Who won? Magus or Frog?
« on: December 24, 2008, 06:31:11 am »
In one of the ending, Frog challenges Magus. Eventually, a black figure appears on top of the castle. But since the sprite is tiny, I can't tell who it is.
Either of them wears a cape, though... Or maybe the game just wants to tell us one of them wins, but doesn't want to point it out?

Yeah, I think it's supposed to be ambiguous...Though I think it looks more like Frog, I think Magus would win in a fight between them, though Frog might get lucky with a well-timed Frog Squash...

Yeah, that figure seems to have a giant head. But I'm not sure.

Then again, Glenn does have the Grandleon. Can anyone attempt to hack a Glenn-VS-Magus solo in the castle to see who would win? BTW, retries are not permitted. If you lose, it's Magus.

Either could win. Although Magus has an almost godly amount of magical power on his side, Frog has determination and Cyrus's will driving him on. This is the kind of thing that can't be covered by in-game statistics.

Doesn't a Frog croak sound play after the figure appears?

I didn't hear a croak sound, but take a look for yourself and you can make the final judgment. Personally, I think it's supposed to be Frog who wins. But even though the sprite at the end resembles him a bit more, the last sound effect (at about 6:08) sounds like one of Magus's techs...but just think of the implications of a Magus victory...does it really seem like he'd win?

You also have to keep in mind at that point Magus hasn't been weakened by Lavos yet so he has FULL POWER.

Plus, the bats being there it helps assumje magus.
I took a VERY VERY VEEEEEEEEEEERY close look at it, and it's obvious with the way it's made, it's supposed to be up to you who won, but if you REALLY can't decide for yourself, the thing has spiky hair at it's ends. So either it's Magus or Glenn changed back very, very quickly and it's going by the graphics he had in the animated ending.

Perhaps Frog and Magus were given such similar clothing and human designs (well, long hair and cape look enough alike in silhouette) for just that purpose.

I don't think there is a real answer to this question. The winner is whoever you decide it is. That ending isn't cannon anyway so it makes sense to leave it up to the viewer.

Doesn't a Frog croak sound play after the figure appears?

Does it matter?

If a sound did play, as I thought did happen, then it would imply that it was Frog as a victor. It does also make sense that they wouldn't say as to build more suspense, but I still think it would have been Frog.

Yes it would matter since Magus doesn't croak like a frog.

If you think about it, a croak could also signify Frog's defeat...

I think the main reasoning supporting Frog though is the fact that Magus wouldn't celebrate his victory with a pose on the top of his own castle...he's got work to do...Glenn is the only one who would actually take something from the victory.

That is true, Magus would be too busy choreographing some new dance moves to do while he casts spells or something.
