General Discussion / Favorite Place in an RPG
« on: March 13, 2004, 03:21:06 am »
I'm not sure where I'd love to be in all the RPG's I've played.  So, to make it simple, I'll go with the world of Myst (from the original game, mind you,) so that I can just write my own worlds to go to.

Chrono / Gameplay Casual Discussion / Why analyze so deeply?

Only thing I'll say in response to this topic:

Why do we over-analyize?  Because we can!  :D

Lavos, the Planet, and other Entities / Four Lavos Questions

Well, who said it would?  If you were a being that used planets as a food source, would you worry too terribly much about one lone mortal being?  I wouldn't.

Time, Space, and Dimensions / Marle's Great^12-Grandmother Paradox
« on: January 10, 2004, 01:42:45 am »
Quote from: Igloo Bob
While this is never used anywhere else in the game, I believe it has no need to be.

Well, that's kinda the point.  In order to obtain anything even resembling the "truth" behind the Chrono Universe, we must do so based on the weight of evidence.  The game shows that Chrono and Co. are unaffected by the changes to the timeline, except the one case: The Marle Paradox.  As such, we can only determine that this is the way that the world works, and that the Marle Paradox was a freak occurance.

EDIT:

Zeality, JustinS1985, and myself were having a discussion, and this thread popped up.  Here's the text:

Quote from: Chat
JustinS1985: I've got a question bout the marle paradox
JustinS1985: why would she dissapear before the queen was killed?
JustinS1985: shouldn't she only dissapear after her ancestor was killed if the grandfather paradox was being applied
Aitrus Colso: Because she was never found, and if Marle hadn't dissapeared, then the Queen would've most certainly died
xJPGIIx: Oh, this is more evidence for the Entity detaining theory
xJPGIIx: It's true that Leene is not yet dead...
xJPGIIx: The future is unwritten, and not predetermined.
Aitrus Colso: However, that begs the question of why Marle didn't disappear as soon as she was discovered in the mountains
JustinS1985: yeah
xJPGIIx: If Marle disappeared, it would mean that Leene is predetermined to die, and that the future is already written. Unfounded.
xJPGIIx: Thus, Entity seems even more logical
JustinS1985: the timing of her dissapearance was waaay too conveninet
Aitrus Colso: Exactly
Aitrus Colso: Since it couldn't have been a law of nature that would take her out at that time, then it must be some outside influence

If anything about the Grandfather Paradox is true, Marle would have dissappeared upon discovery, not when Crono sees her.  If you say that the "temporal inertia" theory is true, then it would be sheer coincidence that Crono was present then.  However, the odds of such a coincidence are so astronomical as to be impossible.  The Entity could cause the dissappearance whenever and wherever it chose, allowing for the "coincidence" to be nothing of the kind.  And in all honesty, that is probably the best resolution of the paradox we'll ever find.

Josh, read my fanfic on this site, "Crimson Tears."  I deal with that entire question of why Magus would be in El Nido and not participate in the adventure.

Anyway, on topic here, I sincerely doubt that would be Magus.  If Magus were intended to be in the scene, they would have made it much more obvious than a shadow in the corner.

Characters, Plot, and Themes / Did crono die when porre attacked
« on: December 23, 2003, 01:12:42 am »
Quote from: Guardian_of_Ages
The only event that changed between the end of CT and CC concerned El Nido, not Guardia, and so if they are dead in one dimension, they are certainly dead in the other.

That's non sequiter logic for multiple dimensions.  Whenever dimensions split, they are totally seperate, not just locally.  For example, in one dimension Porre invaded, while in the other they didn't.  Even if the non-invasion was the result of their defeat at the hands of the Dragoons, then that in and of itself would still alter Zenan.  In both cases, the Zenan continent is inevitably altered, and the events in one do not neccessarily happen in the other.

When universes split, they are completly seperate and isolated, with neither one having any bearing on the other.  In other words, if Crono died in one world, it wouldn't mean he did in the other as well.  It doesn't mean he didn't, but it is not required that he did.  And that doesn't even begin to answer the question of whether he did in the resulting unified world is a totally different one.

Magic, Elements, and Technology / Magic in CT and CC
« on: December 18, 2003, 12:43:15 am »
I like that line of thinking that GrayLensman used.  By saying that the elements from CC are akin to a "sub-layer" of the four CT types, the comparison can be made to Classical Physics and Quantum Physics, each one matching up to the magic types respectively.

Classical Physics is the general Newtonian physics, a description of the world as we see it presented to it.  A car is a perfect example of a classical object.  It will move when a force is applied, and will remain at rest when a force is not.  It has weight and mass, has inertia, and generally behaves like it should behave.

Quantum Physics, on the other hand, is an attempt to describe the world according to what little we know about the subatomic domain.  In the attempt, we find that the world is not such an orderly place as Classical descriptions would have us believe.  It contains such wierdness as the electron cloud (where an electron in an atom has no particular point where it is, but instead has a certain region where it is "probable" that it is) and the principle of particle-wave duality (which says that light is both a particle and a wave, exhibiting the properties of both).

Anyway, the comparison I draw is this:  Quantum Physics is more powerful that Classical Physics.  This is easily shown in the comparison of the power of a Nuclear bomb when compared to conventional bombs.  A nuke uses the power of the atom to destroy its target, while a conventional bomb uses Classical methods.  This is the most likely explanation for why Dinopolis was defeated by Chronopolis, even though both had gotten to a similar point in technology.

I'm on it.

Also, I'm just now getting to where I can work on that banner, so I'll be working on that over my Christmas vacation (which started today!), and hope to have something to you sometime in early January.
