Polling / Re: Which Chrono character do you most relate to?

Probably Lucca to an extent. I have a degree in physics and like to play with fire !

Secret of mana deserves a sequel or a remake. I know they already made a bunch of mana games but they all flopped. Seiken Densetsu 3 is a game that I consider almost as great as CT and it's a shame only Japan can play it legally.

Polling / Re: Did you ever cry while playing the games?

Not the chronos. I thought CC was depressive at some points (when you realize El-Nido is a huge experiment), but not that sad.

I never cried for video games, but I must say the latest Kingdom Hearts games almost made it. I think 358/2 days is a really, really depressive game.

Polling / Re: Should a new game+ game be harder?
« on: March 24, 2010, 06:08:32 pm »
Interesting poll ! I choose harder because it could really add to the challenge ; CT has very few difficult bosses. This is element  that made Diablo II a successful game ( the possibility to restart with your current state in a much higher difficulty). I don't see why it couldn't work with jRPGs especially when you can max your character that much.

Any party with Robo is automatically balanced.

When you first get Magus, his Magic and level are going to be higher than the party's unless you didn't avoid many battles or something...and besides Robo is the only character that has access to multiple (all) Magic elements.

In term of potential damage Luminaire and Flare totally overpower dark matter. When I had a perfect game with ** in all possible stats (that is until my cartridge began deleting saves) Luminaire's base damage was about 4000 and Dark Matter was only 2500. Flare was about 3500. I must say I was disappointed by Magus because of this. Sure, he started with more magic to balance this, but that killed a lot of his potential. The problem with the Robo, Magus and Lucca party is the lack of heal. Heal beam is a good support but lacks the effectiveness of double cure, cure wave, and all double techs that healed everyone, though I must admit that CT is an easy game that doesn't require that much healing !

For those who played CT in 95-96 like me, I have a few questions for you. I'll consider that CT is one of your all time favorite games.

1-What other games did you play back then ?
2-What other genre beside JRPGs do you like to play ?
3-Has your favorite genre changed since CT ?

I would like to know if you play different games today (Bioware, Blizzard, etc.) or if you still wander in the jRPG genre.

4-Finally, I would like to know your opinion about what Square has become today. Do you like their recent games ? Which ones ?

I'll answer my own questions.
1-Secret of Mana, FFIII (VI), Mario World and Zelda lttp.
2-WRPGs like Diablo, platformers and some action rpgs.
3-No, I still like jRPGs the most, but I tend to enjoy the snes ones more than anything.
4-I like square less than before, but I still recognize their talents. I think they want to make their games similar to movies (Kitase) with not enough emphasis on gameplay. I must admit I was quite impressed with Kingdom Hearts II. Some characters like Axel and Roxas were more interesting that the main character himself. It also had a nice soundtrack. Visiting Disney worlds with FF-like characters is a unique experience. FFXII was fun, but the story, characters and music were too weak. I have played FFXIII a bit, but not enough to express my opinion.

Magus is cool in the sense that unlike most villains who join your party, he doesn't change. You just happen to have the same goal as him at this moment. It's a kinda like Vegeta in DBZ comparatively to Piccolo who really becomes good.

Would Magus have been the same if you learned that Cyrus wasn't actually killed (just teleported in a jail) ? If Ozzie was actually forcing him to fight Guardia with mind control ? If he reverted Frog back to human ? If he became a Paladin like Cecil ?

Nah, Magus isn't that folks. He doesn't choose good or evil only what is useful depending on the situation.

However, in battle, he isn't all that cool. Dark Matter is the weakest last spell in the game if my memory is correct. No double techs, only a few triple techs. Sure, Omega Flare is the most powerful attack, but it doesn't involve a very balanced party.

I was listening to the chrono cross soundtrack and wondered : what is the main theme of Chrono ? In the song Field of Time you can hear, at ~20 seconds, the same song that plays at the end of the chrono trigger intro (after the pendulum). This is also the song that plays in the CC intro song (alternating with Another World music), The dream that time dreams. Yet you can also hear Crono's theme in Field of time. Is Crono's theme the chrono series main theme or is it that other melody in both game intros ? Or both ? Just wondering. I was really happy that Mitsuda re-used that melody in CC. It gave me chills back then.

Chrono / Gameplay Casual Discussion / Re: Want a new Chrono game?
« on: March 03, 2010, 03:18:24 am »
Has anyone bought their 3rd copy of CT:DS yet ? That's what the VP asked us fans to do. Buy more.

I wonder what is happening at Square-Enix. The cease and desist letters almost seem generic as if they hired a bunch of burocrats in California doing this specific job (searching for legal issues), independently of the Japan HQ. If this is not the case, why would Square want to protect this copyright so bad ? They showed us many time that they don't care about chrono by

1-Working on less successful series instead (like Mana). Obviously, Square is a company, and companies want to make cash. Since chrono sold more that mana, it's an illogical decision, put that way.
2-This ugly, painful and "electronic art'ish" comment of the VP
3-Wasting the chrono team on that zeppelin FFXI and XIV

A few years ago, they mentioned that reuniting the original team was hard. This is a bad excuse because for CC they haven't reunited the Dream Team. More importantly, Yasunori Mitsuda and Masato Kato were favorable to a new iteration and as we all know they are the heart of the series. What really frustrates me with these CD letters is that they don't even care about the series.

With all that said, there is still hope, but it's very slim. Someone would have to make a silent crimson echoes and release it without warning with an anonymous name.
