Actually, there's anti-copying measures taken in the game, so until it's patched, it's impossible to get past the gate to 600AD; even if you do, the cathedral's organ doesn't open the door like it should.
Do DS emulators make use of savestates? If the ROM is of "expected" size, then all the game data may be there, and copyright protection takes the form of a few purposeful glitches. By hacking a savestate, we may be able to change what room the characters are supposed to be in when the game loads, thus bypassing the roadblocks.
They had an Extras Menu in the Playstation release, right? And how's the translation been so far?
But has anyone noticed how the SFX are a little strange?
They even removed "Good morning, Crono!" and replaced it with "Are you awake Crono" or whatever the hell. Lmao @ www.goodmorningcrono.com

For flashcart owners there are cheats, and patches to remove the anti-piracy measures.
Anyone interested in updating the CT DS encyclopedia page with everything contained herein and also the information presented in the last two updates (on the Arena of the Ages, Lost Sanctum, etc.)?
Pyt, if you've got a ton of free time, it's really not hard to type it out; I'm sure you've edited Wikipedia before, so you know how simple it is. I'm just too busy right now.
Though I'm sure it won't be as much of a "OMGWTF" moment as it was when I bought a sealed box Japanese Chrono Trigger for the Super Famicon here. XD
Jesus, how much did that cost you?
No! You mustn't go to Death Peak! Wouldn't make it very far, anyway... It has to be the right time, and... and it has to be them, or... or the way is shut! Yes, yes...
It was the Fiendlord Magus who gave life to the almighty Lavos to aid us. And once Lavos awakens from his long slumber, the human race is doomed.
The almighty Fiendlord delivered Lavos unto us long ago with his great magic.
I'm through. I can't take any more of this. The fishmen attack if I make even the slightest noise. If I knew things would be like this, I'd have taken the guillotine any day of the week. Think I'll go out with a good, loud scream- see how the soggy freaks like that!

In the extras menu, I noticed a brand new song or two plays in the background (but they aren't selectable in the jukebox-type feature).
I REALLY like the beastiary that shows the enemies, it lists every enemy's attack and techs and puts names to them.
This version trumps the psx version so badly in every way...
The graphics are perfect, the sound is better in places than the original.... I could go on and on... I am floored by job they did on this game for us.
There went Chrono Cross out the window. Not necessarily, this is a new game plus ending right?
I hear ya man...the speculation and anticipation is destroying me--and it's only been like five minutes--someone needs to let us know just what's going on...
Why was this boss shown already? I thought you had to have fought the enemy to see it in the bestiary...
Oh, let's not be hasty. It would please me to take the life of this little pearl. I do not fear the queen.
No need to jump to unnecessary conclusions. I'm currently rushing through the game to pick up the changes. And yes, Ozzie is still Ozzie, Slash is still Slash, etc. None of the boss names have been changed, so far.

