General Discussion / Re: Stuff you hate

 :picardno

I hate how Hollywood is doing a live-action remake of Akira. The following changes have been made, which I type out as if thumbtacks were protruding from each individual key that I press:

1.  They're moving the setting from Tokyo to New York City.
2.  They're making it an all-white cast.
    a.  Tetsuo is now Travis, Kaneda is now Kevin and Akira... who knows?
3.  The only animation in the movie is of the CGI variety.
4.  They'll be young adults instead of teenagers
5.  It's going to be about 9/11 instead of post-apocalyptic living.
6.  It's going to be a two-parter.

It's almost as if their current trend is to make as many failed Asian-to-white adaptations as possible. Well, here's what I say:

Screw you, Hollywood!!

I don't know if it's a question of working harder, Kodo.

The article states that he has Asperger's Syndrome, so in a way, he's sort of like Rain Man; he'll absorb the information far more easily than someone who doesn't have it. Hard work's only got so much to do with it. On the other hand, there are those who can be masters of hard work...

...like this guy.  :lee:

But ultimately, it's what one does with all that information at the end of the day that counts. He's using it to challenge the Theory of Relativity that scientists have held in such high regard for over a century, so the Nobel Committee better keep their eyes on his work.

More power to the shattering of stereotypes of those on the Autistic Spectrum Disorder!!

Insane is right. Anyone who has ever seenA Clockwork Orange will know exactly what I'm talking about.

For your consideration.

Incidentally, I own a Blu-Ray copy of 2001: A Space Odyssey. *Sigh* To be overly optimistic of privatized space travel in the future.

Interesting? Oh, yes.

Informative? Depends on what information you seek after.

I personally recommend How to tell if your cat if plotting to kill you for all the Compendiumites who own cats.

I like to think that the fact that they keep re-releasing the games is a sign that they are still interested in the franchise, and thus in making new games, in near future. Maybe just a wishful thinking but...  :?

I don't think it's a sign that they're still interested in the franchise. Heck, interest may not even be part of the equation. If anything, it looks more like they're pulling in as much profit from what already exists of the franchise.

If they truly were still interested in the franchise, wouldn't they show something more of it than just re-releasing the same game on a different console/port? If this were the case, then I could argue that Nintendo is still interested in the "Mother" franchise.

This isn't to say that I'm cynical about all this. I just wish they'd actually show a more obvious commitment to the franchise.

I DON'T UNDERSTAND!!!

Me personally? I bet if such figurines were available on eBay, I'd probably score a couple for myself. More specifically, the ones with Magus doing awesome poses.

Wait! How about... a Crono figuring in the Luminaire stance with shining orb that brilliantly glows when you press a button?

Even in the midst of these natural disasters, we can always count on someone from the Chrono team to give relief to those afflicted by these happenings.

Go, Mistuda! :o (For lack of a "Praise" Nu)

8) Real images indeed, even though it LOOKS like it's from a movie. Happened at the protests at South Korea, I think. He looks so badass with that Superman pose, they call him Water Cannon Man!

I've been hunting for "Water Cannon Man" but found "Tank Man" instead. AWESOME: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9-nXT8lSnPQ

Wonder what would happen if the two teamed up? Oh, the possibilities...

I thought it was interesting, albeit not informative. Maybe this thread needs to be changed to "The interesting and/or informative links and resources thread."

Yep. I got a laugh out of it.

How much has William Blake been an influence in my life?

About as much influence as Big Bird and the Keebler Elf.

Sorry about that headache, Manly Man. Here's best wishes for you to conquer it.

General Discussion / Re: Today in Wisconsin, history is being made
« on: March 06, 2011, 05:43:00 pm »

Found this link and just wanted to know what people thought of it.

http://commentarama.blogspot.com/2011/02/public-sector-unions-partys-over.html

The statistics are a nice touch (if they are proven to be backed up by reputable sources).

It's the last sentence that merits a round of outside opinion:

Quote from: the above link
As long as unions earn more than the people who pay their salaries, as long as they work fewer hours and can’t be fired, and as long as they whine and protest the smallest reforms, the unions are risking political oblivion. Wisconsin was the first state to allow public employees to unionize, now it may be the first to ban them. . . and others will follow suit.

Personally, I've never been too favorable oy unions, mostly because of the horror stories I read about people working in unionized companies and about how unions can conspire with politicians to rip off taxpayers (and I don't think anybody is a fan of getting ripped off).

What says you?

Well, tracking it down will prove to be quite the archeological dig on the net.

On a related note, I did come across this expensive VHS (I nearly fainted at the price tag):
