A huge portion of the population is habitually on some sort of drug, be it over the counter, prescription medication, illegal, or the triple-vice of alcohol, caffeine and nicotine. Several hundred thousand people die a year due to "minor" side effects of prescription drugs alone.
Most don't regret it. It's human nature. Like I said drugs have become mainstream.
I wonder what could truly shock a parent nowadays? Telling them you want to become a monk, take a vow of silence, and move to Nepal maybe?
