here... *deep breath* All I can really say is that I spent much of my youth playing Chrono Trigger, so much so that my parents took it away from me fearing I was obsessed. I have to admit I was a bit icon_sweatdrop.gif I'm the only person I know who has gotten all level ** characters without cheating(at least until I came here). I'm not sure how many times I've played it (I've done a lot of new games and a whole lot of new game +'s), but I seem to remember my master save file having something like 63 Bike logs in it's inventory.

Honorable mentions:FF7,Lunar EB,Ogre battle, Illusion of Gaia, Lufia 2, FF tactics, ToS, FFX, FFV, Kartia, Secret of Mana and Kartia.

Ah crud, that was me.

I beat them pretty easy on my first new game +. I don't really remember what I did, but it wasn't too hard. Hmmm you know now that I think of it shouldn't they be stronger as well since it is a new game +?

Chrono / Gameplay Casual Discussion / What is your favorite Theme music?
« on: February 07, 2006, 09:46:55 pm »
I love Magus' theme <3 Schala's theme and Frog's theme come in a close second and third though.

10
CT: Um can I say Magus? I remember my first play through being just blown away by the music and presentation of Magus' castle, and the final fight with Magus himself. Other than that I remember Queen Zeal and her halation really kicking my butt a few times. Aesthetically I really liked Mother brain.

CC: Miguel was a great boss! He was so annoyingly hard @_@ Garai and the black dragon were cool too.

11
Hmm I couldn't tell you if it actually didn't work on my cart, or if it just happened to not work the very few times I ever bothered to use it. I'm almost tempted to go check.

General Discussion / How rude of me!

You know I didn't introduce myself either. Hi I'm Shiva, gamer girl and all around nerd. I'm 20 years old and a long time CT fanatic and Magus fangirl (the only video character I will ever admit to fangirling).

I've poked around the site before, but never actually joined because I'm kinda shy like that. I hope to be a semi active member of the community.

What a wonderful idea for a topic! And great analyses so far guys.
Okay I call Alfador and Crono’s cat(s). I’ve always held the belief that all cats are inherently true neutral. Sure you may get those funny ones every once in a while that you could swear are evil, but for the most part cats are simply utterly self serving creatures that don’t really care about things one way or the other unless it benefits them. If that’s not the definition of true neutral I don’t know what is.

A side note: I always thought of the law vs chaos side to also represent a persons position on society as well. Lawful of course believes in a structured society with a system of laws and government, while chaotic is more of an every man for himself, elf poking berries up his nose in the woods sort of thing. Of course this starts to conflict when you look at someone like Frog(living in the woods poking berries up his nose) who most certainly adheres to order and law. Of course if he wasn’t in self imposed exile I’m sure he would rather be serving king and country and being the lawful good paladin that he is ^-^;  [/overthinking]

Characters, Plot, and Themes / secret of nu in frogs house?
« on: January 30, 2006, 01:23:00 am »
Is all he says stop? Hmm I wonder what he means...Stop bothering him? Stop killing his froggy friends? Stop looking for significance where there is none? Hmm I wonder if the Nu is really a spy for the mystics, and he doesn't want you to find Frog because...plot..point...Oh I lost it.