uhhh... what about Flea? Why would you intentionally skip mentioning him?
My one fear with this release was that they would somehow end up completely messing up his true nature because of a poor translation, and what do I discover....
They actually included the FUCKING Time Devourer into the game!!
I sure hope to god this does not means what I think it means....
GOD!!
Why hasn't anyone found out more info on that pic yet!!??
Is it a matter of anyone not wanting further spoiling....?
Who is this 'mysterious' person who upped the pic, in the first place...?
The us verison should have English, French, Spanish on it, and maybe German, no word on if the Japanese text will be in it or not.
I'm doing some of the sidequests, cause it turned out I was a bit underpowered from rushing through everything.
Holy cow! (Forgive me, I'm too slow for following this thread, or this thread's like a gattling gun, but) Is it just me or did Justin's pic show the final boss as... The Time Devourer? o__O x_x
Now I understand. It lives on a planet for as long as possible, selecting the most desirable life forms, allowing them to advance and then harvesting their DNA. The young it gave birth to on Death Peak must have all of that DNA. Eventually they'll migrate to other planets, and repeat the cycle. It's a parasite! Sleeping within the Earth all this time, stealing all our progress! Impossible... You can't toy with an entire world and think I'll let you get away with it!
No, the Lost Sanctum seems completely optional to me. And I only did the side quests Rainbow Shell, Sunstone, Cyrus Ghost, and Guardia trial.
The Vortex contains major plot twists, that's why I'm sure you get it no matter what. I'm serious, canon is completely changed. I'm making a huge post on everything in there, and I will also transfer my save to my PC and make a video with a emulator, otherwise it's going to be too confusing.
Seriously, it's major. Keep checking, I'll reveal it soon.
Dalton: That's enough for today... But just you wait, Crono! This isn't over yet! I'll raise the greatest army the world has ever seen in Porre, and use it to wipe your pitiful little kingdom off the map. Heh heh heh... Ah hah hah hah hah!
Marle: You won't touch Guardia. Not if I have anything to say about it!
Dalton: Farewell!
Part of me thinks the fellas at Square read some of the theories here. :P
Yes, my friends! I was RIGHT!!!! The guy in the Fall of Guardia FMV is DALTON!!! AND DALTON IS BEHIND THE FALL OF GUARDIA!
I was so fucking shocked when I saw this scene. Dalton caused the Fall of Guardia and stole the Masamune. Holy fucking crap. I knew it! He was just to awesome to disappear like that!
UBER thanks for the gamesave guys! My level 99 Crono seems to have only 135 HP though, so beware -- the process of replacing the game save file may cause some slight corruption or something. I think that's the HP number I had Crono at on the fresh playthrough I was doing until the gamesave became available. Weird.
From the wiki: (not 100% reliable of course)
Upon completion of the game, a new ending referred to as the 'Dimensional Distortion' is unlocked. This is supposedly an entirely new dungeon that contains a new final boss.
As far as the new end boss and ending are concerned, I believe I saw a screen somewhere in which Gaspar explains the TD's nature -- a presence like, and yet unlike, Lavos. Dark Serge or shinrin, have either of you seen any such scene?
In the bestiary.
NO!!! SPOIL IT!!!NO don't!
So Magus loses his memory?
Oh snap. That may cause some problems.
And is the other Magus a version of Magus from the future? As in post-Chrono Trigger?
YEAH BABY, CC:DBT was right on the money!
...oh, wait, that just makes him Guile, eh? *frowns*
I'm getting a vid of every boss in the Dimensional Vortex, as long as you folks don't mind the quality and unsynced sound. Evil Crono is coming up next. I'm avoiding spoilers regarding the End Boss because I want to live it the first time freshly. I'll check if Shinrin posted a save though.
Anyone know where Dark Serge got his codes from? I'm using extremely creative methods to defeat these suckers (the characters are stuck at level 99 but have very low HP except Magus), and I fear they won't be good enough to defeat Uber Goddess Schala.
Is there anything anybody says that would explain why the TD is called Dream Devourer in Trigger but Time Devourer in Cross?
This is impossible. So Guile is reall Magus. Like I always though. But There are two Magus's. One is Guile and the other one if it's not dead should be Magil. Right?

you forget, CC and RD take place in different dimensions.
Apparently this Magus is different than the one in your party, since this is one from a dimension where Crono and Co never returned after the Prophet had Schala block the gate for them. (I didn't have Magus in my party so idk what happens when those 2 meet).
Don't know if this is true or not, but someone on GameFAQs said it was Magus from another dimension.

Edit 2- This was apparently copied from 4chan.
Well it was only supposed to be a CT port to begin with. Imo we should be glad that they at least added some new content instead of just porting it over. They could have done better, but I'm happy with this too.
Up to fighting the Black Tyranno now... has anyone killed the DD without cheats yet?
About those Chrono, Marle, and Lucca clones... I don't know what they are. But something of it reminds me of the Ghost Children in CC. On the other hand, they could purely boss fights put in just for the heck of it.
Looks like they're planning to stamp out Cross completely. I wonder why...What makes you think that. Clearly, they are leading into Chrono Cross, because the Dream Devourer wasn't "destroyed" and Magus looses his memory. The FMV of the wedding depict Lucca finding Kid, and the secret ending showing the fall of Guardia.
Is there also a new FMV ending? Or just the new ending with Magus?

