Kajar Laboratories / Re: Chrono Trigger - Master Quest: Introduction

What's your project, exactly?

As for the expanded scenes, the only one I've done so far is the Ocean Palace escape scene, which hints at what became of Schala during Chrono Cross. I plan to add a few more tie-ins with Cross in the finished version too.

The Lost Village was an area that appeared in the Prerelease version of CT on the Prehistory world map (there also exists some maps of the interiors of the huts in this village).

I'm not necessarily the best at making overworld and location maps however (how the tiles work confuse me).

Kajar Laboratories / Chrono Trigger - Master Quest: Introduction

Hey all, it's me again!

After deciding to cancel my previous hacking project, CT: The Radical Dream, I've went back to the drawing board for CT hacks and have something familiar yet new, on the way...

Today, I'll be showing off my newest hack that'll almost definitely get released:
Chrono Trigger - Master Quest!

Aside from making each enemy in the game slightly stronger for a more tough experience, there'll be a ton of nu changes that tie in the game with Chrono Cross a little more, as well as some surprises along the way!

A few of these surprises include:

The unused "Battle 2" and "Singing Mountain" songs are used in-game now! Where are they used? Play the hack once it's out to see!

Some cutscenes are expanded to tie in more with Chrono Cross or for other things, such as the Ocean Palace escape scene and the main ending.

Speaking of the main ending, Glenn will be always be in his human form, even if Magus is alive! (Let's just say he reverted the spell, okay?)

Some locations like the Lost Village from the CT Prerelease are included in this hack and re-imagined (No Singing Mountain or Zeal Dungeon unfortunately, unless someone knows how to make those maps playable and wouldn't mind helping me out with that).

Some color palettes (mainly Magus's blue cape and Heckran's blue color) will be altered to match their artwork counterparts a little more.

If you don't want to play a harder version of CT but still like these changes, a separate patch will be included named "Master Quest Jr." that keeps the bonus features but keeps the enemy stats the same as in vanilla CT.

That's all for now, folks! Hopefully the hack should be out near the start of 2020, or March 2020 at the latest.

P.S. I am working on another hack during this time, but that's a surprise for later...

I'm gonna have to try this out sometime! It's cool people are still enjoying the Chrono series after almost 25 years.

Kajar Laboratories / Chrono Trigger - The Radical Dream: Final Update
« on: October 27, 2019, 06:32:48 pm »
Hey all you Chrono fans out there! As you may or may not know, I was developing the ROM hack CT - The Radical Dream. Unfortunately, I have decided to pull the plug on the project.

The reasoning for this is because the project's scope has grown wider than I'd imagine it would be, and I don't really want to spend too much time on it. I am sorry if I dissapointed anyone who was anticipating this hack, but I do have some things to share in another post that I had planned for CT - The Radical Dream.

I do plan to make more CT hacks in the future, but they'll probably be on a much smaller scale. That being said, expect some news on this next hack very soon...

Maybe.

Kajar Laboratories / Chrono Trigger - The Radical Dream: Update #1
« on: October 16, 2019, 07:49:38 am »
Hey all!

If you have read my last post, I am working on the ROM hack Chrono Trigger - The Radical Dream, a new story taking place in the Radical Dreamers timeline that shows how Magus became the mysterious mage Magil.

Well, I'm happy to report everything's going smoothly and that I'd like to talk about some new things original to this hack:

The first is a brand new character named Cid (yes, his name is a FF reference), who is leading an expedition in 12000BC to study the remnants of Zeal that have been popping up around the world during this time. He'll mainly be prominent during the beginning part of the game that takes place in 12000BC. After that, he will mainly stay in the Last Village commons due to events that happen later on. For his sprite, the unused version of Melchior in a grey robe is used.

The second thing isn't a character, but a minigame: a Chrono-series quiz show! There are 3 tiers of difficulty with 5 questions each, and each tier has 3 random rewards you can earn. The prizes get better the harder the difficulty, so put your brain to the test! (Oh, and don't cheat, please?)

The third thing is about the demo. Now, I don't have a release planned but it will only stop once you have Frog/Glenn in your party, so it may be a little short.

I'm almost done now, but I would like to thank Mauron for what help she's given me with learning a little more about hacking CT. If you stumble onto this post Mauron, thanks!

Well, that's all for now. How about some more screenshots, maybe?

By the way, feel free to ask questions about the hack!

41
I most definitely will!

42
Thanks! This is the first time I've attempted something like this on a large scale; I've made smaller test hacks in the past but I probably won't release them.

43
So yeah...

If you've read the title, I am indeed working on a brand new ROM hack of Chrono Trigger. It will be based around Magus and Glenn/Frog as they attempt to uncover the unsolved mysteries of the past and save Schala once and for all...

The game will take place in the timeline of Radical Dreamers, where Magus becomes the mysterious shadow-sneaker known as Magil. The events of this hack will cover what happened during this time.

As for a release date, I do not know. I have only just started making this hack, but I can show some screenshots of what's to come. Remember I have a life too, and I'm doing this project alone. I am attempting to keep the project under wraps so a C&D doesn't happen like with Crimson Echoes.

Now, here come the screenshots!

Chrono Trigger Modification / Help with overworld tiles?
« on: October 13, 2019, 07:30:49 am »
I am attempting to create new areas on the overworlds, but I cannot seem to figure out how to make exits so they can enter the new areas and solid tiles so players can't walk straight through the new areas on the overworld.

I am sorry if this sounds confusing and doesn't make any sense, I've tried to explain it to the best extent that I can.

What I meant were how to do cutscenes, the randomized mini-dungeon and the Blackjack minigame from Crimson Echoes/Flames of Eternity (I presume?).
