OMG! THAT'S MEGA AWSOME! FOR A 1:30 MIN SONG, IT ROX! Reminds me somewhat of Voldemort in Harry Potter Oo

EDIT: I was just thinking, maybe in the end it should revert back to the begining theme so them it could be looped? I mean if the theme song played in the game and you were AFK or were reading really long, the song would end at a low pitch and start out fresh without a nice looping Oo. Up to you though, just my $0.02.

Thanks you guys.  :)  I'll be messing with it a bit later on so that it loops, and I'll also be attempting a few other themes for Crimson Echoes.  We'll see how they turn out as well.

Hey, uh, that kicks some serious asshole man. And I normally save such remarks for when I'm referencing myself. :P

That beginning piano sounds REALLY familiar to me...But I can't place what I'm thinking of...

Well, anyways...man, it's good, I wish it was longer!

edit: *after scaring myself silly switching to another song* does the sound seem low to anyone else, or is it just me?

I actually modeled the opening piano part after one of my all-time favorite games, Parasite Eve, which uses piano as its weapon of choice.  Also, I've switched between the song and a few others, and no...it doesn't seem soft at all.  In fact, it's a bit loud, which suits it.

I have a few updates...firstly, I'm going to divide the song into two separate songs and extend them both.

1) The first one will be a low-tempo version of the first 36 seconds functioning as the theme of Dark Calasperan, and will be greatly enhanced to create the mood of dread.

2) The second one will be evil Zeal's main theme, and will segue into a battle-like theme that plays during your verbal/magical intercourses with him.

Additionally, I have at least three other songs planned:

3) another battle theme for normal (perhaps boss) battles;

4) the theme for normal Calasperan, similar in style to Corridors of Time; and

5) the main theme for Crimson Echoes, much like Time's Scar or Chrono Trigger.

That is all.  Commence anticipation. :):D

I like it, but I do think that some parts could use a bit of improvement
I keep expecting some major climax at the end
However, music for a background during dialogue wouldn't necessary need a climax, but the second half of the song makes me expect a climax, so I like the idea of splitting it into two parts
Also, when you said like Time's Scar or Chrono Trigger, did mean in their styles, or a main theme like they? I don't think it should necessary follow the style of either Chrono Trigger or Time's Scar, but it would be awesome if it started out as a remix of Chrono Trigger, and ended as a remix of Time's Scar.. or if it started out with actual pieces of Chrono Trigger, went into a remix of it, and ended as a remix of Time's Scar and went into an actual piece of Time's Scar, if that makes any sense
For the actual middle of the song, I think it should be very chaotic, since that seems to be very common from what I've read of the plot; in CT you basically go to each time twice or thrice (hehe, thrice), and in CC you're constantly pushed into everything in a rush without knowing why; from what I've read of the CE plot, you probably go to each time at least 10 times by the end of the game, and so many things happen without explanation at first

What I meant by "in the style of Time's Scar or Chrono Trigger" is, the very dramatic, swelling, powerful, cinematic introductory piece...the kind that strikes a sense of heroism into the listener.  That's all.

As for a remix of the other two songs, I wasn't planning on it.  In fact, I think it would be very contradictory to the idea of a new game if the songs were simple rehashes of older pieces.  I like the idea of a new song, something intriguing and satisfying, introducing a new, intriguing, and satisfying game.  Makes sense to me.

Yeah, the whole chaotic thing will be used as well, in the sense that the song will switch moods rapidly to portray a journey, as you described.  But nothing TOO fancy. :)  I'm not THAT good at music.

What I meant by the remixes is just that CE is supposed to tie together CT and CC, and it'd be awesome if you tied together the mood of the plot into the theme (like, when the party gets seperated it'll get sad)

I'm really curious, how do you make these songs?

Hehe, this sounds like an interview...  So tell us more, Mr. Mitsuda!  Hmm, maybe we should do that once the whole thing gets locked down and privatized...  As we get close to releases, there could be sort of interviews or Q&A sessions where people get to ask questions to our Dream Team about the development...  8)  Like one DT member a week or something.  But anyway :o

UPDATES!!!

Here are the two, (almost) loopable themes...

- Dark Calasperan's theme ["Vortices and Flame"] - http://symphonic.herograw.com/Project%20Files/Vortices%20and%20Flame.mp3

- King Zeal's theme ["Cerulean Shadows"] - http://symphonic.herograw.com/Project%20Files/Cerulean%20Shadows.mp3

I edited the volumes as well and re-tested it...now you won't be scared to death when another song comes on.

As for Shadow_Dragon's question, I use the piano roll feature in FLStudio4 to lay out the notes, which I put in by ear.  I load the Edirol Orchestral VST in FLStudio4 and then select which instrument I want to utilize, and it's as easy as that. :)  The mechanics of the orchestra are really what take the most effort, not the music itself.

And as for Jake, I am FAAAAAAR from Mitsuda.  I don't want that label, plzkthx.  Concerning interviews, sounds like a plan.  Too bad I'm only a member of the Dream Team in regards to plot development, though. :D

If you might humor me while I play the role of anadvocate, I think your songs don't yet have a "story" to tell. They subsist on their ambience only, when what they really need is a melody that sticks in the minds of listeners and tells in the language of music those curious happenings in the game as it unfolds. My suggestion is that you sit down and brainstorm a melody, on one simple instrument without non-melody accompaniment, then weave it into what you've already got. Good melodies will make your music much stronger as you work to develop the more technically challenging aspects of musical mastery.

Well, my later songs, such as the normal Calasperan theme, will indeed depend more on melody and less on instrumentation.  However, these two themes are designed to invoke a sense of dread or background, not a sense of story.  I know exactly what you're saying, though, and believe me, such concerns will be addressed in upcoming songs.
