I'm sorry... I should have been here. I hope my absence wasn't a factor in your decision...

I think you freakin rule, and I hope everything is okay... it was truly an honor to work with you, if only for what was probably a few weeks. Stay well and please keep in touch.

Good luck with everything.

Hi eveybody...

I'm sorry to have worried everyone with my absence... things have been really crappy the last few months, and I should have posted something before now. Suffice it to say that summer was not at all good, and now I'm back working my butt off in school. I haven't had a chance to run through all the forum posts as of yet, but one did catch my eye... Kyronea quitting. I'm sad to see it, and I'm not going to pry. I just wanted to say that you did a really good job, and I truly enjoyed talking with you about this project. I hope things in your life are going okay... but essentially, I'm sorry that you've decided to leave the project, and I'm sorry I wasn't even around when you decided to.

Needless to say, I'm really, really busy now, and it would seem we're not sure as of now how we can put midi files into this hack... but I'm attempting to devote some time every week to composing, and if anything I write fits the song styles that you need, I will be posting them. Assuming the project is still going to continue (like I said, I haven't had a chance to check the status of the project yet). Again, I'm really sorry, but things have been really crappy.

I'll do my best to be here more. I hope everyone else is doing well.

I'm really glad you liked my song... I'll get to work on these new ones as soon as I can. I got in a car accident Sunday morning, so things are a bit hectic. I'll keep in touch.

By the way, how long has this CT+ thread been here? There's so much information! You guys are doing an amazing job.

I actually don't think Glenn should look different in his flashbacks... That was probably a period where he would have a more short-haired appearence, if that makes sense. It just kind of makes sense that his hair would be long after being changed back to human form later in the game, because he never had any hair to cut while he was a frog. Know what i mean?

Alright this isn't a bug so much as my own stupidity.  I got to 2,300 A.D. and after I fight the robot in Arris dome I have to put in the code L R than A. On my Rom thats like A Z and D but it doesn't work >.< my rom is Snes9x do I need a different one?

I think I recall Zakyrus saying in the other thread that the code was being changed in this version... I haven't been able to play in a while, so I'm not in the future yet and can't confirm this. You're sure that's the code you're supposed to put in this time?

I do have a question, though: how difficult will it be to alter it so that it can play continuously without the end it has, as it will need to for use in Chrono Trigger +. (I can see a couple places where this theme in specific can be used, for instance.)

Oh, well if I get accepted and all, it'll be no problem for me to make it loopable. This is just a sample, after all.

EDIT: It wasn't really even for the hack or anything, but if you and Zakyrus think it'll be appropriate for some of the new locales, I'd of course be honored to polish it up.

EDITSU: ...Holy banana beans! That gets an instant thumbs up from me, Glenn! As far as I'm concerned, you're hired! Of course...Zakkie will need to make the final judgement...

*blushes* Thank you very much.

That's really weird that you can't play it... do other midi files play for you? If they do, then it must have something to do with the MIDI I made, and I can try some other stuff to fix that. If you can't get any MIDI working, it could be your sound card? While I can't even imagine a sound card unable to handle MIDI, I guess it's possible. You should check for driver updates, or something.

But yeah, if other MIDI files are working for you I can try sending you the file myself, or saving it to another MIDI type.

Majutsuko, FalconHit, unknoun_prophet (assuming you did enjoy it), and Azure, thank you for enjoying the song. It was fun to make :)

Any more comments are more than welcome, and if anyone else has problems playing the file let me know. But try playing it in winamp or something first.... it really should work...

Well, it's been exactly one week...  feels like it flew by. I had a lot of work to do, but as promised I have a sample song. It's not as cheery as you guys asked for, but I tried to at least make it cool (to make up for the not following directions). Let me know what you think. I know it's very simple, and not very long, but that's what I was going for. Feedback appreciated.

Hopefully the levels and instruments will all be good for everyone, since it's a midi I can't guarantee you'll be hearing exactly what I heard making it. Hope you like it!

By the way, Dance, I was wondering if you could compose something to show the quality of your work. (If you have something already composed that would work, though I would like multiple examples, preferably with different styles so I can make sure you're versitile.) It doesn't need to be complicated...say...a light, happy theme befitting your average day of hiking with your friends or something thereof.

Haha, 'Dance'? Oh jeez... Frog will do :P (actually, quote aside, Glenn is good. Assuming we're not calling anyone else Glenn in the forum right now)

anyhoo, I had no MIDI software on my linux system (BECAUSE IT'S ALL NOT VERY GOOD), but you inspired me to try for the millionth time to try and run my old windows software through wine. And it worked! Yay! So I am writing some music for your listening pleaseure right now. I have some old stuff as well, but a lot of it is ideas for my metal band. Which isn't really appropriate for this.

But yes, thank you for putting me in the position where I tried that again. Now i can go back to writing all the time! Super duper!!!!

EDIT: I'm going to try and keep this on the simple side, but just in case I get bogged down with work I just wanted to say it shouldn't take me any longer than a week to get this done. I'll do my best!

