Site Updates / Re: The Month That Could Have Been -- Chapter 7

So I'm wondering, are we allowed to give constructive criticism? It's great and all and I love watching those videos, but there are some things that are just weird and I'd like to comment on them.

Yeah don't worry, everyone is allowed to criticize; you shouldn't even need to ask for the permission :)

You know, despite being part of the CE "dream team", even I think there are some things that were not done in the best way possible. Originally I planned to polish everything in the game, checking every single map and every single line of coding to polish the scenes or adjust the coordinates of everything everywhere. I did that up to Chapter 11 (which will be part 30-something on CEMemorial). After that, I realized that it would take too much time to continue that way up to the final chapter (23), considering my schedule in real life, so I stopped polishing everything and just focused on a few important scenes and the ending. And even then there are things that were added to Chapters 0-11 after I polished these chapters. So feel free to comment; I wonder if you'll manage to be more picky than me ;)

Chrono / Gameplay Casual Discussion / Re: Square Enix E3 Announcement
« on: June 05, 2009, 09:24:16 pm »
Sadly that's not the first time something like this happens. Back in 2000 Square had announced FFIX, X and XI all at the same time, completely out of the blue.

No, Lavos did crash. CE Prehistory is 5 years after the Prehistory of CT.

However, the Frozen Flame flung the Dragon Tooth and the six characters around in time. Marle says several time in her videos that something is messed up in the timeline. All will be explained...in the next batch of vids in fact.

...though if you're familiar with the Greek myth of Cadmus it's somewhat already obvious why the timeline has changed.

General Discussion / Re: European Trip Memoirs

Glad it was an enriching experience!

I thought about visiting France for my next European excursion, but I've just been warned by the English that Paris is the greatest conglomeration of angry, rude people this side of the Louisiana Purchase.

Aha, that's somewhat true unfortunately. More rude than angry. Parisians have this reputation even in the rest of France, but by Parisian standards it's a normal behavior.

Antarctica

I didn't know that was even possible. Must be expensive.

Yeah, don't hesitate to speculate or comment the story. It's nice to read these posts. I just felt like commenting because ALL of ZealKnight's questions are answered directly or indirectly later in the game :)

During development there were times where we would discuss our own story and see what consequences each event had and if there were plot-holes, just like we do for the official series in the Analysis forums. It was fun.

ZealKnight, you know...it's not like this was the ending of the game. There are many things to come in later chapters. If you don't understand something now, chances are it'll be explained later.

What's amazing is how much of the music overlaid in these chapters is from Claado Shou (of Chrono Symphonic fame!), specifically for CE! I'm not sure what he had in mind for the uses, but his works really snapped into place here.

"Crimson Echoes" - Main theme of Crimson Echoes
"Sheltering Light" - Theme of **********
"Vortices and Flame" - Theme of dark **********
"Cerulean Shadows" - King Zeal's theme
"Battle 3" - Actually meant to be the regular battle theme
"Modus Dissonantiae" - Porre Agent's theme
"Chronopolis" - Theme of Chronopolis
"Moment of Truth" - Used for revelations
"Peaceless Providence" - Theme of 1 A.D.

********** is a location that didn't make it into the final iteration of the plot for various reasons. It had an awesome name though, but I'll keep it under wraps I guess.

We did have the knowledge necessary to insert music; we just hadn't got to the music remix/insertion phase yet. That was to be among the last things we do since it required heavy modification of the game's data.

Vicbear, this thing you brought up is a major aspect of King Zeal's character. He will have a lot of screentime later on, so you'll see :)

Yeah, CE has the appearance of CT but it's really the spirit of CC that animates it.

The lack of Ayla screentime in this early part of the game is because Schala was meant to take her spot as a PC.

By the way, good choice on Crono talking, he finally has some life to him!

Glad you like it :) For those who don't or who find it surprising, here are the main reasons why we made him talk:

1/ He isn't the main character of CE. The game is kind of like FFVI as there's not obvious main character. All the PCs, except Ayla, have roughly the same amount of screentime and importance in the story. So the player isn't really playing "as Crono" this time around.

2/ He is a married man. That's a pretty huge difference between CE Crono and CT Crono, and we had to make him talk to develop this part of his character.

3/ Part of the point of CE was, simply put, to say goodbye to CT and hello to CC. You can't say goodbye if you're mute.

Be careful when driving.
Either that was a dirty joke... or you don't know that I was parked. lol

Sigh, what's up with people thinking I make dirty posts? It was just a reference to this hoax of yours: http://www.chronocompendium.com/Forums/index.php/topic,7406.0.html

This looks kind of like human Glenn from CT. Or a pretty pissed off version of him anyway.