Perhaps something new is shown on new game+ ? I'm guessing no one has gotten that far yet though.
yeah, forgot he couldn't time travel... that'd be sillyWell, how could he have time traveled? Unless the planet started opening gates again, OR he had use of the Epoch.
...well, I suppose he simply goes about on his search for Schala, not yet aware. Right now, a lot of people don't think 1000 AD's cast returns to 1000 AD for some reason and ask what sounds to me like an obvious question: what happens to them? Maybe they should be asking that of Party Magus...?
either
A: He goes back to 12,000whatever (seriously what is it? A thousand or a million? people keep saying different things) to pick up his cat and sit there for awhile until something happens and he can resume his search.
B: Same as above, but they are in fact NOT the same person at two different times
C: A moogle kidnaps him and gets him so drunk he takes his pants off and blows up a car.
D: He runs across a field and gets zapped to nothing by lightning, like in that movie Powder. Assume cutscene Magus is same as in B.
E. maggiekarp ends up drawing scenario C and we all die laughing.
Theory! Cross is being ported to the PSP 'cept the plot and characters are being revamped, and along with these Guile will be retcon'd into a more Magus-esque character, fitting in with Trigger DS's ending. The forest in question could be Shadow Forest, right? Although it could be anywhere, of course. That's what I said. And could be possible.
Maybe SE is going to make a remake od Chrono Cross for DS or PSP. With a possible link to this ending.
But who knows what is crossing in their minds right now after this.
My guess is he turned up somewhere around 1010 AD, then in the next 10 years he moves to El Nido, researching various enigmas. Eventually he meets Serge and his friends, and eventually helps them defeat the Time Devourer, after which he finally regains his memories.Yeah, but that's still strange Schale didn't recognize him, although he's wearing a mask.
It fits almost too perfectly for Guile not to be Magus now. But leaving open these questions, I have a feeling Square is still not done yet with the Chrono series.
Is there also a new FMV ending? Or just the new ending with Magus?
Just the ending with Magus
Perhaps something new is shown on new game+ ? I'm guessing no one has gotten that far yet though.
I doubt it, but it's possible I guess. I'll check it out some time
Suppose the amnesiac Magus is not the 2nd one, but he is in fact the one from your party? Therefore Schala was attempting to protect Magus from trying to go after the Devourer again, and at the same time nullifing the 2nd Magus' actions that we see.
Also, the 2nd Magus is clearly from the normal post-Trigger timeline. He goes off, finds a way to enter the Dimensional Vortex, and there we find him. Of course if the amnesiac Magus is the one from your party, then this changes his future, in that he wouldnt have gone after the Devourer, unlike the 2nd Magus. Sample timeline:
Ending of Trigger, Magus 1 and Future Magus goes off searching for Schala -> Future Magus goes into the Dimensional Vortex, where we find him -> Magus 1 Enters the Dimensional Vortex also -> Schala wipes Magus 1's memory -> Future Magus ceases to be, because Magus 1 would not enter the Dimensional Vortex, and therefore not have his memory wiped -> Magus 1 ditches his scythe, cuts off his ears, moves to El Nido and is Guile. (Yeah right.)
In short, although having Magus 1 be the one who loses his memory is interesting, it is way too problematic to work.
If it is, that means when they fight the DD, Chrono and Marle should already be married, Lucca should already have found baby Kid, and Glenn should already be human again and promoted to knight (or whatever he's promoted to in the ending FMV).I dont think its a stretch to say that the DD fight could take place immediately after the Lavos fight, but before they return.
But then, how does they learn about the DD? Ok, maybe Gaspar tells them. And then, how does Magus arrives there?wouldnt YOU be a little curious when a new portal opened at the EoT?
Isn't everyone overreacting to the "new ending"? For one, it's the last alternative ending. Should I remember you that there's also an ending where all the planet is Reptites? granted, there is a Reptite dimension, it illustrates another possibility... and this is exactly what the alternate Prophet/Magus says.Given that this ending is not earned in the same way as the others, and its accessible in a normal game, not a New Game+, I think the canonical status of this ending is hard to dispute.
I think the new ending doesn't follow a chronological event leading to Chrono Cross (eh, the party was wiped by the Dream Devourer, no Robo, no Lucca, no one alive), but does however illustrate an aspect of the Chrono Series through an alternate story, much like the Reptites ending does.
What I'm saying is that Chrono and the others didn't really got there to fight the Devourer, but it does illustrate that Magus did. And had his memory erased. The party being there is irrelevant. They never really faced the Devourer.
It doesn't. That could be hinting at where he is in Chrono Cross (ie - Guile) - but let's hope not. Let's hope it could instead be used for a new Chrono game secretly in the works!
But you know what, it fits quite perfectly into some of the fan games being worked on around here...
Guile ends up not being Magus. According to an interview (linked from here I think), Guile was INTENDED to be Magus but they ended up scrapping it due to time.
How is this possible? Does this take place before or after the Lavos-inner core battle?
Arc Impulse -> Frost Arc
wut.
Confuse is now Frenzy. Now that name makes sence for the attack.
Wonder Shot's damage now varies depending on play time rather than a random multiplication.
Hey, guys? I've gotten confused as to the final U.S. release date is. Isn't it tomorrow, November 25? Please reply ASAP.

