General Discussion / Re: Mythology
« on: April 24, 2010, 11:35:33 pm »
Norse mythology wasn't exactly good vs. evil, but it was "The Home Team vs. The Visitors."

A lot of mythology falls into that category, although it's generally presented as "gods from Heaven vs. gods from Earth," and generally the ones from Earth get horribly shafted.  Zeus and co. massacred the Titans, the Egyptian gods descended to rule as pharaohs, the far east pantheons conquered the earth spirits, etc.  The one main thing that does separate Norse myth from the others is that the Norse gods are fated to have revenge taken upon them in Ragnarok.  Of course, this wraps Norse mythology around Ragnarok like a vine, which does make for some epic and sometimes humorous tales.

Also, totally behind any American Gods hype.

Chrono / Gameplay Casual Discussion / Re: CT Speedrun question
« on: May 25, 2009, 12:08:34 am »
Inichi's run was made according to the standards of Speed Demos Archive.  Their policy is that NG+ is always a separate category from a regular speed run.  So if you see a time listed without NG+ attached, then it's a new game from scratch.  Hope that helps.

...you do realize SE already has names, addresses, and identities of the main creators of CE, right?  So even if you "go underground", if it shows up at any time on the internet, they can be prosecuted.  It's not like you can just re-become anonymous like this was a GTA game or something.

...bugger.  Just...bugger.

I really wanted to see the limits of what could be done with this game, and hell, most of that was tied to the fact that it was freaking Chrono Trigger.

Nothing else to say that hasn't been said over and over.

~8Y8~ May Milady's harbingers bring you to peaceful rest, Crimson Echoes. ~8Y8~

Haste makes your turn come faster, even with ** speed.  Test it against Lavos II, you can see the difference.

Chrono Trigger DS Analysis / Re: A few ZXG questions...

One problem with that - since Crono's staying L1 due to the whole Zero Experience thing, I won't have access to anything above Tier 3 until after he dies.  Elemental armors are on the higher tiers.  Any other ideas?

My view of "Time Error" is a bit different than most people's.  I view it as another continuous time axis that underlies the normal time axis.  So, for instance, in this situation:

Marle travels back from 1000 AD, 0 TE to 600 AD, 0 TE.
Time and Time Error Progress.
Crono arrives in 600 AD at X TE, to watch Marle disappear, where X is the amount of time between Marle going through the Gate and vanishing.
However, it's at a later time and Time Error when Leene is supposed to die.  Let's call this Y.
Due to the nature of the Chronoverse, a potentiality is not automatically actualized.  Therefore, it's at Y when the future is rewritten and sent to the DBT.  A time traveler going to the future after Y TE would see the new future without Marle in it.
If Marle were to vanish at all, it would be at Y TE, regardless of her position on the time axis.  Then again, TTI says she shouldn't vanish.

Once again, I probably have some assumption utterly wrong though...

Chrono Trigger DS Analysis / A few ZXG questions...
« on: December 25, 2008, 03:54:39 pm »
This stuff's about the newly-possible Zero Experience Game, which I'm planning on doing.  But there are a few things on my mind.

1) The arena wallets.  I've been grinding with my Bladesman forever.  Anybody have an idea whether a particular enemy drops them more often?
2) Magus.  How do you survive Dark Matter?  Obviously, Robo's the only one with a decent amount of HP, but his MDef is crap, and if I go the barrier route, I don't know if I can get off enough damage within two barriers.
3) Arena capsule grinding.  In the main game up to DD, I'm not going to do it.  But it brings up an interesting conundrum.  If I'm capable of casting Lifeline, and have my capsules full, could it be possible to defeat the shell Lavos in the Ocean Palace?  (Lavos II is still too damn fast, and I ain't getting Haste Helms until Tier 5 or so.)

9
Then again Marle could have been taken to the end of time due to Leene's likely death coming up.

Time Error says no.  If Leene had in fact died, then maybe you would have a point of a sort.  But until things actually happen, they don't affect the timeline.  This is the most irritating part of the paradox.

General Discussion / Re: The Chrono Compendium - <you fill the slogan>

The Chrono Compendium - A temporal discontinuity approaches!

The Chrono Compendium - All who fear the night and stand against the darkness...ZA WARUDO!

The Chrono Compendium - You will now forfeit your life.

11
...I think I see where I went wrong.  It took until I tried to graph it out for me to finally get what was going on.  I ended up with this.

Of course, there are inaccuracies.  The DBT isn't on the timeline itself, for one.  But it does seem to explain the timeline crossing going on.

12
You can't apply TTI to Magus unilaterally.  If he has it, Crono and his party have it as well.

13
Lavos being sent to the DBT isn't the problem.  It's how the Chrono Trigger team / Eclipse Magus (and to a lesser extent, Serge) get there that is.

Here's how I see it:

If going to the DBT of one's own will counts as time travel, time travel laws apply.  This includes Time Traveler's Immunity and Time Bastard, of course.  Since the CT team are the ones gating in and interfering with the battle between EM and the Dream Devourer, they're the ones covered by TTI in this situation.  This leaves Time Bastard to work on Magus, set at a Time Error clearly before he becomes EM.  So Eclipse Magus gets erased from existence before he can even fight DD.  And thus, the scenario as played in CTDS becomes impossible.  The EM/DD fight may still have happened, but there's no way that Crono et al. saw it.

If going to the DBT of one's own will does NOT count as time travel, however, the new ending can stay intact, just with the damn stupid "Schala erased their memory" excuse.

Of course, there's also the possibility that I screwed up and am applying Time Bastard wrong.  If I am, I'd really like to know about it before I make an even bigger fool of myself.

14
Well, the whole reason I asked is because if it does count as time travel, Time Bastard gets invoked, and kinda makes the whole trip impossible.  I know, I know, theories should fit evidence, not the other way around, but still, the mere presence of EM...

In terms of Magic, all those cards besides Lucca and possibly Robo are quite overpowered.  In terms of CT...well done, whomever!

But it can't be complete without...

I don't like the Future Sight cardstyle myself, but it just seems to fit Lavos better.
