My RM2k3 project is similar to this, considering the rise of Zeal and the fate of Norstein Bekkler, but we're taking completely different paths to explain it, so, good! No spoilers.

@Kodokami: Haha the idea struck me when I was once brainstorming with other Compendiumites for a fanfiction while at the same time watching King Zeal perform Atash Kedah on Crimson Echoes (dang the videos shoulda been tagged; can't find it easily). Other sources for inspiration are as follows:

1) Bartimaeus Trilogy: Believe it or not but the books resemble CT quite much, minus the time travel. It's sorta like "what if Zeal still reigned at modern times".
2) Radical Dreamers and Jewish lores: There's quite a lot of mystery in Radical Dreamers with very little connection with CT/CC, especially the Lilith, who is also from the Jewish lores often called "Adam's first wife". Another Jewish story would be the creation of the Golems by a Rabi named Loew Bezalel. Since Dalton uses Golems, Dal-Hun's basically his grandpa. XD
3) Zeal was just too awesome for things to go "just right", and they did mention that humans warred against each other until Zeal finally won. Great Magii Wars akin to Ragnarok / Apocalypse would clearly rock the screens.
4) The Nero rumour: He played a violin while Rome burned?  :lol:
5) Dullahan: Imagine you're fighting someone who's seemingly normal until you chop his head off. Then, when you think the bloke's dead, he simply carries his head and flings a swarm of blades at ya. Scary... Also, did I mention he can ride demonic steeds and wolves? Yeah...
6) Mystics had to come from somewhere. This wasn't my idea though, it was from a some friends I brainstormed with.
7) Shikari = Alphard and Demeria. A slight note though: Apparently most who read it would think "Shikar" is a cool name, until they realize that it means "The Hunted" in Hindi. So, for Pre-Zeal I added an "i" a the end which would change the meaning to "The Hunter", thus making them a proud race of hunters and assassins until conquered.
8) Was reading up about mythical creatures, angels and demons. Ifrits are the most awesome ones to be connected with Atash Kedah.
9) The Phantom Break also needed to be explained, and is also connected with Schala's birth.
10) Shakespeare, nuff said. Dude's tragedies rock!

And others, but currently slipped my mind. XD

Meow, just ignore me.
Perhaps that's because I don't get the meaning of the names, they just look like stuff from different cultures.
