Making a Chrono Cross Spin-off
« on: July 27, 2012, 05:43:05 pm »
Probably shouldn't have posted the thing I said on there, so I put it here.
To get you up to speed: I was thinking about making a spin-off of the Chrono Cross game.
Full explanation here: http://www.chronocompendium.com/Forums/index.php/topic,9862.0.html[/url]
Please respond with anything.

Interesting, I'll bite. Are you thinking about making it, or making it?
Have you considered which engine to use? Will you go for an RPG or a less traditional format for the series? 2D or 3D?
Do you have a story planned or are you trying to collect your thoughts still?
I think you mentioned it's intended to be a spinoff, any chance of seeing a scene or two from CT or CC where the stories intersect with your own?

You don't have to answer every question, but it's good stuff to think about. There's a lot that goes into making a game, but being ambitious is a strong virtue. Best of luck.

Thanks for the support and wisdom, Mr. Bekkler. Yes, there will most definitely be several tie-ins to chrono cross. The entire story hasn't been solidified yet, but I have a good idea for the basic flow of it. The structure of the story will mimic the story structure of the chrono cross story line, but the actual story will be a fair bit different. For example, the six dragon fights? There will be a rendetion of that.  I won't give away any more details, to keep you all guessing. Oh, unless you know how to code pc games.

After a very brief discussion with Square Enix, the game may end up being cancelled. I'll keep you all posted.

Yeah, I'll BET the discussion was brief.      You couldn't have killed your project faster by taking a sledgehammer to your computer.

Haha, seriously, they cancel projects that don't actively seek out their attention, all you're doing by talking to them is drawing attention to your project. Be thankful that you didn't put any work into it that you have to give up.

Why not do it, then announce it, then release it, then ask if it was ok?

Why...why would you ever actively seek out the guillotine like that...

As they say, sometimes it's better to ask for forgiveness than for permission.

OK, they finally got back to me, with a couple of corrections.
1. THEY DID NOT KILL THE PROJECT.
It was cancelled due to legalities.
2. This isn't the end for Project Zero.
Keep yourself posted for other games by PZ.

Forgive me for being blunt, but you know killing and canceling a project are both the same thing. Also, that's not a good way to advertise your group. Finally, if you had done any research at all you'd know how SE handles fan projects. I'm sorry but it's true.