There's only one language besides english in CTDS.. and that's French, and while the english script uses Crono, the French uses Chrono. :P
that's why you can name the characters up to 6 letters :D
There's only one language besides english in CTDS.. and that's FrenchI was wondering about the mention of "French translation" when I was looking in the scripts of CTDS JPN.

Yeah. According to Shinrin, the limit is expanded to 6 characters. The Japanese version is still stuck with 5.

Doesn't answer everything though. If I recall, in Chrono Cross, you can't rename Serge to Crono or Chrono or whatever.
When you try to hit Confirm you just hear an error sound and it won't leave the screen until you change it to something else and Confirm.
Chrono and Crono aren't possible for Serge. CHRONO is possible. There may be more, but I don't have the patience to try it all out. Anyway, some names aren't possible.
Hah, I heard Final Fantasy II PSP has the same problem, so Richard is renamed to Ricard, Frioniel is renamed to Firion, etc..
A doppel doll! That would do nicely.
The magician Norstein Bekkler could whip one up in the wink of an eye, if only he were here.
You've not heard of him, you say? Well, he loves festivals. Find a fair, and there, too, you shall almost certainly find Bekkler!

Wow, this thread should be picked through and made different threads for certain types of differences because this is a big fuckall bunch of random info as is...Anyways, I have no way of knowing (because I had stopped reading at page 8 as to not spoil my own playthrough too much), but here's a few new quotes I found interesting...Quote from: BelthasarA doppel doll! Apparently not only does it seem as though Bekkler is an immortal who Belthasar is aware of, but he's also a magician...I also don't know if this is similar to the Compendium Retranslation because I don't think I got that far in it *heh heh*...>_>Quote from: GasparThis is a battle between Lavos and the very planet itself!

This is why I love bringing Robo around (besides being an absolutely bitching powerhouse character)...He's always got fancy instruments to tell me fun stuff like the exact time of Lavos' eruption. This is when you bring him in the Epoch, btw.
Also, this was my first playthrough where I not only got everyone's Techs w/o whoring Nu (and before whoring Black Omens too), but I was also at level 60! wtf!? Lost Sanctum is nuts for leveling. Lavos lasted the 5~10 min of my old ** New Game+ run throughs...Crono, Lucca, Robo FTW!!
CTDS...I thought that was obvious, this being the CTDS differences thread...>_>
Wait, what do you mean by Japanese translation? I'm playing the Japanese ROM with the English language on if that's what you mean...is that different from the English ROM's translation somehow? Or did you mean was I personally translating the Japanese text itself? Because I'm definitely not doing that...And none of the quotes I gave was from Magus, so idk what you're talking about that quote for...>_>
EDIT: oh, i see what you meant, you were talking about utunnels' post...you just...didn't signify the change in who you were addressing at all...>_>
Can't just keep sitting here and not play Trigger, gonna look if my local gamestore has an imported US version.
Now, I just want to confirm one last thing: I want to be absolutely sure that I can name Crono Chrono in the US/English version. Please don't answer if you just heard it from someone else, but only if you actually have the game and tried it yourself.

In Ending No.11, Magus's lines are changed to:Ah man, I liked the original version better: If history is to change, let it change! If the world is to be destroyed, so be it! If my fate is to be destroyed...I must simply laugh!!
If I must vanish from existence to see this done,
then I shall welcome that fate!

The Dragon's Tear is a bad translation.
Dragon's Tear is a new accessory, but has nothing do with the Dragon Tear whatsoever.
It's possible that it's just the form of the Dragon Tear in that dimension...
How did Pierce (Earring) got mistranslated as Tear I don't know.
An earring made from a great wyrm's teardrop.
Most of the renaming, inclusions and changes are taking place in order to make "CT compatible with CC", and not the other way around.
Also, the tech called "Grand Dream" has been changed to "Master Mune".
lol, but that's strange they didn't translate Masamune to 'Grandleon' in CT officially.
Mune:
Huaaah...
You awake, Masa?
Masa:
Yeah...
But looking back...
I think we've done
something terrible.
Mune:
Heh heh...

OK then, let's go!

