Add these interviews?
« on: July 02, 2012, 08:46:36 pm »
Probably should try to get permission I guess.

These are now about a year old, but I couldn't decide whether they were news-worthy enough at the times that I found them.

During this podcast, 8-4 talked with Richard Honeywood about the technical side of game localization. In the case of Chrono Cross, he explained how they converted plain text into a form that could be easily accentized. (At about 1:28:18)

The French site Total-Manga interviewed Nobuteru Yuki, I'm guessing during the 2011 Japan Expo. This one only has a few bits about his work on Chrono cross.

Damn Vehek, I don't know how you find these things. When I get a chance, I want to record Richard Honeywood's section of that first interview, just so we have a copy on hand. I'm sure ZeaLitY would want to archive that.

Anyone wanna take a stab at translating the Yuuki interview into English?

There was a 1UP article ("The Rise of Squaresoft Localization") last year about the progression of Square's game localization which used quotes from Honeywood. Heard about it through a post on romhacking.net, and found the podcast while trying to find more information. I learned about the Slattery interview similiarly.

That French interview mentions Yasuhiko Kamata in one of the questions. I sometimes do searches on Kamata, to see what places outside of Wikipedia copies know that he was Radical Dreamers' art director.

July 10 EDIT:
While trying to find statements on FF7's translation, I found the original Honeywood interview used for the article I mentioned above.

In terms of Chrono information, I don't see much that wasn't in the podcast. They're so similar in info on the early days that I initially thought that the podcast was the basis of the article. It's mostly only by the wording of his answers that distinguishes the overlap.