I was just playing the hack and thinking (still not at Glenn, but I'm about to go into the cathedral). I suddenly thought how funny it would be if Glenn spoke old english in your hack until he became human again (assuming that does make it into the final release), and suddenly he starts talking all normal. Then I imagine he'd say something like, "Oh man, thank you so much! Magus cursed me to be half man, half frog... and speak like a Shakespearean actor! What a freak, huh?"

I don't know. Don't put that in or anything. I'm just being a freak :P

In some ways, you're correct, but I just prefer to think of him as someone who, despite his position in life, keeps himself respectful and all that. Perhaps in private he might succomb to such crudity, but it doesn't fit him as much as one might think. After all, would you go around shouting profanity if you were the Queen's bodyguard, for example?

I haven't gotten as far as Glenn yet, but from what you're saying I'd actually agree with you. Which is weird, because I'm very particular about him... even though I knew that it was weird and totally random that he was the only one speaking "Shakespearean" English in the game, I've always found it to be cool. But I can totally see where you're coming from, and I think him both being a badass and a respectful guy really fits the way I myself have seen the character anyway. Maybe it's just me having seen his human sprites and thinking about what a badass he is, but then again...

A looooooong time ago, I wrote a short story about Glenn, as a sort of spin-off alternate reality kind of thing. In my story, Glenn went on a quest to desroy Magus, meeting with another warrior (a Chrono-like character) to help him in his quest. It dealt a lot with how he felt after growing up always being scared, and dealing with Cyrus' death. Glenn didn't speak old-english in my story... he instead was much like you described. Growing up timid would definitely make a person very respectful to friends and powerful figures, but at the same time going through a trajedy of such a huge scope can do crazy things to a person... hence the sort of badass attitude.

Sorry about the rant... I'm just very interested now to see how you portray my favorite character... this is getting cooler by the post.

Actually, I would agree with FalconHit on changing Gato's lines... it is kind of weird that that was changed, even if it is more faithful to the japanese version. If only there was some way to rhyme 'strong' with 'points'...

Making a hack like this must be really hard when it comes to the new script... especially now that the retranslation is out there. It's going to be hard to please everyone. My personal opinion is that the majority of the new script should be based on the american version, including character names. I'm just attatched to the characters with the names they have (even Gato!). For me, the real tipping point in writing a new script would be where the american version changed a line so much that it skews the original intent of that line. In that case, I would opt for a new version of the japanese line instead. That may not be the majority view, but I think that it makes a great deal of sense.

But yeah, in my opinion, Gato's old lines were at the very least more nostalgic. And they do rhyme. Take that as you will.

EDIT: This is not meant to show that I prefer the english translation of Chrono Trigger, as I'm definitely pumped that we have the japanese script all translated and nice. However, I do see it more as reference than a "be-all, end-all" kind of thing. Like I said, it's my opinion that the script should be looked at for information that was lost in translation. In the end, however, it will have weird, unnecessary lines that could potentially be lost on people who just want to play an expanded version of their favorite game. I've always found the american translation to be charming, and I'd like to see that remain in the final product of this hack.

EDIT 2: FalconHit, welcome to the forums!

I got the demo patched! Yay! Now I just have to deal with Zsnes sound on linux sounding like crap until they rework the sound. I can manage.

I like the little expansion of the fair, I actually didn't see it and stumbled upon it by accident. I saw the path and said to myself, "have I missed this in earlier playthroughs?" So yeah, that was seamless for me. You're doing a good job, Zakyrus! The reworking of the script was a little weird in parts, but I've already seen the revision after it, so I'm not really worried about that at all.

This is exciting! I don't play a lot of hacks... the only two I really love are Super Metroid Redesign (AMAZING) and FuSoYa's Demo World (SMW hack, also incredible). I can already tell this is going to be another amazing achievement... possibly one I can help out with, if you guys do end up needing me, musically or otherwise. Thanks for starting something I can really get excited about, keep it up!

I took the level of profanity straight from the Japanese version, more or less, with my own little extra bit thrown in.

...that said, it is definitely possible I overcompensated for the complete lack of it in appropriate places in the original North American translation.

When the Mega Man X Collection came out for ps2, I bought it right away. I'm a huge fan of the series. The games all seemed to be perfect ports, more or less... the one thing that I'll always remember is that for some reason, they added a "damn" into one of X's lines in the beginning of the first game. Whether it was put in from the Japanese translation or... for kicks, or something, I've always seen it as one of the strangest and least-necessary uses of a swear, ever. All it did was make it sound cheesy, and actually less emotional.

That doesn't necessarily apply here, but it's definitely something to keep in mind. People cursing can flesh out a character, make them edgy or just more human... but it's not always necessary (even if the Japanese translation says it should be there). I have complete confidence that you'll use your best judgement in those situations.

Also, I know how it is to accidently make someone feel not-so-hot, mystic frog... whether it was a big deal or not, I'd just like to say I'm sure no ill will was meant. We're all friends here. *sunshine*