Or maybe they both have the same name and are totally unrelated. Just like how there are multiple people's with my name, and they aren't me. Or... uh... bad example, but you get what I mean. :D
So, does this means that the whole Dream Devourer thing is a 'post-game event'? It could make sense that way. Although, how would they get there I don't know.
Certainly it is troublesome to pinpoint when do the events of the new ending (and the vortex dungeons) happen, I figured that the whole Dream Devourer incident happens after the ending of the game since Marle, Lucca and Crono still have the Epoch and they have to go looking for Crono's mom, so maybe they went to the End of Time to gather their thoughts and ask Gaspar for advice, there they find about Time's Eclipse and decide to check it out, but if that was so why would the game let you use all of the party characters instead of only Crono, Marle and Lucca?Troublesome yes, important no. It clearly happens at some point after Lavos' defeat. The party still has the Epoch in the canon ending, so that accounts for their ability to go back to the End of Time. Whether it happens before or after the Millennial Fair return is unimportant.
...
Most troublesome to pinpoint indeed...
Evidently, someone either wanted to joke around, or simply forgot to change a filler line.
the French version did not use the retranslated English script as a base. I was quite suprised to see a "French Translation" credit when I finished the game, so I put my DS in French (also my mother tongue) to check out.
Masamune is Grandleon. Ozzie, Slash and Flea are Vinnie, Soya and Mayo.
I'm a little surprised no one has noticed this yet, but... the description on Lucca's Wondershot now says "Play time determines damage." If this turns out to actually be the case, I must say I will be most pleased.
Thirdmoon? WTF is that?
Hmm... Can we see the full text on his DS grave?

Another find:
Although a lot of people don't know this, but if you leave schala's theme playing fora long long long long time, like hours at a time, her theme desyncs in the SNES version. I've currently had the song playing for over 3 hours, and the song has not desync.
and i'm a he. :P
However, the glitch from the SNES version of CT where you can enter Giant's Claw before you talk to Toma is still in the DS version.
However, the glitch from the SNES version of CT where you can enter Giant's Claw before you talk to Toma is still in the DS version.
That was a glitch? I just assumed talking to Toma was to let you know the Rainbow Shell is there.
After the fight with Marle and her dad, the Chancellors eye twinkles with a blue star sprite.. I can't seem to find it in the event code at all in TF. So i think it's pretty new.Are you sure? Or is there some other fight?
Talked to him again, said the same thing he would say if you secretly hear him across the wall in the king's room, and walked outside the castle.I didn't even know that you could hear him across the wall. I haven't seen him reappear in the throne room in the SNES version, but he says that in the SNES version too.
No, that's not... I meant how do you confirm that the game clock effects the damage rate?
No, that's not...
No, that's not... I meant how do you confirm that the game clock effects the damage rate?
Who knows. To me, it still does random damage. But sometimes it does the same damage twice in a row, but since usually it changes every turn, then every five seconds or something.
Spekkio is no longer a god?Does this mean we're going to have to re-name your usergroup?
Oh boy, oh boy, oh boy, nom nom nom nom...IT'S CANON!
All life begins and ends with nu. This is the undeniable truth, because I believe it to be so. At least for present.
Not nearly as powerful of a statement as in the SNES translation.
Marle: Hi, Toma!
Now HE'S definitely my type!
Lucca: Aw, he's just a flake.
Marle: Probably has a dozen
girlfriends.
Lucca: Actually, I see him as more
of an intellectual!
Lucca: Or boyfriends. Come to think of it, he
never really talked about his love life...
Perhaps Ayla's tribe is matriarchal.
Imagine if they had cows to make her outfit out of...Mistress Ayla in black leather...! Whoa...where am I again? >_>
No. Ioka's chief is the strongest one of all. Ayla proved to be the strongest, so she became chief. Of course, she resigned when she ran off with Crono to help kill Lavos.
{Ayla}: Kino man.
{Ayla} die, have baby, then Kino chief.
I just figured it meant "If I die or have a baby, then Kino will be chief." It makes sense given the culture, and I think the implication is not that Kino is more fit for the job of chief than anyone else, but that since he's the lover of the current chief, he'd inherit the position if the current one was incapacitated, which would inculde either death or various motherly duties.Quote from: CTDS Script (English version){Ayla}: Kino man.

I know it's been a long time since I've been active here, but the new release is bringing a bunch of people out of the woodworks, it seems. Picked up both the game and a DS over the weekend, spent all weekend savoring it (working on the sidequests post-Crono revival now), and decided to stop in and see what was up. Found this, though, and had to weigh in with my two cents.
